ok I might be over pycho-analizing this but I think that Nepherite is simply remembering her kindness for a second time and is embarassed that he has received kindness from somone he hates so much, resulting in a helpless confusing state, where he is unsure of of his own feelings for her.

...Are they even aware that they're who they are? Nephrite shows some expression as if he knows it's her but this scene kinda implies he doesn't know Ami is Mercury. Same thing with Ami; she looks like she knows, but at the same time, she doesn't...

He knows who he is, and he remembers her- that's why it was so difficult for him to be a human- if you remember from his first appearance as a human, he calls them lowly and is angered that he's now one of them. In a later episode, he talks with Endymion and Endymion says he should feel lucky that he's a human now. Ami doesn't know who he is though, but the "pull" is still there :p <3 Ami/Nephrite. <3
