@andrew49848 You need a processor to interpret the information, loads of memory to save it, and a powerful computer to even read it... Of course there is testing going on. The military and other groups have ridiculously powerful cameras but they're also huge compared to the ones we use.
I am having trouble understanding PN junctions and their practical application - I want to know if I am correct in thinking that they are like a valve which only allows electricity to flow in one direction. By doping silicon with another element to create a negative and positive region. Please could someone in the know let me know.
@RoyBolinggoing You are correct; P-N junctions are used in diodes, which only allow flow in the direction the diode is pointing. In the same respect, transistors consist of PNP and NPN junctions that act differently when the central semiconductor receives current, essentially turning that semiconductor "off" or "on". Hence transistors usage as switches in circuits.

@william69952 I don't know why, but that cracked me up.

@meriuss if a ccd can take a 111 megapixel why then has it not be used for camcoarder yet is there any testing going on?

Silicon is NOT the main element in sand...sand is Silicion DIoxide..there is twice as much oxygen as silicon.

It's a nice introduction to CCD's. I wish this program made a clear between production of the common LSI's and that of CCD's.
(I am an engineer of the CCD's.)
