I am worried about the keys as the MPK25 I have just sold was a bit to hard to press down therefore making it a bit to hard to play as a piano. Are they light to touch?
I just bought the mpk49 and was seriously disappointed with the pads.
I assume the 25 would be just the same.
There are some videos of 'fixes' but they often look to be very cheasy and cheap.
At the same time, people have also said that the pads are the same as on the MPC line of Akai products. It's apparently their norm. But I was disappointed. They honestly don't feel like pads to me, they feel like touch sensitive buttons, because you have to really press into them.
That being said I haven't returned my MPK49. I very much like it. The control bank buddy was talking about for the sliders and knobs work great, the keys feel nice. The Arpeggiator and 'Latch' functions work nicely. And the pads aren't sensitive, but they have lots of options.
I think I would have bought a Novation Impulse if there was a local dealer that carried them.
It breaks my heart to see there's no controller with motorized faders.. or is there??? if not, what are my options??? AND, how would u compare the keys to, say, Yamaha or Korg..???
@djruinerdotcom Yeah exactly. I've owned a real piano for over 16 years and it's keys aren't silent. There's no such thing as a quiet piano or keyboard. Every instrument in the world makes some sort of noise lol
@ryguy09264 drivers are contained within the computer, it doesn't produce any sounds itself and you can use it with most any audio software you can think of, as long as it has midi capabilities
would it be crazy to sell my fantom x6 to get one of these?? i want to get a macbook pro too. So this and a macbook is a good trade for the fantom x6???? what do you think?? also can this sample external sounds/music???
Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong
can i plug this keyboard in midi into my akai beat machine the xr20 and hear it in the beat machine so i can just loop through my machine?? if not what keyboard can i do that with?? i got all my drum patterns stuck in my beat machine i need a keyboard to finish the beats off
Question: I am a vocalist who wants to further his piano skills, but that would also like to get into music production. I am looking for possibly an 88 or 76 hammer action keys controller, 800 us dollars max. I am undecided bet. this MPK 88 and the Casio Privia px330. Basical looking for something thats on the starter end of professional in which I can practice playing in and maybe get inspired by and make some tracks. I'm leaning towards this Akai but the weight and keys complaints hold me back
I'm using the mpk88 and the truth I have some problems. In just four months knobs are failing, the values go up and down randomly with no reason. The aftertouch is very hard to play!. Keys should be pressed hard to sound and this affects the overall speed ...not what I thought. I don't recommend this keyboard.
This is just a controller right? I mean I can't actually play it without a computer?'cause I've seen it in a store and I like the way it feels under my fingers, but I need somethig to play with and without my computer...
@nomecaloguevo how many midi outs duz it have? and how can control more than one sound module wit it? and if i get that wud my mpc be needed? please gimme a holla back sorry for the long ass comment
Is this just a MIDI keyboard or does it come with audio presets? and does this just work with ableton? Also, can you load different sounds onto the pads??
@OllieTheWiseOne You can use it with any DAW. I think it even has a pre loaded preset pre installed for cubase... However if you're planning to buy and use it on FL studio - you're gonna have one heck of a time setting it up!
you wont care about a bit of mechanical noise when playing in any normal situation, most live music venues are relatively noisy in one way or another. my keystation pro is said to be noisy but i dont think about it when i'm concentrating on the sound from my speakers. mpk88 looks like it will be the market leader for weighted keys.
Yes, you guys seem to have a lot of good gear you demo, but very few in English. Honestly, I'm not really complaining, tho - just even including captions would be great. Thanks for posting!
@topgun9491 How is it....Because I'm planning to buy one on Wednesday. I just sold my 25 key Novation SL MK II because I needed a 88 key for piano lessons, so I was fixated on copping this one because all of the other ones were either crappy or they didn't have the feature set like the mpk. (Studiologic, CME, M-audio)
@topgun9491 How do you like the keys compared to other digital pianos or real pianos? Are they realistic in the hammer-action? I am choosing between this, Fatar vmk-188 plus or CME UF80, what I heard so far is that Fatar have the best keys but Akai have more controller possibilities.
@M3sslah i think the best thing is what you can do is to go in a shop who have the mpk and try this. its better then you buy this for ~700€ and you don't like that ;)
@KingUDERZO I actually bought the Fatar VMK 188 plus and I just love it, I doubt the Akai will beat it when it comes to the keys. And since it is alot cheaper than the Akai I can just buy a Novation Remote SL Zero and get really nice knobs and sliders. Fatars main business is to do high-end masterkeyboards, something they have done a long time so I tested that and a CME UF80 and even if the CME felt pretty damn good the Fatar was better, it followed your fingers nice and felt close to a grand.
Pads feel great, but response-wise a little disappointing. But with a little modification it should work flawlessy. The hammer-action has a slightly heavier resistance when compared to the horugel grand piano that I have. Akai just replaced my M-Audio Keystation Pro 88! It improves on every problem I've ever had on the Keystation.
M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 problems:
-Pressed board bottom.
-Feels cheap
-Velocity sensors break (playing any note way too loud)
-No Aftertouch
-Pitch bend wheel feels stiff so you can't use it
-No drum pads
Thank you Akai!
