But, DROP's are not offered for every bargaining unit. Most firefighters in the U.S make somewhere between $24-76K a year, depending, of course, on the location. If they do a full 30 years of service, they can collect 90% of their salary. Do the math, considering most FF's don't do 30 years, no one can take a beating that long.

Due to the political/private, banking, back scratching deals that went on a few years ago, you might recall the housing market tanking because of loan defaults and declining property value. Unfortunately, most municipal police and fire departmetnts are funded by taxes. So the instability you feel selling houses, equates to police and firefighter layoffs, stations closures, and character attacks on public servants. So security is NOT afforded to public safety anymore.
our FD hasn't had a cost of living raise in 8 years, yet the Mayor(democrat) can find tens of millions of dollars for each pet project... plus our pension fund is constanly being sought after by the social/democrat finance department.

In your real estate job are you up for 24 hours at a time, shift after shift, lifting heavy tools and equipment? Do you work holidays, weekends, in any climate? Have you ever cleaned up a patient's vomit or feces that they left on their bathroom floor? Run into any burning buildings lately to save a stranger's life? Maybe a ride along would help your perspective. Why don't you apply?
My brother is a firefighter... Love that he does what he does... the thing is he tells me all the time how there are 100 applicants for every position opening? As a Realtor I can tell you that the type of security he enjoys is nothing like what I get for my efforts. I work as many hours as he does. I have no insurance. I live in a home that is about equal to his and we live pretty equally. The thing is he is about 6 years from being able to "hang it up" and gets to take a second job as well...

Now my employer is asking me for more cuts and pay more into my pension and healthcare...I already pay 20% of my premiums and the insurance is less than stelar. When I retire, contrary to Kasichs lying ass...my fire pension offers me no free insurance or hi dollar pension plan. 62% an that includes nothing else..I still have to live off that an buy 100% of any healthcare I receive.

I was a soldier, and now I'm an over 50 firefighter with retirement in sight. I USED TO SAY THE SAME BULLSHIT YOU JUST SPEWED OUT. I'm a realist now. When things were stable, I ONLY voted conservative. Now I vote for who is going to help my family first, THEN my party. Our welfare ideology is the problem, not pensions.

@herbiesnerd MY wallet AND MY pension just got HAMMERED by an all Democrat-run city commission that ironically enough...our Union helped elect! The people behind that was the Florida League of Cities, that again, ironically enough....is comprised mainly of Democrat Mayors! Our overtime pay AND our DROP is gone...but guess what...I STILL stand by my statement! You wanna sell your country up the river for some coin...that's your choice! Some people are more easily bought off than others!!!!

Thanks for the support. After 30 yrs on the job and Kasich wants to raid my pension he paid nothing into. Now my employer is asking me for more cuts and pay more into my pension and healthcare...I already pay 20% of my premiums and the insurance is less than stelar. When I retire, contrary to Kasichs lying ass...my fire pension offers me no free insurance or hi dollar pension plan. 62% an that includes nothing else..I still have to live off that an buy 100% of any healthcare I receive.
