One other thing--on the double stop, Keith I am pretty sure is rotating between 11th (G) 10th (B), down two frets, then back up two frets, then back down two. Then he goes 11th G 10th B double stop, slides down two frets, then slides down to 7th and 5th frets like you do on the video. He rotates these. Put on headphones and listen real carefully in the beginning before the singing gets in the way. I am nearly positive, although if there are any videos of him, it may be clearer.
Excellent. I too have viewed many utube videos of this song. I like the way you tune down just the A string. Can be done quickly in a live stage setting like a dropped D tuning wihtout messing with the entire chord tuned to a G The only thing I do different is on the "Cant you hear me knockin" part, I dont do 7 to 5th fret--I'm up at G string, 11th fret, B string, 10th fret (double stop), then go down 2 frets, then 7th fret, 5th fret.
Thank-you so much!!! This is the 2nd Keith riff I've learned from you in the past week! You're a great teacher and if you're not careful you're gonna make me a guitar god!! haha I'm 50 and just started playing again after a 20 break from playing....the way you break it down is amazing. I thank you so much, sir!! (I do tune the E string when going to open G...I like to play some Foo Fighters in drop D...one less string to re-tune when I switch)
Great lesson..thanks. One of my favorite riffs, along with Van Halen's, Mean Streets, and of course so many Zep riffs. Now to teach son so he can play it for me. Peace!
@Harding42 TV Yellow is a Gibson color. Fender calls this Vintage White, basically supposed to mimic what an aged/yellowed Olympic White finish would look like. It's a USA Tele neck with a USACG body finished in nitro by Burtone Guitars in Portland, OR.
I like your style Man. Always wanted to play this song. I'm the bass player in our band but I'm going to show this to the guitar players in our gig. I hope they dig it as much as I do. Thanks man very good lesson.
hey man, this lesson is awsome!!! i always had trouble w/ this song cause i never thought the tabs sounded right (or i didnt understand them) , but now i got it down...thanks!! if u have time u should do some more stones stuff (like monkey man or bitch or somethin)...........also...i enjoyed your "see me feel me" lesson
i play this song in standard tuning, because its easier to sing to, but i have to say i tried that little "A" to "G" tuning thing and it sounds awesome, so when i get used to the riffs i might be able to play it down at the open mike night, thanx for you very patient video great detail, keep you posted on the jam night.
@791rgm I tried 3 speakers and liked the Alnico Sig 10S best with a low gain tube (12AU7 or 12AY7) in V1, but when I went back to the raging stock 12AX7 I found I preferred the beefier Eminence Ramrod. It kinda depends on what kind of breakup you're after. The Sig is a bit more raw and ragged when pushed with that higher gain tube, whereas the Ramrod holds together better (smoother).
Here's a helpful comment posted elsewhere: "The descending double-stops Keef plays by sliding down with the 3rd finger, instead of doing a pull-off from the 4th to 3rd finger. It lends a slippery, sleazier feel to the riff." Note that this will be easier to do on a Gibson-scale guitar.
Hoodrio:
Just one more question regarding the Telecaster you use in this lesson (I'm
obsessing about it!). Any suggestions on where to buy a USACG body exactly like this
one? Burtone Guitar's in Portland? Some question regarding the neck. Thanks.
Redbear42 (Jim).
PS: Thanks for the great lessons!!

@42Redbear usacustomguitarsdotcom The finsh was done by Burtone. The neck is a 2001 American Series Fender. Thanks!

Your intro is right on! I wouldn't try to explore Keith's mind either. He is quite a character and playing his music allows you to feel his cool wit.

I found your videos recently and I'm impressed. Accurate and detailed. Really helpful.
I wonder if you have a video with just the pro jr (with weber Sig 10S ) and a guitar.
