  • What a great song. When I first heard it in 1978 ( i was 20 yrs old then ). It has that Eagles sound.

  • '78, I watched Poco live in a concert hall made for symphony when this song came out. Wow, so good. Time machine

  • This songs reminds me of what it is about. The love of a place. I miss Louisiana will everything in me. The words of this tune choke me up at times. It reminds me of my youth, meeting my wife and most of all, the wonder of this incedible city.

  • reminds me of jan "82....great song and time

  • i love this song thank you

  • Good is good - and this is good. It ranks way high on my chart of favorites.

  • This entire album is great. Does anyone recall seeing the episode of Arsenio Hall's show from about '91 where he had guests from, I think, four of the great bands of the 70's on? They played an acoustic medley featuring a portion of one top hit from each member's respective group, and Poco's tune was 'Crazy Love'. That was fantastic, though I can' recall who the other guests were! If anyone has seen that segment on YT, I'd appreciate a 'heads up'. It's well worth the viewing if it's out there.

  • I love this song. When I was a kid I remember thinking they said "..on the parks and trains" 'cause I had never heard of the Pontchartrain...great song...

  • Does anyone own a Time-machine i can borrow?Miss this generation:}

  • @niwrad68 I wish I had one; I'd go back and STAY!! :D

  • This was back when music MEANT something. I was just going into high school when this came out. They don't make 'em like this anymore :(

  • God I love the south.New Orleans, Mississippi, 'Bama, Georgia, N & S Carolina. Please forgive all the other great ones I was to lazy to write.Man I miss the warmth of the South. People & climate. Great easy listening song.

  • This song brings back memories of slow skate at the skating rink. You know, when you would get so slow that both sets of skates would get locked together and both of you would bust your ass!

  • Lake Pontchartrain, New Orleans, Louisiana, the greatest place in the world. Love this song. Thanx for posting this.

  • @writer125 how are things down there since Katrina , if you know - never been there myself but want to go -

  • does anyone have the song fool's paradise, from the album " Under The Gun, cant seem to find it anywhere.

  • Why are these guys not in the hall of fame but iggy pop and patti smith are?

  • @73seabee I could not agree with you more. Poco was one of the best!

  • It's Poco, What is left to be said? One of the Greatest bands that ever was!!!!!!!!!

  • What is Pontchartrain? I never knew what that lyric was until now.

  • @Jannghi It's Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana

  • Wow, I had no idea Phil Hartman designed the album cover. Thx for putting that out there. Man, he was so talented in so may ways.

  • WHEN MUSIC MEANT SOMETHING.......

  • GOT MY FIRST SERIOUS KISS WHEN THJS SONG WAS PLAYING.

  • I was 17 when this song came out. I remember smokin pot in the woods with my friends and a cassette player with this tape in it. The woods was alive. And so were we. Such a great time back then. Thank you for the upload.

  • I had this outline tattooed on my left arm by a shipmate on board USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN69 "IKE" while on the way thru Suez to Iran during hostage crises in early 79 /heading towards "gonzo station" when asked why on left arm ,replied closest to heart .anybody familiar please leave post truly great music

  • @oldnufftoknow I get your meaning, but your heart is in the center of your chest.

  • @waspmeister Is there a need to be biological, the left has always been sentimental y referred to as closest to the heart

  • Never could understand why this song was never used to the backdrop of the Katrina disaster. It's what New Orleans is all about.

  • My favorite all-time Poco song.............

  • Some of the best lyrics the world has ever known

  • I loveeee this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great memories from 1979

  • For a moment I thought all this talk about Phil Hartman was in reference to the comedian.....glad to read otherwise.....silly me. Great song too....

  • wonderful music. Takes me back to the good ole days.

  • I love this song!!

  • Phil Hartman did design this cover, look up his profile, he was a graphic artist, he changed the spelling to one n.

  • Paul Cotton sings lead on this song!

  • I'm surprised Paul Cotton hasn't been on Dancin w the Stars

  • who sings lead on this song, Rusty Young?

  • Wow, I can remember sitting on the beach looking out at the waves and the girls walk by. Now, I sit on the beach and watch my kids play and can listen to the same cool tunes on my i-pod. It's funny how time flies, but these songs never stop making me feel young again.

  • @MultiLegoman111 Never stop thinking your young. Why be 30, when you can still be 15? Why be 60 when you can still be 30? Don't let age bring you down.

  • @NWFWMbudwieser I agree. I live in the midwest and it seems people age and they give up and think they have to act old-depressing place.

  • Agree this is a great song when today there is so much absolute crap. There is still some good stuff, tho. Try OneRepublic for some real music by a modern group. Most all of my favorites are from the 80's and 90's.

  • i don't care if people think this is an eagles rip-off. i love this song!

  • Man Oh Man ,This Is Such Good Positive Feeling Kinda Of Music,You Hardly Hear It Anymore,What A Shame...

  • What astounds me is that the current generation of music producers GREW UP on this music!! Why are they letting rock become rap, and disco become house and trance - forms with no melody, chord progression, orchestration/arrangements... No joy... no thrill of a song in itself being enough to transport you to cloud canyons in the sky...

  • Dear Danielskennedy, that is as I have verified on Wik, the most startling, unbelievable but true facts I have ever seen. I knew Phil H was a blast on SNL, did a great Bill Clinton, but never would I have suspected his talents went to drawing, and even when he must have been very young to Poco, America. Thanks for the post, again a tragic loss in so many ways. Man what a total talent.

  • Ok, says who about Phil Hartman, bring it, ....I know how old I am, and about how old he was, so if so, factO, what did he do in terms of drawing for POCO. Facts, not speculation, and also, I loved Phil H too, and I very much liked/loved Poco. Thank you.

  • @lance1jcubsfan It is a fact that Phil Hartman designed the cover of the album shown on this video, as well as seveal others, including America's Greatest Hits album.

  • @centuryrox yes, I can verify that as well. He went on Letterman one time I think and talked about doing the album cover for Poco's Legend. He also talked about having 100 impressions and they were numbered exactly. Man I miss his comedy...

  • @centuryrox i actually remember him stating that on the Tom snyder show before he died.

  • @centuryrox Hartman was a graphics artist before he did comedy, This was one of his as Lance said, E carried a cover of his bio and repeats it on occasion. He talked abouit doing the cover in an interview not long before his murder.

  • @lance1jcubsfan He drew that picture, plain and simple right? That's what he did for a living in the 70s, it's in his biography that he was a sought-after album design artist while he was one, and long before he was famous as a comedian in the 80s.

  • @lance1jcubsfan Uh, yeah, centuryfox is correct. Phil Hartman did indeed design THIS album cover, along with a few others....

  • I had no idea that the Late Phil Hartman (actor, comedian, writer) designed album covers for America and Poco. Makes me miss him even more.

  • I remember hearing this song and many others as a child back in the 70's as I listened to my little AM radio tucked beneath my pillow.

  • Phil Hartman also did the cover of 'America's-Greatest hits'

  • Looking at all of the comments posted to these great songs you can't help notice how badly the music today is broken. It capitalizes on everything negative - causing negative feelings - desensitivity. Very few possess the creativity of the classics and when they do they are brushed under the table with little or no publicity.

  • Ah! Summer 1979, 15 years old. This song and a summer night. Magic.

  • @basiacomeout 3 yrs ahead of ya and yep what you wrote

  • @basiacomeout me too!!! good call music fan

  • when music was clean and made ya feel something inside.... those days will never come again.

  • I hav always loved the band who in my mind are bigger than the Eagles. They did not get the credit they deserve...Glad youtube is giving them a new platform..Hardly any radio play in their day shows how full of shit most radio stations were...

  • @1stSaintsFan Timothy B. Scmit was singing this song and he also play the bass for the eagles...

  • @1mrgasgas1 Yes sir, I was into POCO during the Richie Furay & Jim Messina days...I was glad Timothy (Girls luv that guy and the hair) joined "The Eagles" and made some money and a couple of good songs.

  • Back when music was music! A Classic!

  • great post, but remember God wants us to "REACH FORWARD"

  • In case it hasn't been posted yet..........the cover art is by the late GREAT Phil Hartman.

  • @ronineko as in the comedian Phil Hartman?

  • @jatroup12 yep, the one and only

  • POCOの、哀愁のカントリー・ロック"Heart Of The Night"このアルバムの頃のメンバーはどうなってたかな?勿論ポール・コットンはいたヨね!

  • You have terrific taste in music! Thanks for sharing?

  • im so glad my friend reminded me of this song..what memories this brings back....god those were my party and happy days...LOVE THIS SONG!

  • .... wow... this one is for my Shannon..... love always.

  • excellent song to accompany the rain and thunder outside right now... beautiful in fact. thanks again for posting :)

  • Oh, I haven't heard this in years, thanks so much for posting.

  • I saw Poco in concert as a back up band to Creedence Clearwater in 1969. They stole the show!

  • The cover is designed by the late Phil Hartman.

  • Eagles' origins..and everything after......

  • Randy Meisner and Timothy B. Schmidt had the prettiest voices during their tenure with the Eagles, the other guys could sing pretty damn good as well, but But the Eagles definitely went scouting for guys that sang really lovely harmony, and almost a little sadness, that 'Southern California West Coast Sound'... That blued eyed-outlaw soul, their somewhat morose music was absolutely gorgeous!...

  • @lmallears1958 and JaneHibson : me too. ♥ Manitoba Canada

  • This is the kind of song that is PERFECT to danch to with your significant other alone together in the middle of a hot summer night down south with just a little candlelight or firelight and a bottle of wine.

  • Kind of gets to you.

  • now THIS is REAL music !

  • I remember parking on the top of "Lover's Lane Hill" and there really was a full moon in the Wyoming black night's sky...making out and feeling so deeply in love at the tender age of 16. Those days...looking back on them while certain songs play...tears everytime. I'm a lot older now and often long for THAT kind of love, simplicity. Love this song. Thanks for putting it on here.

    Janie

  • @JaneHibson I saw it too.. from Cheyenne.

  • The Eagles are a great band. I love Poco. Poco music helped me, and changed me over the decades from Good Feelin to Know right through Tryin'. Thanks guys, it's be a 40 year ride down this trail.

  • The LEGEND album is good too. that was like saying farewell 70s after that

  • Why POCO was never inducted into the CMA is a mystery. does anyone have the POCO FORGOTTEN TRAIL cd (1969-1974)??? Thats the one to get. a must-have. I personally like the Good feelin to know and cantamos era and also crazy eyes. those are their finest work ever with ritchie Furay. RUNNING HORSE!!!!!!!!

  • I totally agree!!

  • Americana Masterpiece! Pure Classic! Thanks again fellas for not selling this classic song out for some stupid Beer or American car commercial.

  • I went to see them in 1979 - get this - they opened for The Doobie Bros and Boston - very good concert!!!...I have always loved Poco

  • Thanks. Thanks Thanks.

  • Timeless classic! Light years ahead and above all of the noise pollution that passes as music today. I had to fire this one up tonight. There's a beautiful full moon shinin' down on me as I type.

  • the singer sounds ucannily similar to don henley

  • @crunk88 : funny you say that! Poco was the band that all country rock bands wanted to be like. Poco had great lyrics, great music and great harmonies!! When the Eagles began they aspired to be Poco, but actually went way beyond. Randy Meisner of the Eagles came from Poco (where he was replaced by Timothy B. Schmidt) and when Randy left the Eagles he was replaced by Timothy B. Schmidt as well! Great stuff! And good ear by you!!

  • I think of this song when I see a full moon.

  • I think of this song when I see a full moon.

  • "Please dont' wake me, don't shake me, if it's only, if it's only just a dream...." Oh my the memories are taking over......

  • OMG....giving me chills. I will 'replay' over and over.....

  • My fave Poco song..

  • Rushville030 and Centuryrox

I completely agree with you as well. My worst favorite Genre is Rap! It makes no sense, no poetry, no melody (Which this one has to go to), no clear ending a song like this has, vocals, etc.. I could go on and on. This is what is called "Real Music". I also call this "Mellow Mountain Music". Especially when me and my dad are out on the Balcony of his Log Home in the Mountains of Ft. Davis, Texas. Doesn't get any better than that!

  • One of the world's best slow dance songs, for sure!

  • I can't speak!...I... I love this! Thanks for sharing this.

  • This is a song of pure peace and romance. This is exactly the way life should be!

  • Poco hit #20 in Billboard, 7-21-79. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Great song, this is from my high school days, lot of talent in this group , still have a lot of their old albums, this is from the Legend album my favorite by Poco, the album cover art was done by by the late Phil Hartman from Saturday Night Live.

  • @asasweeney Ive been looking for years for one of my favorite Poco songs.. I believe it was on the Poco Seven album. "She's an Angel and she loves to spread her wings" Some body help me.

  • @reyflowers1: I think the song you talking about about is on the seven album, its called Angel, you can go to Amazon.com and type in Poco Seven and it should pull it up ,they will let you listen to part of the songs on the CD , you can even buy just this song if you want, or you can order the CD .

  • such a cool song that never gets played enough...

  • Canadian or American band guys?

  • @RFKFANTS67 American

  • exelente cuantos recuerdos me encanta

  • luv this song and luv new orleans!! :=):=)

  • POCO. One of the best bands of the 70's.

  • dont it just makes you want to leave the rat race were in and just forget everything thats on our shoulders, our troubles for the time that use to be...................................

  • It's amazing how interelated Poco, Eagles, The Byrds, and Buffalo Springfield all were.

I guess it began after the break up of Buffalo Springfield with Richie Furay and Jim Messina forming Poco with Randy Meisner, meanwhile Stephen Stills and Neil Young left to form CSNY with David Crosby of The Byrds and Graham Nash of The Hollies (Britain's top selling UK band). Then Meisner left to form Eagles. Timothy Schidt of Poco fame also joined the Eagles in '78.

  • Plus there are more loose ends with Messina joing Kenny Loggins to form Loggins & Messina. And didn't Loggins also work with Michael McDonald, of Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan fame?

Anyway, we can all thank The Byrds for their 1968 album "Sweetheart of the Rodeo", which popularized L.A. country rock. Without it, there would never have been a Poco, and Nashville country would have dominated the charts. In fact, the mastermind behind all of this was Gram Parsons.

  • Another Good one from 1978!

  • not really a Poco or Eagles kind of guy. More into New Riders of the Purple Sage.

  • Phil Hartman from SNL fame painted this cover for Poco...

    .

  • I re-discovered this gem searching for other fantastic oldies. These guys are the best @ their game and have played with industry heavy hitters for decades. A great deal of what we hear today pales in comparsion to the incredible talent of these fellas. I can only hope more youth stumble onto or are exposed to these classics and take the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the sheer quality of this music compared to what is being "generated" today. No contest.

  • @Rushville030 I couldn't agree with you more, my friend. I'm thinking that the reason that the quality of music is so low these days is because today's youth haven't discovered some of the great oldies, such as this. I know young people like to distance themselves from previous generations as a means of protest, but in doing so, they miss out on some really good music.

  • @centuryrox I was looking up some AC/DC songs & found "It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll" found out kids watched "School of Rock" ; so perhaps it depends on the medium. Bob Seger is another favourite - what a song writer; love 'Night Moves" and sure the youth of today would as well if they took the time to listen. We're the fortunate ones to have memories to take us back & allow us to savour the fantastic body of work to produced along the way. Cheers!

  • @centuryrox No or well yes I agree, but I would also add to your comment, it appears they merely wish to protest, but haven't the foggiest clue as to what for? We were all young once, but good music was good music, today, there is just not good music being produced, and upon reflection, bands like Poco and the Eagles, Eric Clapton etc seem so much more above, and there is a very good reason for that.

  • @Rushville030 So right,...all this music makes me so happy and brings a tear to my eye at the same time.

  • @Rushville030 This music is beautiful...Plain and simple....What is being playedtoday is so homogenizedthat it has no distinctive sound. I have always been a country music fan...Ilove how Poco and the Eagles blended country and rock....fantastic.....

  • Haven't heard this gem in very long while...so happy to re-discover searching for other fantastic oldies that stand the test of time. We are truly blessed to be able share and enjoy the mastery of these true great artists/musicians

They have set the bar very high...It would be hard to find comparable talent in the age of "manufactured music"

  • ARE YOU THERE HEART OF THE KNIGHT MY LORD I HOPE SO GREAT SON.

  • wen music was real Music

  • My old friend suggested to listen this band since in 1985 so I never forgot due to still in my soul until I pass way .

  • Timothy also did back up for The Doobie Bros., Steely Dan, Dan Folgelberg and a ton more. I had the pleasure of meeting him in '87 for an interview and in '77 saw him in concert in Chicago after he joined the Eagles and had that beautiful long hair...ahhhhh, what dreams are made of!

  • looks like the eye of Horus to me.. another Illuminati band

  • This song reminds me of when Katrina came in and devasted that city!It is a great song, it just brings back back bad ole memories!! I love Poco the Band!!

  • This song reminds me of when Katrina came in and devasted that city!

  • Put POCO in the RR Hall of FAME... NOW

  • i think of cool summer nights summer 1979 when hearing this. this is the kind of adult rock i like to hear. i hate the eagles and don henley.

  • @The096757

How can you hate the Eagles and Don Henley? Some of the best songs ever. I'm a Poco fan from way back along with John David Souther, Chris Hillman, Jackson Brown, etc. They are all cut from the same southern California cloth. Don't understand the hatred. Makes no sense.

  • "I love N.O." (Carollton and Tolouse Streets)

  • I saw this guys back in the late 1970's or early 1980's in York,Pa.

Good vocals and good guitar, great concert all together!!!

  • what a band - songs straight from the heart and brilliant harmonies, musicianship, got it all.

  • takes me back to a time when love was much more simple...

  • Great song,thanks.

  • my dogs name Is poco lol

  • I have always loved this song!! It is just so beautiful and so heart and soul touching!! This song takes me back to days of true happiness and innocence. I miss those days. My heart just aches for those days so much. What a time that was! Never to be forgotten! There was a magic in the air back then that you just cant feel today and that is a real shame. This song is pure magic in itself!! Missing those days but hold the memories in my heart forever!! ☺♥

  • @awesomeeras131

You are so right on. I feel exactly the same. I will be 60 next month and I miss those free days of my youth.

  • @volmeister50 you and me both bro, I long for that , peace, rest, that I use to get from music like this thank God for memeroies

  • @awesomeeras131

Our culture changed, and a lot of people think it's because our economy changed. It's gone.

  • @awesomeeras131 This is a song of pure peace and romance. This is exactly the way life should be!

  • @awesomeeras131 I do appreciate your emotion; I even empathize with what you've expressed here. I have often felt the same way...but I wonder if much of these sentiments aren't our own romanticizing of the past? But it's true, for example, kids of today are too exposed to the evils of today's world, which are largely due to the proliferation of pornography as carried by the Internet. We, as parents and educators [adults] MUST instill virtue and modesty in the hearts and minds of our youth!

  • another track that has been lost in the crack and krevices

  • I am on the phone with Poco right now and they told me to tell you 'hi'

  • @maha77 all of them? wow

  • I know Timothy B. Schmidt joined Poco after Randy Meisner left, and eventually replaced him in the Eagles.Didn't Meisner rejoin Poco for a brief period later on?

  • @sammys70 Yes he did. The original lineup, including Meisner, reunited for the 1989 album "Legacy". They toured through 1990, then as an acoustic trio of Young, Messina, and Meisner through most of 1991. At the end of 1991, Messina and Meisner left once again.

  • This is my walk in the woods summer song

  • Was Timothy B. Schmidt with Poco when this song was released?I can't remember if he was,i just know he was only with the Eagles on the Long Run album.

  • @sammys70 Schmit left Poco in the summer of 1977 to join the Eagles, the year before this album ("Legend") was released (Fall, 1978). Before joining the Eagles, he contributed vocals on Firefall's 1977 song "Just Remember I Love You". He was a member of the Eagles for "The Long Run" album, as well as the reunion album "Hell Freezes Over". In between, he contributed to Bob Seger's "Fire Lake", Boz Scaggs "Love Look What You've Done To Me", CSN "Southern Cross", and Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry"

  • @centuryrox No wonder I love this song. It was done by two musicians who became part of The Eagles. Poco was like the prequel of The Eagles, just as The Move was the prequel to Electric Light Orchestra. This same rock rhythm was similar to Eagles' songs. I knew my savant was telling me something!

  • @centuryrox

Great Music! Seger great, I've seen the Eagles several times, and Don Henley solo, great!

Boz Scaggs, especially Love Look What You've Done To Me, great song, and Poco, I Love Music.

    Best Wishes,

  • @sammys70 No. He had already left the group by the time this LP came out.
