The political system called democracy is based on concentrating the power in the hans of it's people, roughly speaking. Communism is, in fact, an economic theory, but it supposes democracy in order to work (at least in a marxist view).

@jave042 What he meant is that the communist filosophy is the only true democratic filosophy. We do not have, in our current modern world, a true democracy (note that regular elections is only one aspect of democracy).
Our western "democracies" have only but one aspect of true democracy, but you have to admit that the is not in the hands of the people, rather it's in the hands of the few that possess wealth.
In that sense, Cuba is far more democratic than the usa, ou brazil (i'm brazilian)

Communism is an economic theory, democracy is a political system. They are two very different ideals. Communism does not work in practice. Orwell's {Animal Farm} lays it all out very simple: Marx's vision of an egalitarian utopia is unattainable. Creating a government more oppressive than the Bourgeoisie it vilifies. Cuba is a bad example.

But I have to disagree with you about communism being a totally different thing, when compared to democracy. The political system called democracy is based on concentrating the power in the hans of it's people, roughly speaking. Communism is, in fact, an economic theory, but it supposes democracy in order to work (at least in a marxist view).

Democracy, as it is easily proved, does not work in a capitalist society, because the power is never really in the hands of the people, rather in the hands of "the owners of the money". I read "Animal farm", and it does not comply with communist ideals, rather than it is an allegory of the russian revolution.

About Cuba, the fact that the Health system there is better than the one offered in the US for it's people is proof that some democratic aspects are more respected there. The educational system could be another example. Of course, the economic embargo imposed by the US distorts everything, nevertheless these aspects are important enough to make my point.
