I just bought the new turbosmart plumb back Kompact series. Said it was for mazdaspeed 3's but it didn't fit! Gonna have to buy a new house or a different bov :( hopefully they give me free replacement.
@lujoebonjo The current series Mazdaspeed required a different valve from the previous one, you might have bought an incorrect valve. Take it back to your dealer and have it replaced. See the turbosmartonline website - model specific bov or the kompact series section. See which bov will fit your car.
@Turbosmart66 It is a first gen MS3. The problem is the large tube isn't at a 90 degree angle like the stock one. Not sure if it is adjustable from the inside. do u know?
My Dual Port Bov just seized up on me. It doesn't open at all. I even tried to take it off and tried to move piston by hand, but no luck. I even tried to bang on piston with the handle of screwdriver and it didn't move a bit. Any suggestion how to make it work again?
@donightwolfdo Hey, this is really a question for the Turbosmart tech support. Your best best is to post it on the Turbosmart website or call TurbosmartUSA directly on 909-476-2570
@donightwolfdo youtube doesn't allow posting email addresses - but you can get the sales email address from the turbosmart website. Also - try the Turbosmart technical forum.
I dont know why people spend like $350 on the dual port blow valves for these cars I have a 09 speed3 and YES Turbo smart is probably the best valve out there but I just got the Turbo smart Bpv and it sounds awsome! no tuneing no nothing Full recirculation is the best way to go with these motors with only light bolt ons. Why pay more to mess up your fuel trims and have to run full recirc anyways???
The Plumb Back (recirculating) valve is indeed a better option for a mildly tuned street car. If, however, you intend to race your car weekends, with a higher boost level, the Dual Port will vent more volume under load. It's simply a matter of a right product for the right application.
I have both high and low boost springs for my Bpv right now I am running the low boost spring at stock psi numbers. I have an intake and catback with cat test pipe so far untuned and its running great.
Yes at high rpm there is some black smoke, I didn't realy pay attention to it early on but its deff doing it now but my car is also been untuned fully bolted for about 8 months now.
I definitely agree! I just bought a 09 MS3 a couple weeks ago, and have been dying for a BOV; once I found out about this dual-port BOV, I had to have it! I'll be purchasing one soon, keep this video up! :D
i must of been drinking when i wrote that comment lol. anyways it wont hurt your car, but with my tmic, cold air in vta the car would pop and shift like crap. u could also hear some slight compressor surge but it was fast and my turbo still holds strong today. but with my fmic setup the runs better in 50/50, my thoughts are b/c of the large amount of pipes its too much to run full recirc, the car would almost stall out and backfired almost all the time
ive been using mine for 4months now and im running it in recirc. normal drivers like me, the car will run and drive better in recirc. im also running it with my cobb fmic.
why do you have the BOV in recirculate? I thought the point of a BOV is so the excess air is dumped out not back in. down the line, wouldn't that hurt you engine?
I was wondering what the purpose of the air circulating into the atmosphere or intake or even both? What are the advantages and disadvantages of all three of these options. I just ordered one and was wondering which way to use. I do not want to hurt my car so whatever the safest way possible is i would like to do as well as know what the other options do for me.
Venting to atmosphere moves more air quicker, so it's better for racing/spirited applications. It is also louder. The plumb-back (recirculating) option is better for normal street driving and considerably quieter. The hybrid option gives you the best of both, venting first to the recirculating port then into atmosphere as the boost increases.
correct me if i'm wrong but, also for cars equipped with maf sensors, if you don't recirculate you run richer. the ecu i set to read x amount of air coming it, so it knows to give x amount of fuel. without that set amount of air(running completely atmospheric) you'll run rich, and slow the car down.
the only type of bov i've seen work well on cars that require recirculation, (if you want to run completely atmospheric) is a pull type bov like hks, or ones with an anti-stall adapter.
It's a Dual Port, so it's a hybrid type valve, it acts as a recirculating valve at low boost and atmospheric under full load. You can convert it to a recirculating valve simply by replacing the trumpet with a blanking plug that comes with it.
Hi, im away to buy a used 1 of these for my 2008 mazda 3 mps. My only fear is how to set it up for that exact car as i dont know what it came off of. I see you turned the blue bit to make an adjustment, the thing is how do i know how far to turn it and in which direction ? Many thanks and keep up the great vids
The unit should come with instructions on a CD. Failing that you can download the instructions for this particular BOV from the turbosmartonline website. The instructions explain in details how to set it up. It's an easy process:)
The BOV itself does not give you any performance gains, but it allows you to increase the boost above the factory level. It's also fully adjustable and can be converted to either bypass, atmo or hybrid. The factory bov is a bypass-only, non-adjustable plastic unit which will, at best, only handle the standard boost pressure.
We make a special oil for this purpose, it's called "Multi-Spray", you should be able to get it from any Turbosmart Dealer in your area. Failing that, use Sewing Machine Oil.
turbosmart, where can i get one of those dual port bov? and will it fit on my speed6 platform? (basicly same engine) SO your bov will goto the atmosphere and it recirculates?
A BOV is a component of a turbo system, so fitting it into a naturally-aspirated engine would be pointless. Just like with any other turbo system component like a wastegate, boost controller, you do need a turbo on your car first.
The BOV by itself will not give you more horsepower. What is will do, however, is improve the response time, and allow for boost increases, which the factory bov won't handle. It's the boost increase - which can be achieved with a simple boost controller - that gives you the extra hp.
is the replacement gasket ESSENTIAL to use?
atruthinalie 1 year ago
@atruthinalie probably not but if they give you it why not use the new one
HxCpoppunkCAAB 1 year ago
Turning the cap changes the spring tension NOT the noise the valve makes. It is used to tune the valve to your engine.
Turbosmart66 1 year ago
what does turning it either the soft or hard direction do?
which one gives more noise and what the purpose?

I got my bov figured out. The bottom part (where the 2 bolts are) was adjustable. The new kompact plumb back bov sounds great!

So if installing on a bone stock CX7 (with no tune) itd be better off to get a BPV rather than a BOV to prevent fluttering of the engine?
ferrarimk13 2 years ago
@ferrarimk13 on a car with no tune and no plans for increasing boost a BPV (Plumb Back) version is the best option.

wow..that looks easy to install

all so do with the Mass Air Flow meter. this car and mant others backfire like crazy if u have it in 100% vta. this bpv/bov is 50/50%

now, after you installed it, did you have to plumb it, or is it just plug and play? please let me know because i want to buy one!

5 min to install then your good to go. Just twist the little adjuster knob to fine tune any stalling or backfiring.
