Wow, the action looks very smooth on this gun. Between my Henry .44 and my uncles 336c, the Henry is smoother, but man I would love to check this out.
Hi hickok45 love the vids keep them up. I just brought a 336ss in 30.30 and was wondering which sights do you prefer between the skinner and the XS its a tought choice but im leaning more towards the skinner express in stainless ?
P.S. i think the 40/70 made it to next gun on the list lol
This looks like a beautiful gun to own! I wish I could find one, I settled for the GBL instead, which is the same gun but not in stainless. You should check it out, the GBL hold 6 in the tube. I have a video of mine if you're interested in seeing it.
Hickok.45 I just bought a Marlin 45/70 in a 20 inch blued barrel. I appreciate your video's in helping make my selection. I couldn't be more happy! Thank you sir.
LOL With all the soda you shoot it's no wonder the range is so nice and green and saves you having to hose the garden. i need to set up a range over my vege patch looks like a fun way to water the garden
I really do want to meet and just have a conversation with the people who disliked this video. I know they would be so fundamentally different from me that it would be a conversation I wouldn't forget.
what a neat little rifle :D i love 45-70 i have shot with marlins but it had a longer barrel than this rifle and with a really hot load! for wildboar hunting but as i said neat gun and a very good video
thanks hickok45 i learn more and more about guns for every time i look at your videos keep that lead flying :)
Hey hickock what a bunch of good vídeos you've done, it's a real shame here at my country we can't own decent fire arms...keep going.... hello from mexico.
Funny is that you can forget how many inches there are in a yard, whereas with metric system, it's quite easy to 'remember'... Sad thing for me now is that I have now idea how long 34 inches are (and I'm too lazy to look it up). So to make a long story short: adopt the metric system, USA! Pwetty please? :-)
That's a BEAST! I have a custom 1895 cut down to guide gun length (18" I think), peep sights, John Wayne lever and full length mag but that thing is SWEET. Mostly blast Hornady LeveRevolution's out of it.
Peep sights would be a nice addition on that monster. Perfect for wabbit hunting.
BTW.... I think you broke that turkey's frickin neck. LOL
Just a question: How is it possible to get a powerfull spring mechanism in that magazine if the bullets reach the very end of it. If you use powerfull spring the last 1 or 2 bullets are very hard to load? And if you use a weak spring the gun may jam due to magazine feeding problems? Im not trying to diss you here im just interested and you seem to know alot about rifles.
"Laminate Tree"! hahaha That's funny. Laminate is a fancy way of saying Pretty Plywood. I have a few rifles with laminate stocks. Seems like they'd be cheaper...but...who knows... Very impressed with the 45-70-450 cartridge. Wish I had something to fire them. Great videos.
I just bought the 1895gbl guide gun today at the gunshow. Large loop, extended magazine, blued, brown laminated stock. I've been after one of these ever since I watched hickock45 shoot the ported barrel 45-70 last year. I sold my AK to get it and am very excited to pick it up on Thursday. Thanks Hickock for introducing me to the 45-70! Life is good.
Hickok45, you are one of the best gun video people on YouTube. It's a lot of fun to watch you blast all those different targets with whatever gun you're reviewing. Your videos are pretty long, like Nutnfancy's, but unlike him you have a very soothing, pleasant manner instead of a panicked, vexing one. You've always got lots of things to say about your guns, but none of it is filler. Bless you, and your cinematographer too.
@305ssmonte Because of governments narrow mindedness. They see in movies that sawn of shotguns are depicted as evil and lethal, therefore they make them more difficult to conceal. In reality, I'd rather be getting shot at by a small shotgun opposed to a small 45-70.
push ya? lol them hornadays i was shooting in my 1895ss told me i need a decelerator pad, hard polymer aint much of a recoil pad. I love that rifle though, it my "Zombie sniper" and occasional elk gun.
ive been looking at the marlin 1895 gbl as a hunting rifle recently.. my main concern is it seems over kill for deer but if I piss off a bear i cant have a round big enough
@Mikelauder2009, Sorry, you need to "get lost." We don't tolerate bigotry of any kind here on this channel, or any thinly veiled attempts to start some up. You'll need to go practice racism elsewhere.

Ok. I have to have this gun! I am now on the hunt for this gun. I love your channel Hickok45. I am a 45-70 man. I own and use the guide gun. I love what that round can do with "reasonable recoil" as you so effectively demonstrated. Thanks.
Man I had a nice Marlin chambered for .35 remington that i traded a family member for a colt SAA .22lr but i debate whether or not it was a good trade or not.. It was my grandfather's gun and for sentimental purpose my mother wanted it but the SAA was my great grandfathers so I guess it's a good deal.
Another great video.!...Thanks. I see a lot of Marlin lever guns on Bush Planes up in Alaska. They are considered a good size and caliber for a Survival Rifle. One of my favorite (don't own one) is custom built by wildwestguns. A neat little take down package for portable travel. In .457 WW magnum/ 45-70 and .50 Alaskan (both wildcat cartridges). Ouch..!

@fomogo Thanks! I got a sbl yesterday and it´s sweet. The accuracy isn´t so good as i ecpected with ghostring so there will be a scope on it soon. Probobly me aiming bad but i have been hunting for 17 years and never had problems before. when i aiming for a couple of seconds it´s going bad but when i do it quick just up and shot it makes perfect results. But does it take a couple of rounds to go smooth or what? I´m from Sweden so my english isn´t very good so have patience with me.;)
Great video! I'm thinking of buying a 1895, though im curious about the recoil difference between a short and a longer barrel, say 18½" and 22". Also curious about the effect of a ported versus non-ported barrel.
can somebody tell me why they switched from lever action to bolt action? From what ive seen lever action is quite a bit faster for the average shooter.
Wow, the action looks very smooth on this gun. Between my Henry .44 and my uncles 336c, the Henry is smoother, but man I would love to check this out.

I am the unfortunate owner of an 1873 Springfield Trapdoor that had its barrel lopped off to 16 5/8". So I might have you beat, Hickok.

@Subarublue1
The SBL has the XS Sights lever rail with ghost ring sights and instead of the 16.25" barrel, it has an 18.5" barrel.
It also holds one more round in the magazine.
I have the STP, my wife has the SBL.

@Subarublue1
With the ghost ring you have the large rear aperture, and it isnt as precision accurate as a scope or a smaller peep rear sight.
It is for fast first shots on moving or dangerous game.
It should shoot great with a scope.

Nice little brush gun and great video, Mr. Hickok! Have you ever fired one the "Mare's Leg" lever-action handguns such as made by Henry or Rossi?

Great video! I'm thinking of buying a 1895, though im curious about the recoil difference between a short and a longer barrel, say 18½" and 22". Also curious about the effect of a ported versus non-ported barrel.
Greetings from sweden!

can somebody tell me why they switched from lever action to bolt action? From what ive seen lever action is quite a bit faster for the average shooter.

Once you said you were 6"8. You got completely bigger in the screen. I assumed you were 5'9".

I would put a ghost ring on it because it would basically double your sighting radius!
