I am surprised too that there was no long good-bye. There have shows that were on for a shorter length of time that had a long good-bye (Now you see it, Trivia Trap, Time Machine, Your Number's Up). So, my only conclusion is that this show might have been on the fence when it was cancelled.
I'll tell you what. That's a great way to end the series - have the two last players be winners, Don having won the last Blitz Bonanza in the series!
