This song was used for two scenes -- the Empty Diamond Crevasse, obviously for Michel/Klan, and the other scene was for Sheryl/Alto in episode 6, when Sheryl thought she would be leaving Frontier and Alto soon.

They really gave Sheryl the harder and more emotional songs... Ranka's just seems so cutish to me while Sheryl's stuff had a lot more depth.. and by that regard May'N has a lot more depth in her voice compared to Megumi... and you can really see it with this song

u should check the macross frontier final in budokan and see if u still think the same way. Megumi was chosen to play the Ranka character, so in the series she has to sound like a teenager. But the concerts are much more mature luckily. Dont forget May'n has somewhat more experience even tho they are the same age. The Sheryl char is just like what mayn is.

Actually I think there's a pretty big difference. In fact I think she sounds BETTER live, especially in this performance! Now don't get me wrong, I love the studio version and I've probably listened to it a hundred million times, but I think she conveys the emotions better live. It really highlights the fact that she's got great stage presence in my opinion.

You and aersiul have a point here, Macross songs have always been heart touching, just remember Ai Oboete Imasuka. However other anime do have great songs which also are heart touching: just remember Thanatos from The End of Evangelion.

Honestly, this perfomance is probably not as "refined" as the studio versions, but it certainly is more "real", more honestly charged with emotion, it only gets better when May'n sings "ima go kotae hoshii" (around min 3:10)...she seems to get more comfotable and performs with more confidence

It is like "We are here to listen to your song". Shouting or standing up is good, but only in rock concert. But again, this is just my opinion.
