i love NJ but ever since dainel left they sound to me like new hardcore cookie cutter shit i loved them a hell of a lot more in their bless the martyr days
Oh my goodness. This is so much better than their wannabe, offbeat pussy thrash. If you can't do metal right, don't do it at all. Haha and thrice's new stuff is awesome. Their hardcore is good, but so is their soft stuff. So quit your bitching. There's plenty of great metal out there, but not a lot of good rock.
The new album is pretty beast but thier old stuff is good too. That's what I like about Norma Jean, unlike other bands, all thier stuff is equally awesome.
not a big fan of the stuff they did after oh god the aftermath, and even that was a stretch.... to me, they sound like every other screamo act now.... so sad
not making just saying this cos chino's on this album but the thing i like about norma jean is they seem to explore all possbilities wouldn't be shocked if the next album is brutal or even if they went down a similar road to thrice but atleast they haven't put out samey albums
What are you talking about? Putman sings mostly in this song. And if you like old Norma Jean pick up a copy of The Chariot. (Which is also good, btw).
Everyone needs shut their fucking mouths. Norma Jean doesn't suck now. They're still as great a band as they were when they started. You all just have a one track mind. Evolution is bad to you. So they changed their sound a bit? Big deal. Tons of bands do it. You can play the same music your whole life. If you did, it'd get boring. So if you really love Norma Jean, support them, no matter what music they make.
@neverender888 Its evolution to main stream is what i think others were talking about. Im not for it but hey. every band needs to sell out to get paid right? cuz thats what they make music for right?
@neverender888 hell yeah. like when emery put out I'm only a man, everyone was flipping shit because they weren't super emo. I was like chill- appreciate the musicality.
@neverender888 this would make more sense if the band had simply evolved, and not replaced half of its lineup. This isn't the evolution of a sound, it's the restructuring of a band. So, in essence, there is no compulsion to support the band when they make immensely poorer music because they are not the same band anymore.
@JCS1Cor517 You raise a good point. However, a band does evolve when the lineup is changed. You can't expect a band to retain their exact sound when new members join. Take AFI for example. When Jade and Hunter joined before The Art Of Drowning, they changed from straight up punk being a lot more melodic and dark. I would say Norma Jean matured more than anything. They certainly don't suck, as Meridional has proven upon it's release.
@neverender888 I disagree completely. If you don't like a band's new sound, just don't listen to them anymore. You don't have to "support a band" just because you liked their old music. I love some bands, but if they started playing country hip-hop or some garbage like that, I would completely bail on them. I don't think NJ suck now, but I can understand fans that are disappointed with the direction they have gone.
@BurningBeard22 Very true. The point I was trying to make was if bands refine their sound nowadays, people get all upset. Yet, if they made the same music their entire career, that would also make people bitch. Norma Jean realized they couldn't keep playing Botch-influenced metal all, so they mixed it up and the results were awesome. Now they're heavier than ever on Meridional. Unfortunately, some fans will be disappointed, but people start bands to make music for themselves, not others.
@neverender888 It's nothing new, dude. Bob Dylan was booed off stage when he incorporated electric guitar into his music and lost TONS of fans. People listen to particular artists because they like what they are doing. If that changes, some people will always get mad while others will like it. It's all a risk vs. reward like any decision in life. Bands should just play what they want and be passionate about it and all the rest will fall into place.
i do believe Bless the Martyr...was the best. Redeemer was great too. I dont think I'd care for this much if Corey wasnt such a great vocalist. He ties everything in together perfectly. long live the cha cha riot
yes it is metal! did you hear the second verse, its pretty heavy in my opinion, and if it wasnt metal, then you would hear it on local radio stations!
I agree and disagree at the same time. Old Norma Jean with Josh is fucking amazing, but newer stuff with Corey has it's own sound. The band in my mind has every right to do whatever it wants. They have progressed so much.
I never really got the whole selling out thing, I mean, what are they advertising? soap? Many artists experiment with different styles to reach a wider audience, I mean, that's the point, right? Getting new kids interested in w/e it is you're trying to throw across to them. If you're in a band because you just wanted to play music, then why even bother make a cd/go on tours/ so on and so on. 'They have sold out'..yo that's so old...stop bitching...
You're comment is amazing, I completely agree with you. What is the point of making art if its not gonna be put on display. The whole point of art is to get a message out there and ultimately affect the world. If you aren't constantly evolving and fine tuning your message you should just call it quits cos that message is going nowhere.

It's not Norma Jean though, unfortunately. If it was another band I would like it but this is dissappointing.
lol, same here! its kinda hard to understand him. i know the chorus starts with Yesterday, lol. This song is awesome, its kinda different for Norma Jean to do like a Melodic Metalcore song, kinda like Killswitch Engage, where they scream the verses and sing the choruses. I like it. I never really liked Norma Jean to tell you the truth. I only liked one song, which is Memphis Be Laid To Waste! Thats an awesome song. They remind me of Underoath and i dont like them.

Good song. I do miss the screaming a little, but you can understand the lyrics better now. I would really like to see them put out some songs that have a good mix of singing and screaming. (Kind of like Haste the Day)
fuck all you assholes that are hating on norma jean they are a great band and will always be so go watch those other videos instead of talking shit here
even though I absolutely love old norma jean, especially bless the martyr, I don't hate the newer lighter stuff, it's very well put together, some people just need to learn how to appreciate all music even less hardcore shit
well, first off, your name has a 666 in it, implying you are confused about who to listen to. August Burns Red and Norma Jean have STRONG religious undertones that couldn't be more obvious. If you don't like their music, it is probably because they don't suck ass like bands such as Deicide, Slayer, Job for a GayBoy, and Cannibal Corpse. and sorry guys out there, but yes, Slayer does indeed blow. You don't have to conform to liking them because other metal heads say you have to.
Well, first off, you should probably do a little research before you go bashing bands such as Slayer and Deicide as they have both played a huge part in the making of most sub genres of metal. Although I know Norma Jean are in more of a punk direction than anything, they have still through some band or another not necessarily Deicide or Slayer but other bands which have taken influence on these bands developped their sound.
everything is relative. to you, slayer sucks, to me slayer sucks, but do you think slayer sucks to slayer, or to people who grew up listening to slayer? no, and I respect that. I hate this crap new norma deftones jean. but thats my own opinion. if you like it you like it, great for you, but i miss o god the aftermath.
i KNOW Josh left, i just assumed that they'd still have screaming, fact being that they're metalcore. and this would be the first song i've listened to on the Anti-Mother, i havent had time to give the whole album a listen.
yeah i think its important to know that bands change cause they do what they want. personally i like O God the Aftermath and Redeemer, but this album is awesome too
lol actually that song is called Jaws III, People 0. I will admit it's similar but only when it comes to the name. the songs sound completely different.
i've tried my hardest to comprehend exactly what the point of this video is..it's ridiculously confusing. And fuck all thats hating on NJ..they've forever reigned epic, and forever will. VS The Anti-Mother is an awesome album, no better than the old, but it's just new. Everybody changes, everyone goes through different phases. They've just progressively stayed awesome throughout the years so piss off =/
I really like this song. The singer sounds like a more hardcore version of Dustin Kensrue, which is sick as hell. Norma Jean's older stuff wasn't as tight and confined- sounding though. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I dunno, I think they've got some possibility with the more singing direction, but I will say, the scream parts of this cd are better than the singing for the most part. He repeats the same 2/3 note melodies. When they got Chino on that one song, though, to give some real melody, the sound was pretty cool. It's good they are branching out their sound. They are original enough to have no easy comparisons.
what i like about this vocalist is he sounds unique like his own voice imo

Well, first off, you should probably do a little research before you go bashing bands such as Slayer and Deicide as they have both played a huge part in the making of most sub genres of metal. Although I know Norma Jean are in more of a punk direction than anything, they have still through some band or another not necessarily Deicide or Slayer but other bands which have taken influence on these bands developped their sound.

everything is relative. to you, slayer sucks, to me slayer sucks, but do you think slayer sucks to slayer, or to people who grew up listening to slayer? no, and I respect that. I hate this crap new norma deftones jean. but thats my own opinion. if you like it you like it, great for you, but i miss o god the aftermath.
people opinions and the internet dont mix.

DevFromParaplegiance 2 years ago
umm.. to all the other songs on the anti-mother
WeaponDrummer 2 years ago
??? where the hell have you been? Josh left a LONG time ago...(old norma jean)
darmikela 2 years ago
i KNOW Josh left, i just assumed that they'd still have screaming, fact being that they're metalcore. and this would be the first song i've listened to on the Anti-Mother, i havent had time to give the whole album a listen.

i think the reason o god and redeemer even found places as a release was because of kiss the martyr. They kinda peaked with that release.

yeah i think its important to know that bands change cause they do what they want. personally i like O God the Aftermath and Redeemer, but this album is awesome too
this video is cool. they are a great band

lol actually that song is called Jaws III, People 0. I will admit it's similar but only when it comes to the name. the songs sound completely different.

blah, blah, blah who gives a dam fuck just enjoy the music and that's it if you don't like it listen to it
no matter what Norma jean is always going to kick butt
so fuck off
laxmuerte 2 years ago
i've tried my hardest to comprehend exactly what the point of this video is..it's ridiculously confusing. And fuck all thats hating on NJ..they've forever reigned epic, and forever will. VS The Anti-Mother is an awesome album, no better than the old, but it's just new. Everybody changes, everyone goes through different phases. They've just progressively stayed awesome throughout the years so piss off =/

If you watch the making of it'll tell you. It's about how life takes you threw many doors and some are good and some are bad.

god... they sound like a bunch of pussies, i hate it when a band goes from doin alright to suckin dick for ratings and comments. FUCK NEW NORMA JEAN!
