YAY!!! Pune, haha. Miss Pune, no dabbawallas here in Philadelphia unfortunately, hehe. :) Just got the 2009 civic Lx-s, a couple of days ago, its pretty nice !
you should explain what the video is about in the beginning. im still not sure what dabbawalas is. people send lunch boxes to eachother? why dont they make their own lunch boxes
Not good? What do you mean not good? Because an organization like the dabbawallas can outshine and outclass everyone in the entire world when it comes to operating efficiency and customer satisfaction? Is it because they're from India and developing nations are not supposed to surpass developed ones? Like said before, these guys maintain six sigma. This means that their error rate is so low (1 in about 6 million) that if you had to give a realistic example of what perfect is, this would be it.
An interesting fact about them is that they have been operating at 6 sigma levels for decades ... this means less than 3 errors per MILLION deliveries ... a quality level that multinational corporations like GE are struggling to attain! Also their ID/coding systems are patented & they use cycles combined with public transport to achieve these fabulous results.Their reputation actually won them an invite to Prince Charlse's wedding to Camilla!
one thing the guy missed out is that the food is made at ordinary homes, each housewife gets up early in the morn and prepares food and later the dabbawallas collect and distribute. The dabbawallas delivery is so precise and methodical that they do not misplace a single tiffin or delay its delivery. Despite travel some 20 odd km and in heavy mumbai traffic they have a scary level of precision and if i remember correctly a top B school method and have done a case study on them.
Here is a video with a storyline a theme and a documetary approach ready to inform and centered on a very specific indian occupation, perhaps this job is specific to Mumbai even.
genius system
unbeliveble that it works so reliable
