who's hating on in the backseat? that song is incredible, I remember the first time I heard it pop on my ipod (after I just bought the album and ripped it to my comp, had the ipod on shuffle), and was like jfc what is this? was blown away became an instant favourite.
@MartyBru06, In the Backseat is far from an "inferior" song. This song is outstanding but In the Backseat is arguably the band's finest moment live. In the Backseat was created to finish every single show the band ever plays.
I saw them at the Shrine Auditorium in LA last Friday. I can't believe they chose to perform In The Backseat, Month of May, and a number of other inferior songs instead of this, which I think is the best song on The Suburbs.
The video is ok but the song is classic. It reminds me so much of the Byrds 12 string guitar work (My Back Pages from 1966), plus the guitar work by the Animals (It's my Life from 1965). This song is haunting and could have been from the folk-psychedelic times of the 60's. This is better than any drug - truly one of my top 10.
@windstarford This is more the spawn of echo and the bunnymen and the song "killing moon" and Will Sargeant's guitar sound. He's not even playing a rickenbacker.
@bigseer - We know it's not a rickenbacker (let's not get too technical).
My point is it is a throwback to the 60's Byrds's sound "My back Pages".
Yeah the killing moon (Seargent / McCulloch) guitar is classic (I've had it favourited the 1984 cut). That sound was born in the 60's (The Byrds, Searchers, Animals). I like Echo & The Bunnymen because they sound Psychedelic 60's.
I swear, the last few minutes of this song make me feel like martyring myself in a bed of flames...that can't be normal...but I guess such majesty in a song will do that to you.
I really like this song until the end.. it's so very predictable for the Arcade Fire. However, the song combines Springstein & Fleet Foxes and is one of the best ones they've written, the riff is amazing
@brainsinCan whats the actual version? i bought the album and love it! the only thing is that i wished the recording was a little bit better since im an audiophile but still love there music
I can only imagine how epic the tail end of this song sounds live. I mean, TWO sets of drums?! I'm in awe and this is only a video. This album is going to be a stunner. :D
a band that sound as good (or even better) than they do on album live. thats hard to find

I thought that sound was surely a Rickenbacker 12...but looks like it may be a Gibson ES-335/12...Hmmm?

WTF they actually performed in the backseat?? I thought they stopped doing that song!!! That makes me happy as shit.

I think this sums up an often-unappealing but truthful adolescence pulled through by the want for love, or the/an idealised memory.

While I want to be part of every second of this song performed live I am sure starting at 3:17 it would get indescribably epic.
