Wow this actually isn't bad at all. This is the closest I've found to true poetry within rap/hiphop so far. Anybody got any other reccomendations? I'm down to check out some more hiphop, I just want it to be on the really out there artistic side. The more the better.
@itsmedude1020 also dig deeper back into the golden age, when poetry was the focus of hip-hop. Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Boogie Down Productions, Eric B. & Rakim...
imo it doesn't have much to do with existentialism. Like a lot of Eyedea's stuff, it echos the thoughts of the situationist international. It's saying the poverty of life is caused by the rat race, not that it's subjective whether life is miserable.
i'm covering this topic in philosophy by comparing our lives to the myth of sisyphus, we are doing nothing but rolling a rock up and down a hill. this can be a depressing idea but to it all depends on if you give meaning to it. as long as what you do has meaning to you then you can see the brighter side. r.i.p micheal, you revolutionized hip hop.
@ssdd191 Doing some Existentialism based on Camus? I did some of that last semester. We also saw Heideggar and Sartre. Fun class, mads depressing at times.
@owingawat It's not about dropping out of society and being a bum, it is about doing what is true to your heart regardless of what you can make from it monetarily.
mhmmmmmmm puppet . you guys know joe rogens a comidian he actually lightend up my day one time he was hilarious hes got a thing about eat the sandwidge how we were just put here to do it /pot activist / pride fighter hes ight
@Villian619 well if you get in the media and the mainstream, what usually happens is that the singers start to slip from their unique individuality. if you want an example, look at slug from atmosphere. lol.
@illlluck Just because you cant appreciate the growth of a musician doesn' mean slugs lost his indivduality. When you've been in the game as long as he has you get bored of doing the same thing over and over again. Listen to his work in Felt, He still freestyles like a beast, and I'm pretty sure he did a couple shows with face candy recently.
@yaoifanboykitty ha yeah. and hes always been an emotional rapper and the new album was really awsome i thought.. most people think its shit but its a great album
what you guys dont think about is what makes this special is keepin it off the radio cuz only the real know this and go to the shows an the real will be passed to our kids id be pissed if some asshole was bumpin this an couldnt understand the meaning
eyedea is simply too fucking awesome for some cheap radio station to be playing his philosophy. let the idiots that think drake is lyrically talented waste their time on raunchy raps instead of intellectual hip hop
so i said "you dont accomplish nothing sittin in the street, an im sure you probably barley survive off you pennys you gather." he said "to your surprise i make enought to eat, and i accomplish jus as much as you only i stop pretending my job matters," he looked me in my eyes an tole me i was a puppet and what i do is no more important than beatin a bucket.. FUCKING GENIUS! thanks for your wisdom, love n peace
wow.... "so i took in what was said but i didnt accept it well maybe i did i mean i just wouldnt admit it i was too committed to the belief that all the hard work now would prove my future existed somehow" too bad when you put out intellectual music, the masses and herds are incapable or unwilling to embrace it...
Fuck Damn Shitsticks. Are we really comparing artistic expression and creations to others trying to say one is better than the other?! These songs aren't fucking inanimate objects. You try comparing them and grading them off of each other and you'll start to lack the ability to see each individual piece for what it is. they're all completely different things. Let it fucking be, enjoy it, get what you can out of it, and if you can't get anything out of it then move on.
@davesababe Hmmmmm.....thought provoking words my friend...much truth lies within them as well. Thank you good sir haha. I love reading the comments on Eyedea's songs, there's def a few gems in them.
@jcassidia1423 Ahaha now I feel kind of dumb for my opening line being 'Fuck Damn Shitsticks.' Hahaha. My apologies about the anger I let loose there.
@davesababe Ha sorry for being annoying, now I feel the need to clarify my point now haha. Even though words themselves are inanimate, when painted together they create something so intangible and so unique that the thought of trying to hold one up to another and judge it just seems pointless and detrimental to the piece itself. Eyedea was who he was and there's a limitless amount of unique beauty behind them everything, so why compare them and throw out their unique potential as an individual?
Macklemore and Sadistik are both better in my opinion. Don't come to me bitching about it either. Check them out and i guarantee you'll have 2 new great artists to listen to.
@xmagicshep1 if you're really 29 its time to grow the fuck up man, going to different songs of eyedea's posting comments about how you dont like his music.. then get over it and shut your fucking mouth you whiny little bitch. shame intelligent people like eyedea have do die early and your dumb ass is still around spreading nonsense..hows about you go play a nice game of hide and go drown yourself...
@xmagicshep1 you gotta be joking? Would both of those dudes you named come up with...."I've trudged through the sediment in search of the rhythm, Dove soul first to bathe nude in its abyss, Paid dues and made music my religion, Now I listen, close my eyes, and forget I even exist"....highly doubt it
@xmagicshep1 I dont think there's anything wrong with recomending new artists to look into, but you coulda worded it better, something like "if you like this Eyedea guy's lyrical prowess why not check out TsimFuckis and wesley willis they're just as good, better in my opinion" Im gonna look into them. Why not? haha
This really reminds me of "Birth of a Fish" for some reason. I guess it's kind of the "you were the same as the bucket player all along" type of thought.
Can Jay-Z, Kanye, Lil Wayne and Drake honestly listen to this and consider themselves better? lol, wish these guys could be bumping in the radio so the future generation had people like Oliver to look up to, world would be a better place.
the only reason they have sale stats is because most people are blinded by money and power. people listen to lazy music is a lazy way. they buy expensive shit in a robotic way.
we live in a culture of fear and consumption. the govt keeps us afraid of terrorists and criminals (thats all the news reports) and we buy shit we dont need. we DO need eyedea and other works of philosophical importance
@Terrorizzzm You have a lot to learn about hip-hop if you think the rappers who make lots of money are better than real artists who spit true hip-hop. Mainstream Country, Rap, Pop, and Rock have all merged in to one genre that sounds exactly the same. There's no creativity, no heart, no passion, just repetitive lyrics and the same overproduced beats over and over. I honestly feel sorry for people who listen to crap like drake and kanye.
@Terrorizzzm o well my fault. Yea i should of picked up on the sarcasm. ha. You'd be suprised though dude. I mean otherwise why would those artists you mentioned be that popular. People are attracted to the lifestyle of being rich, even if it comes from selling out. Anyways yea i should of known that someone who was into that stuff wouldn't have clicked on this video in the first place.
Macklemore and Sadistik are both better in my opinion. Don't come to me bitching about it either. Check them out and i guarantee you'll have 2 new great artists to listen to.
@theblackmanOyeah i hate now that eyedea is dead everyone hates on people for not calling him the best. At least you know how to be objective about it. I think eyedea is one of the best for sure though.
@futureslugger not that i dont agree that eyedea's better than those guys i hate when people think everything in mainstream is garbage. Jay-z is actually a great rapper and kanye is hit and miss. also eminems first three albums where all great. Common, Nas, biggie, tupac, and mos def all have amazing music. Its great to see real hip hop fans but dont be blind. Take good music where ever you can find it. no prejudice
@futureslugger I really don't like his style. but Drake legitimately has good taste when it comes to music. He grew up in a family full of musicians and they learned him pretty well.
These musicians have one thing in common, they pick good & expensive beats (which they shouldn't be credited be for) that their record companies pay for. & then they ride the beat pretty well. However, they are not good rappers! It isn't written anywhere as thoughtfully as Eyedea's pieces. And it's the writing and rapping that the rappers should be credited for. Their songs may sound better as complete pieces, but 90% of that is the producer's job.
@futureslugger thos artists dont even have to acknowledge Eyedea because there mainstream assholes making millions but this is real art in its purest form, there heads are probably so far up their asses they probably cant even relate to what Mikes talking about. All Jay Z, Kanye and Lil Wayne care about is their egos, bitches, and money.
@n0sjared Straight up. I always said I didn't like rap until recently. I'm huge into metal and shit but I like everything I find artistic really. I just found Eyedea tonight, and I think I like rap now. Blame Wayne, Kanye, and JayZ for making me hate rap.
