First of all great job!!! Interesting this is the third different way I've seen that bending sounding part played. This video shows him sliding it back and forth, another guys I saw doing it by bending and still another guy I saw used the whammy bar to the the sound. Anyone know how Eddie did it? (the part at :20 etc)
Believe it or not this version is played better than Edward would have played it live, period. Edward live, much more often than not, would botch his own tunes. This is as close to the original recording as imaginable; look at the time clock (!), feel the notes, listen to the intonation, etc.. Wonderful, absolutely fucking wonderful~!
Seems like you feel the rythym more playing with the slide technique than using the whammy - sounds lot less stiff than many of the other versions. I learned classical on 12 & 24 string acoustic first so I do the same thing, faster hand work but nicer control. Great job.
Thanks guys! I'm glad to hear that people are in agreement with me about this song. It's a shame there's not a live version of this floating around.
The guitar is an ESP ltd H-100 that I spray painted O.D. green. It's just a backup guitar. My baby is my 89 Les Paul studio.
I play a lot of metal on guitar. Bands like Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, Killswitch etc. Bass on the other hand, I tend to be more versatile and I seem to enjoy it a little more. I know I've had more work as a bassist! LOL
IMHO, this is the best version of Drop Dead Legs I've seen on youtube. Great Job man! Love the fact that it's guitar only. Thanks hybrid. Like robertsjohn said, INSPIRING!
A lot of Van Halen fans here on youtube seem to be in agreement that "Drop Dead Legs" is one of the best VH songs ever. Makes you wonder why Van Halen never bothered with it live? That said, hybrid4crx has done a great cover - Cheers!!
for the love of god i am begging you to tab this song out, you seem to play it spot on and i really want to learn it but cant find a good tab. excellent job by the way
thanks dude

I remember in the mid 80's-90's I learned most of SRV stuff and I did all of it without a whammy
Then I watched tons of videos of him playing LIVE and he's using whammy bars on tons of the stuff I thought he was just bending strings
