About your question, the people on board say that the Israelis fired a lot of bullets before landing on the ship and that people had already been shot and at least one killed when the passengers swarmed the soldiers. Israel is only showing us a small part of the footage.

1st A country has the right to board a vessel if it suspects the the crew of the vessel is planing to ram a blockade
2nd a country has the right to inspect the cargo of the vessel before it enters it's international waters
3rd if the country sent soldiers to board the vessel in according with international law and they were met with a show of fore they have the right to defend themselves

I believe the soldiers were firing at the boat before they descended, but I would bet they were firing rubber bullets. But the passengers don't know the difference, rubber bullets being fired sounds like live fire (to me, anyway). I've been to Israel /the Westbank and I've seen the IDF fire rubber bullets at Arabs with no valid reason.

But the soldiers shot them. They were rubber-coated bullets but the kids were taken away in ambulances. What I want to know is, why do these ships believe that they can sail through the Israeli blockade in the first place without having the cargo inspected? The UN may have condemmned the blockade, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. They know that, and yet they still try to get through. They have to be aware that doing so in this manner is going to aggrivate an already unstable situation. The best thing is to play by Israel's rules for now, and get the aid to Gaza without causing these clashes

Israel is directly responsible for the deaths of almost 50 members of the Irish Army on UN duty. Israel is already engaged in a campaign of starving the people of Gaza, thats akin to giving your enemy your aid to give to you. Fat chance of them doing this.
