The point to make in this situation is that although these "fast and furious imports" are fast at the strip or at the track, they will never be fast at the strip AND the track. You have to build them with one purpose in mind, where as the Z06 is a high performance track, strip, and street car. It's also pretty comfortable as well.
some cas like the ZR1 or the R35 GT-R... are factory built to perform at acceleration in straight lines as well as the track (as shown in nurburgring)
and some of the cars built for the drift track for instance... can range from 100bhp - 1000bhp... and obviously on a straight line 1000bhp is a monster!
@eeiko321 Yes but there is a lot more to the car than just having the HP. Suspension set up is the most obvious and biggest obstacle. The suspension for a drift and drag car are very VERY different. Not to mention the fact that these cars although insanely fast also sacrifice driveability in the process. there arent too many 1000HP cars that are driving around due to the amount of maintenance and fuel costs.

u do know that when they are saying "overhead cam" it doesn't mean that there is no cam in block right? the cams on the heads have a COMPLETELY independant purpose from the camshaft used to drive the crank..they're used to open and close valves whereas OHV designs use pushrods to actuate them..they each have their pros and cons..and if you think it's ancient..that's an ignorant statement..pushrod designs came out some nearly 50 years AFTER your cammed heads did..

The Z06 has almost all of that torque available from about 2,000 rpm on up if I'm not mistaken (as demonstrated by Top Gear's demonstration of 0 to ~180mph in a C6Z06 without shifting - starting out in 5th gear!). To generate the same power a 3.5L engine has to spin about 2X as fast - it's all about gasoline flow. BTW, tuners easily make over 1,000 hp by turbocharging or supercharging Corvette engines.

Yes that's true, i agree totally with your saying. As I own a 1995 Impala SS and have tested my car from 0 to to rev limiter Top speed and all I can say is that i always lose some secs when putting the pedal to the metal at starting point (lots of wheel spinning. Although the impala SS doesn't compare to the Corvette I pretty much like my SS

Corvettes are the best cars every created. For 30,000 you can get a 3 year-old Z06.I'd like to see you find a viper or lambo,or any bad ass car for that price. For chevy to make the vette affordable is a huge accomplishment.

The Z06 has a confirmed recorded track time of 11.7 on stock tires in the 1/4 and a record of 7.42 at the nurburgring. and that the C5 Z06 what's going to be Europes answer to the New Zr1 ? You got to love competition.

Z06's Nissan rival is R34 Vspec 2 Nur which put out nearly 350hp through custom spec turbo and cams is geared shorter and is several hundred pounds lighter therefore MUCH faster than this GTR could possibly be with said mods,bottom line sure Z06 can take Nissans lesser GTRs but it cant take on its "EQUAL" even though its nearly 250hp short ov Z

that was a chipped skyline R34 twin turbo VS C5 Zo6 W/intake system only!! and the race was for 400m!!, skyline has the AWD+twin turbos but still couldnt keep up in a quarter mile with a slightly moded(relatively) vette!! cheers american muscles ^^

and last but not least if it werent for cars like the skyline vette would have never stepped up its game,remember ur avg vette only barely got into sub 14s when R32 appeared with mid 13s,and that it was the skyline that broke Porsches long standing record at Nurburgring(a stock skyline shattered the record when modded vettes couldnt)was said by many car enthusiast and racers worlD wide to be best handling car EVER!

plus GT-R is baseline performance skyline(gt and gts are considered luxury cars in japan not really sports cars)vs Z06,though GTRs are WAY faster at track and can corner circles around vette.that was a 300hp car vs a 500+hp car. Try stepping up to it equivalant the Vspec NUR and well see how it goes when skyline is only about 100hp short

Doesnt it surprise u that most pro race teams(domestic) use same aftermarket motors regarless of what car make supossedly is,yet any JGTC car uses same 3.0,3.2,2.6,3.5etc block as came from factory? Its becus those domestic blocks are known to be weak when really pushed hard.

also with this...so the C6R does not use a chevy small block engine? but uses the same engine as an S7R?..how about you refer to some north american touring cars cars instead of custom built one off funny cars..since you're talking japanese touring cars.. and yes the C6R uses the same block as the Z06..and those cars have been found EXTREMELY reliable in endurance races

thats why NSX owned ZO6 at Nurburgring right?And as far as V8 being best if ur referring to Domestic blocks ur poorly mistaken they feature very poor cylinder head designs on top of still using that archaic central cammed design(very unreliable if pushed to high RPMs for any real extent of time)

u do know that when they are saying "overhead cam" it doesn't mean that there is no cam in block right? the cams on the heads have a COMPLETELY independant purpose from the camshaft used to drive the crank..they're used to open and close valves whereas OHV designs use pushrods to actuate them..they each have their pros and cons..and if you think it's ancient..that's an ignorant statement..pushrod designs came out some nearly 50 years AFTER your cammed heads did..

You obviously can't see. The skyline lost. The vette's tail lights are the same size. On a skyline, the outer lights are bigger than the inner lights. Pause the vid at 0.04 secs.
BTW I'm a skyline fan so don't think I'm defending the vette but the skyline lost.

Absolutely, positively the Corvette won in this video. The only way you are going to get a Skyline to sound like the first car is to put a V8 in it. Also if you stop the video and look at the second cars tail lights you can plainly see that it is not a Corvette of any year.
