i have always riden metric bikes and then two years ago i bought an FLH 1340....and i find your review spot on ...riding it is just how you put it..not a fast bike but gobs of torque....and after all it's like you said.... it is an "ICON"...plus it has to be the number one bike for after market parts...to make it easy to make it YOUR bike....thanks for the intuitive video.......
Just an FYI guys, the video response posted by oldhogman above claims to be a Hoppe Quadzilla fairing. This fairing is not a Hoppe product, plain and simple.
I do not know if the author and narrator of this video was paid to create it or not but he very well may be the coolest sounding dude I have ever heard in my life. This video is YouTube at its best.
Thank you.
Now just tell me how I can possibly justify the high cost of glorious Road King.
Sry, poppacooter, Harley totally redesigned the oiling system on this engine for maximum cooling. Yes it runs hotter than a liquid cooled unit, but it runs just fine. The only way it will burn your legs is if you're one of those dumbassess that rides in shorts and flip-flops.
They run too hot because air box is restricted and fuel mixture have to be very lean to pass current emission laws for new bikes.fit an aftermarket filter, pipes and remap fuel injection and the motor is alot happier.
I work for Kiwi Rider Magazine and some of the other guys have and they tell me it's very good - but then I didn't have any problems with the old one.
It's waaaaay out of cornering clearance before any chassis deficiencies surface - for the way I ride, anyway.
It TURNS :) That's why 2009 model has a new frame. As Harley owners we all know the prob. Why there is no honest review I don't understand. Maybe they never ride or don't know how to ride at all
Everyone knows that Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Honda make imitation Harley's. They are good bikes but the same people that buy the rice burners are the same people that buy fake Rolex's and then brag about their japanese quartz movement. Buy a jap bike, ride it ten minutes and see the value of it dive into the abyss.
but to you othere it don't matter if a H.D or honda or what ever it all about 2 wheels enjoying the wind and freedom and enjoying othere bike and bikers with same love of riding that what really all about.
Yeah - I'm 195cm - about 5cm taller than the standard seat and handlebars are designed for - not uncomfortable - just could do with more tailbone room.
well look like he tall to me and no leg room . so sick of mine being broke down no money to fix it i ride a dresser 86FLT C C it has a fram mount faring havey bike but i like putting my legs on the hwy pegs took me long time to get use to that big havey bike but it fun whin it was runing. well thanks for you coment.
There are some things I love about a Road King, there are a few touches like quick neutral and better all around performance I like better with my Vulcan. The comfort was good on our model, it had the 96TC motor which was a blast on state and interstate roads, the bike is plenty fast; the best thing is the Harley mistique, you can't put your finger on it, but 300 miles into a big road trip on one you'll know what I'm talking about. I'm out of characters! See you on the road.
Another great review. We're riding one from Maine to California this summer. It's hard to live here in the US without having been on one at some point and time, almost a requirement. As before, post more reviews, they're great. I have a 1500 Classic that is begining to look more like "the king" every time I mod. her. That being said, the 1500 Vulcan is a nice bike in its own right. Thanks again.
Put a Mustang seat. on it ..my 2001 still is comfortable..

I own a 04 RK Custom and would change very little about it.
Ive owned several bikes of different makes and and this is one I plan to keep for a long time.
The looks, the ride, the comfort leave little to be desired. This bike feels like it was made for me..

For the record - that is all I do.
I can't help being an enthusiast.

Noone likes the RKCustoms after a year or so??? Sorry Mars...you must be on a different planet 'cause I LOVE mine.

Used RK Customs can be had cheap. No one likes them after a year or so. Get a Classic if you gotta have leather bags.
