I love Eomer in the movies. Especially in the scene, when Gandalf appears and then Eomer comes behind him and he's like "not alone". I was like "YEAH! Gandalf got an army with him". Then when Eomer screams "to the king" you know the uruk-hai are gonna get their ass kicked.
I guess saruman forgot one thing to give them in his preparations for war. Swords...check, Pikes....Check, Crossbows......check, everything is here oh shit i forgot to order them 10,000 sunglasses. fuck it they dont need em.
later that day gandalf arrives with the others.....
Saruman: i should have gotten those damn sun glasses, FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in reality the uruk-hai would have killed everyone. they were not tupid at all. a small group of horses would not stop a huge crowd of uruks. the women and children would have been a target as well
My favorite scene in the whole Trilogy. Shows what we are capable of even in the face of the greatest despair. Still gives me goosebumps every time I see this.
@TheJazzax No, he says "Forth, Eorlingas!", like I said. Read the book. Listen to the music called exactly that. But above all, dont insult someone whos trying to teach you something...
@Rikhartpt Ive read the book, and it doesnt say what Theoden said before they charged because you see it from the eyes of Aragorn who is on a wall i think?
I love this scene - it makes me so proud of the Human spirit - where lesser creatures surrender or despair - Humans fight back and make a final stand. Our capacity for bravery - our determination, it brings me to tears.
@spaceman341992 They were giving them a head start into the mountains. If you were an uruk-hai, would you go straight for the refugees or try and kill the king as he tries to charge out of the keep?
@spaceman341992 .aragorn at first asks if there is another way to escape from the caves. and sends the captain to guide and block the entry .. besides them was eowyn
so many times gandalf says comments like "look to my coming at first light on the 5th day; at dawn look to the east." as if he knows such events are predestined. if he knows such things why didn't he just get eomer and his men earlier. that way haldir wouldn't have died :'(
@heyhomes8 The whole reason they left Edoras was because Eome and his rohirim were too far away to help. The reason Gandalf left was to search for them. Given that they had to cover hundreds of miles on horses he knew it would take a long time (5 days).
@AHighPwner 5 now... looks like the Witch King, Snake Tongue, and The Mouth of Suaron got influenced with them.... no biggie... theres only 5 of em though XD
Maybe J.R.R.Tolkien was read about Siege of Szigetvár (or Battle of Szigeth) and the final charge of Croatian ban Nicholas Subich Zrinsky against Ottoman forces before he write that part of his book? ;-)
My gosh, I was terrified for them! Orcs terrify me, and to see them lose hope .... Aragorn, I swear, is probably one of the most inspirational characters ever. I love how the sun appears when Gandalf rides in - it's like he's their ray of sunshine. Whenever Gandalf comes, I can't help but think: "They're saved."
@eaglewillfly . It's not Orcs. It's Uruk'hai. they are bred to for a single purpose to destroy mankind. They are not weakened by sunlight. The Uruks even run from Amon'din to Isengard carrying Merry and Pippin.
So the Sunlight don't weaken them. Only Blind them, temporarily.
(plus.. i was merely commenting on the "heavenly" light. explaining that it was the sun.)
@yorkiedon Charging down a slope that angle isn't possible either, but it's still one of the more memorable scenes in modern cinema, in my opinion, logistics aside. =P
@JackieMagenta logistics? lol c'mon man, I just figure Gandalf has cast some type of spell to let them charge at a 70-80 degree angle, go with it! this is epic, almost as much as the Rohirrim charge in Pelennor Fields
Most awesome part of the movie. You don't realize it, but the scenes before this are so long and dark, that when they do charge down the hill, it is like heaven is raining down light. It is nearly blinding in the theatre.
@nightspeed101 Very apt, since Gandalf is not only a Maiar (sort of an angel), but was brought back to life by Eru (God) with more power. "The White Rider was upon them, and the terror of his coming filled the enemy with madness". No wonder since this is a guy who could take on Sauron himself (but is forbidden to).
At 3:59 you can see Arwen fighting on horseback next to Legolas. She is wearing pink. I only know that because Peter Jackson at first wanted her to lead the elves to Helm's Deep than changed his mind. Too bad they just didn't do it like the book and have it as 1000 more men of Rohan coming there after they unloaded all there arrows into Saurman's army.
OMG i LOVE this movie! This whole trilogy is amazing! By the way, Gandalf had been sent three days earlier to find them horsemen and bring them as reenforcement, hence the dramatic scene of the light shinning through the window.
After Aragorn, Theoden, and pretty much everyone else who was in that room charged out, who was left to defend the women and children? They basically left the caves where the women and children were hiding completely undefended. By the time Eomer & co. would actually ARRIVE to clear everyone out from the Deep, the women and children's gate would already have been breached.
