i may sound dumb, but i think that mla style is taking away a little bit of our individualism, I don't like conventions,and i don't see why I have to format my papers that way just because people do it . i mean i didn't center my name for the cover of a research paper,and i wrote my lastname first, now I have to redoit,what's next? you are going to tell me that x=y is not the same as y=x. conventions are wrong, we don't have to do things because everyone does it that way.

I know exactly what you mean. It's the bureaucracy that's designed to keep us busy with trivial things rather than let us get deep into the concepts of modern ideas. John Taylor Gatto's book The Underground History of American Education is a shilling read. Schools were designed to teach us(the masses) how to be good (workers) for the ruling elite.
