real athletes don't train on their heels its just a fact ..your foot is designed to take the force on the ball of the foot and transfer it through the leg...heel strike is why these runners get plantar and knee injuries from bad technique if u misstep doing heel strike guess whats gonna take all the force..THE KNEE...striking the ball of the foot will allow u to recover and avoid injury ...do the research....nobody in sports does heel strike i don't know who came up with this technique
Yeah, sorry don't agree with this technique either. Good upper body position, but way too hard on the landing. 'Circle movement'? For real? Not recommended for 'bigger' or injury prone athletes i.m.o.
Could very well work for lighter experienced runners though.
When I went for my first fitness evaluation a few years ago (running part involved getting on a treadmill and having my stride evaluated) doing the heel - roll - push method I noticed that when the heel strike lands the treadmill would decelerate for a fraction of a second. This lead me to believe that heel-striking can not be the proper way to run. I'd recommend people ignore this video and check out 'Born To Run' and then Google 'Vibram FiveFingers.'
I run with my head down most of the time too.. It seems to make the run go by faster for me for some reason. Maybe it is mental like the other person said, seeing how far I still have to run can demotivate me.
I always run with my head down, I get demotivated if I look at the horizon and see that it is still very far. Btw I run 5 km 4 to 5 times a week in about 30 - 35 minutes. How can I improve my time, I seem to be stuck at this time.
there is a right way to run...its called "form". When you sprint you have to drive your knees and stay on you toes. And drive your arms from and too your hip and chin/eye.
I tried running like this once and people thought I was hurt.
Which proves that their is no "right" way to run. It depends on your body composition, age, gender, etc. And most importantly it depends in what is most comfortable for you.
if you run with your heel, it's kinda like race walking in a way, if anyone knows what i mean. also, running with your heel kinda puts a brake on yourself and makes you slow down with even more effort.
but if you change your style of running to forefoot you will probably injure yourself. many distance runners run on their heels. technique is what will keep your joints from aching.
I wish they would have experts, or at the least good runners, put on this video. I was very confused when you kept on referring to "heel strike" and heel role. You should strike with the ball of your foot to minimize breaking and impact.
You should run whatever way feels best only to a certain extent.
hey, im a major soccer player and im going to try to use your tips tonight in my game but do you have any different tips for endurance say- like in a game im only able to sprint for up to 10 minutes then I'm dead, any ideas to help me out, if not sorry to bother you, i know you r not a soccer player but hey, i thought i would ask

you say "heel roll - push..." I have heard heel rolling slows you down and is ineffective

Yes, the same is true for me. I always look just 3 meters ahead of me. Seeing that I am far from the end can be quite off-putting.

That's proper form for sprinters. Knees up and landing on your toes. You shouldn't be embarrassed if you have the correct stride! :)
