I'm sick of hearing people talk about bullying as just something kids do. My kids don't bully but have been the subject of bullying in the past. This is NOT just something kids do, it's something they are taught to do by people around them and frankly it's insulting that there are so many who think it's 'normal'. Tell kids it's normal for them to bully and they will see it as a viable option. Teach kids accountability and maybe they will start showing others a little respect.

Knowing history isn't splitting hairs. Neither is not keeping things purposely vague to cover up a lack of knowledge of something. And once again, no mention of the people doing the harassment. It's the parents, it's the internet, never the defendants. Of course "regulation of the Internet" is a red herring. Crimes done via phone rather than in person don't stop being crimes, and neither should any done over the internet. Harassment is harassment is harassment.

It is not the internets fault. This is a viscous premeditated attack on an innocent young girl. This crazy mother who posed as a teenage boy to mess with the poor girls head. The intent was to do mental harm to the girl.

you got that right. A misdemeanor? Thats all? There are kids doing life sentences for way less than that because they have no voice. And realistically the parents just plain didnt do thier jobs as parents knowing the gal had medical issues.

It's simple really. Do we instantly ignore or disregard someone who stole someone's ID or credit card info simply because they did it over the Internet? Of course not. So why should stalking and harassment be any different? Cybercrime is still crime and it's about time government and the justice system started playing a little catch-up instead of playing favorites with the stuff done over the Internet that keeps getting all the media attention.

I agree these people should be punished to the full extent of the law. I also find it horrid this childs parents threw her into the online preditors knowing her problem with depression and the like. Its a failure of parents as well as the idiots who did this. As any good parent knows you have to protect your children, I am sorry this childs parents completely FAILED at there job as parents.
