  • I have tried watching this movie like 10 times, I pass out everytime. The camera and fx are incredible. I think it has to be hard to make a movie from this simple story that they have to portrait

  • Also, "Awesometacular" MUST become an official word now!

  • In my mind, 300's just a good, mindless fun movie with great action and Gerard Butler giving a performance that's so over-the-top that he's absolutely awesome to watch!

  • we'll fight in the shade...bitch ._.

  • i always thought the movie was a depiction of how all the soldiers visualized the story the spartan leader with one eye was telling them

  • The year was 480 BC.

  • 300 is...PORN FOR WOMEN!! and awesometacular.

  • @nuponen I know. Gerard's abs. DAMN.

  • Jeremy it actually wasn't against spartan law what Leonidas did, that's why there were only 300 of them, he only took his personal guard, that way he wasn't breaking any laws

  • Well leonidas brings 6000 soldiers, then he tells them to flee. Leaving 300 soldiers. Im not sure if that was in the movie (it's been a while since I saw it) but that actually happened.

  • @MrJinglemilk Nope you're wrong, 300 spartans plus about 700 thespians. Before you respond feel free to take a greek history class, or just google it

  • @spiros11386 All the greek history I learn is from my textbook I don't need classes. Oh well my history textbook must be full of lies. But is this correct "Leonidas had only brought 6000 - 7000 soldiers to stop nearly 180,000 persians. To save his army he ordered most of his troops to escape. He prepared to fight with his remaining soldiers about 300 spartans. In the end all the spartans were killed, and the persians could now advance to Athens."

  • @MrJinglemilk No dude I'm sorry, don't know what kinda textbooks you got, but that's 100% wrong. I'm Greek, I been schooled in this subject like you wouldn't believe. The only reason Leonidas was able to go to war without causing a shitstorm in Sparta was because he only took as many soldiers as he was allowed as his personal guard, thus 300. Invest in some better history books dude, sorry you're so misinformed

  • @spiros11386 Ah, people say when news spreads details get mixed up. But you're greek I doubt you have wrong information. Thanks for correcting me. textbook I have is "History alive! The ancient world" Tci. I'll invest on better textbooks, or I could just get you to teach me haha...

  • @MrJinglemilk Dude stop being an asshole, there's not a history book in the world that supports what ur saying, save whatever the fuck it is u been reading. You wanna stick to your story go for it, I don't give a shit, this debate has gone on too long. Go on and be ignorant and misinformed. And don't you fucking ever sarcastically laugh at me again you fuckstain

  • @spiros11386 Geez, I wasn't being an asshole sorry if I affended you. And I was being honest about the "you teaching me" thing. Why would I laugh at you? I just thought since your greek and you have a better education on Greek history and the thermoplyae war maybe you could tutor me. But if thats how you want to be then we can end the conversation here.

  • @spiros11386 Woah now, calm your jets. You just responded harshly to a guy who was being completely polite with you. I think you should apologize.

  • @MrJinglemilk There were only 300 spartans, but there were a few thousand other soldiers from random city states (most of which fled on the 2nd day because of them being flanked) after the retreat 300 spartans remained, 700 thespians, 400 thebians and a few hundred other random soldiers stayed behind.

  • i saw this movie like a year after it came out and i dont know if it was kuz it was super hyped, but i thought it fell a bit short...its a good movie but people go crazy for it...

  • This is one of the greatest war movies ever.

  • Haha,he has a perfect Xerxes voice(2:02)

  • It was an amazing movie!

  • The funny thing for me was that the real life event was even more awesome. The spartans only sent 300 because it was also the time of their "olympic games", and they thought that those were more important than the persians marching down on them, and that 300 warriors should be enough to take care of those wimps. And they were. lol

  • @OccamKant False, they were 300 because Sparta would not go to war and as king Leonidas was allowed a personal guard of 300 warriors, so he took them and went to war

  • THIS IS SPARTA!!!! what the fucks wrong with this dummies voice??? sounds like he slobbering

  • Jeremy review Apocalypto

  • I just have seen it and OMG ! I have to buy it right now so I can see it again and again ! It's just ... Waouh ! I love a lot Gerard Butler in this movie (even if I didn't recognize him at all at the beginning >.>) and Michael Fassbender . They are amazing ! And the all movie is just marvellous ! Now, I see the Battle of Thermopylae in a all different way... more badass I think ^^. Oh... I was about to forget one more thing : I am a girl ;) !

  • @JeremyJahns you DO know this is not just a graphic novel, but it's based on real events, right? Xerxes and the Persian army where fought bravely by Leonidas and 300 Spartans in Thermopylae, until Ephialtes betrayed them.

I mean of course some concepts (like the awesome killing, the monsters and the look of Xerxes) where exagerated from the novel but still... It's not just mythology, it's based on actual events.

  • this movie gets cooler when you realize it's based on real event..

  • @JJchoy1593 o knw rite

  • Xerxes = Sex Rex.

  • Girl here - absolutely loved the movie. :D So did my sisters.

  • Don't believe Jeremy!

It's not just a guy movie! I know plenty of guys who hate it and plenty of girls who love it. And no - it's not the abs... only.

I think it's a movie for people who understand the storytelling aesthetics of comics, and who realise that this is a mythological retelling of an event - not something trying to be "historically accurate" (see "Troy"). Note that the events are retold in the voice of one that took part in the fight, trying to install courage in new recruits.

  • I effing LOVED 300 and I'm a girl.

  • "300" a guy movie?

I don't understand how women didn't enjoy seeing at least +50 visible adonis-like Spartans beating the shit out of all those Persians.

  • Well, a lot of grown men walking around partially naked with hobo beard, not gay at all.

  • Gladiator (2000) needs a review from JeremyJahns.

  • I have it and it's BLOODY HELL!!!!!!!!

  • DIPLOMACY!!!!

  • My girlfriend enjoyed this movie.

  • For the 500th film, do 500 Days of Summer

  • For your 2,001 video review 2001: A Space Odyssey

  • I feel as though the "awesometacular" rating has been sullied. Sure it's a decent enough movie, but it's also relentlessly and annoyingly overhyped. And it has been since it came out.

Decent (not fantastic) movie + several years of annoying hype + near porn levels of male skin + one of the better rifftrax = Eh, it's fine. Definitely not deserving of the same rating as Skryim or The Dark Knight.

  • my favorite movie of all time. People shouldn't doubt a movie cause of simplicity. Jaws is simple.

  • You should do a review of Watchmen! :D

  • i hate this movie, being a Persian and liking this is hard! it was released at a wrong time.

  • I'm a woman and I LOVE THIS!

  • that is my exact point! Thank you Jeremy! It's like watching a moving graphic novel! LOVE IT! :)

  • you know its a guy movie when you feel like killing someone when the movie is over in glory of honor, and then go home to make mad sex to your partner

  • Totally agree with you Jeremy. Have you checked out (Prequel)Spartacus Gods of the arena, (Initial show) Blood and sand, and now (Sequel)Vengeance?

  • My grandma liked this movie

  • i thought it was overrated.

  • put simply, this movie kicks ass

  • Meet the Spartans was a piece of dogshit

  • You make the best impressions!! :))

  • Kratos is Xerxes boyfriend, both are butthurt fags.

  • holy shit michael fassbender!!!!!! did not realize that lol

  • A lot of people complain about this movie being historically innacurate. But it's probably best if we view the movie as what it is, fantasy extremely loosely based on historical events. If this were historically accurate you'd have tons of other greeks present and there wouldn't be millions of persians. You would also see Persia burning Athens to the ground. The Spartans would also be shown as what they were: sneaky, murdering, bisexual pedohphiles.

  • lol yah i watched it. it was like right when it came out tho in theatres so i was like 11 years old

  • DO A REVIEW OF SINNERS AND SAINTS

  • Watched 4 times already. It's right below Lord of the rings. I know there are maybe better movies that 300 but when I watched it- just wow, amazed.

I cried at that "few stood up against many." scene (I'm a girl so I can do that without feeling like a wuss)

Bonus points for bunch of hot guys running around in speedos.

  • Bought it on BlueRay awhile back on a black friday deal. LOVE THIS MOVIE. Great review

  • i loved this movie!!!!!! well i can say tht bout every zack snyder movie (Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, Legend of the Guardians, Sucker Punch) btw u gotta review Watchmen :)

  • @MrNemesis3000 You might want to take out Sucker Punch.

  • @verkpunk u hav your opinions, i hav mine. i honestly thought sucker punch was the best movie of 2011. before u contradict me remember i'm just expressing my opinion and i'm aware or yours:)

  • @verkpunk Why is it you did not like Sucker Punch?

  • Oh yeah, I heard that NIN.

  • this movie sucked

  • you shouldreview chronicle.. oh yea its an awesome movie

  • @10000dippy he did

  • Comment removed

  • the movie 300 was and still is a awsome movie. But what would b relly cool is if they made a show on the book The Gates of Fire. The book is about the battle of Thermopily and the years leading up to it really awsome book.

  • Just a bunch of guys fighting in speedoes to me. I might have to see it again though.

  • The reason the Ephors would not allow the army to march wasn't because of Diplomacy. It was time for a religious festival called The Carnea.

  • insanely unrealistic

  • This movie was awesome. Just watched it

  • Fight Club?

  • politicians now are pretty much how they were back then

  • the persians y'know they die

  • @SykotekDude im like persian and every thing and..um i see this movie like being racist and every thing. XD

  • @JeremyJahns Your Xerxes and Golum Voices are Awesome.

  • There's nothing gay about admiring another man's abs.

  • THIS IS SPARTA!!!

  • just like white people did with black people???????

  • Hey Jeremy if you ever want to see a prescreening in Seattle hit me I might be able to hook you up.

  • 300 is a fucking awesometacular movie. When will you do Act of Valor and did you get a prescreening of that shit in seattle? My mom was able to get me prescreening tickets awesometacular

  • the top comments are gay

  • I've... only seen that popular line, 'This is Sparta! [Insert Kick SFX]' and the ending. That's it.

  • That amazing moment when a top comment is a reply to another top comment...

  • i'm a (young) woman. I loved this movie. Hell yeah.

  • hey Jeremy....Michael fassbender was in this movie....>.< :D

  • @JeremyJahns were you joking on saying "the intelligent people of sparta"?

  • @JeremyJahns

    Fassbender totally rules!

And I have liked him since Band of Brothers (where he merely played the unimportant role of Christensen).

Funny coincidence: Tom Hardy (who is also well-known today for roles like Bane in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises) also played a rather unimportant, rarely seen character in Band of Brothers.. :P

  • Love the movie, saw it when it came out in threaters.

  • probably the best thing i find about 'we will fight in the shade' line is that it actually happened historically.

  • watched this film when i was young, around 12 and i didnt think much of it, mostly because i did not understand the backing story behind why they could not go to war etc. but now, after studying ancient greece for gcse history i understand the film and it makes it a million times better if you undertstand some of the small things. underrated movie

  • @TheFaMouZGB underrated movie? everyone loves it and it's made $456 000 000 worldwide lol

  • review Sin City

  • 2:00 THAT WAS SO FUCKING HILARIOUS

  • Robair9911 sucks. 300 was awesomtacular

  • not one drop of blood hits the ground during 300, great stuff tho

  • what does OH SNAP mean???

  • It was okay

  • @MrMrCub What this guy said.... It was very much style over substance.

  • this. is. SPARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It was AWESOME.

  • I'm a girl.

    I own this flick :)

  • @TwazzerCanon right! :)

  • Best FUCKING MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!

  • I actually loved this movie. The artistry was phenomenal. And yes, who can seriously pass up Michael Fassbender and Gerard Butler in the same movie?

Though I did find it funny that Spartans were so heterosexually macho in it. Historically Spartan soldiers were primarily homosexual because they were off at war for so long. Often they had to be forced to marry women when they returned in order to carry on the country's legacy.

Yay for weird historical facts you probably didn't want to know ;p

  • @LadyBr0wncoat see i told my mom that i can learn new things by reading youtube comments.

  • this movie sucked. dialogue was sooooooooooooooo shit

  • @robair9911 WHAT THE FUCK NO!

  • THIS IS Awesumtacular

  • Far out you nailed that Xerxes voice.

  • Real Spartans actually wore armor. Instead we get half naked men running around in capes. Still a great movie, though.

  • Hey, hey hey don't insult Xerxes.

  • Doctore dies surprisingly easily. That was a reference to Spartacus blood and sand btw. Also Xerxes was actually an average looking guy, he didn't have a huge amount of weird piercings, he wasn't huge, he didn't have a super deep voice, he wasn't effeminate, and he wasn't black. Just saying, I know it is supposed to be showing off how he thinks he is a God and stuff. PS My sister loves this movie so not JUST a guy movie.

  • I saw 300 and it felt weird because I'm from Persian ancestry lol

  • its a wierd movie but i would say its not terrible

  • Spartan Men > Spartan Women > Persian Soldiers

  • @Fubukio Spartan Men>Spartan Women>Spartan Babies> Persian Soldiers ;)

  • @124Callum124 Spartan Men>Spartan Babies>Spartan Women>Persian Soldiers LAWL

  • @124Callum124 Spartan Men > Spartan Women > Spartan Slaves > Spartan Animals > Persian Soldiers

  • @124Callum124 Spartan Men > Spartan Women > Spartan Babies > Spartan Fetuses > Persian Soiders

  • @swe3rset Spartan Men> Spartan Women> Spartan Babies> Spartan Fetuses> the Guardians of Ga'Hoole> Rorshach> the black guy from Dawn of the Dead> the bad guy from Sucker Punch> General Zod> Persian Soldiers

  • And no it wasn't sexist -- in the very beginning Leonitus lets his wife speak to the messenger with disrespect because he said in Sparta our women our strong..they took bride in their women so lighten up =P

  • AS A WOMAN this movie was indeed AWESOMETACULAR ... like what u didnt expect to see boobs or something? This movie has what 2 sex scenes in it?so what? the movie was about a small army of men throwing their lives on the line for something they stood for, same as alot of war movies except in this way they were severely out numbered which made for a better cause for the story, dont like it? dont watch it! but get over urselves

  • Yes, this movie isn't historically accurate but who gives two shits. The movie is entertaining and worth owning. That's enough for me.

  • I wouldn't have called it awesometacular. I'd have called it godly.

  • @hajlender12 Relax? Hes just letting people who dont know how movie is mostly fiction. Personally, i find this movie a little offensive as it has tarnished the persian image. Stick to the fuckin truth, if u wanna make a fictional movie, dont base it on a true story, is obviously going to anger people.

  • @65Nuttah Damn, you sure are mad over this.

  • @Drovedestroyer lemme put this another way. The movie was great, but as long as people know its mostly fiction, then it's all good.

  • @65Nuttah Fair enough.

  • 300 is one of my top 10 fav movies of all time next to gladiator and i don't give a shit about historical accuracy this movies is awesome in so many levels

  • I love the people who get angry cause it's painting the Persians unfavorably or it's not historically accurate. Like, that's why you watch a movie dude, to get unbiased historical accuracy. Oh wait...

  • I'm a woman and I raved for weeks about the awesomeness of 300, love the storytelling and the stylized look! Pure epic-ness and entertainment.

  • I'm a girl and I loved this movie

  • You hated Wolfman?...But you think 300 is good? Alright, I have to do some justice here. This movie was crap. It's seriously no better than the Transformers franchise (And P.S: That sucks too) The acting is awful, the script sounds like it was written by Michael Bay. The whole movie is a mindless, souless orgy of swords, spears, blood and violence. How typical that you loved it. And yes, I am a big fan of the REAL Spartans (And no, they did not wear thongs or fight deformed monsters) fuck this.

  • @MovieDoctorful This was meant to be a violence filled movie, not serious, no historically accurate, just a movie to see people get killed.

  • @TheCrayzeeMan

That's what I said about "Pirahna 3d" that it was meant to be stupid and making un of itself, but nobody listened to me about that. And this movie was also extremely racist and sexist.

  • @MovieDoctorful 1. How was it racist? 2. How was it sexist?

  • @TheCrayzeeMan

Racist~The only black people in this movie are the villains and in reality, Persians weren't even black. Sexist~In spartan society, women actually had rights unlike othger greek city states. Here, there pretty much onl;y here because Snyder likes boobs (No offense Snyder. Watchmen was a great movie)

  • @MovieDoctorful Again, you're taking the movie to seriously. And women had rights? You need to work on your history a bit.

And face it, who doesn't like boobs?

  • @TheCrayzeeMan

I didn't say they were equal citizens. In Sparta, as in most of the ancient world, they were second class. But they WERE allowed to leave their homes (Unlike in Athens, Corinth and other city states) and they did go to school. And yes, I like boobs, but putting women in a movie for that soul purpose is downright derogatory.

  • this movie was bad ass if your a guy and you dont like this movie......you might want to check inside your pants one more time.

  • I wash Michael Fassbender would've had time to do the Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man because that's the actor they chose first.

  • DIPLOMACY!!!!!!!!

  • Best film ever.

  • My characters name in Skyrim is, you guessed it... Leonidas.... Boo-yah.

  • 300 was a gay movie that insulted me as a Persian and everybody else....

  • @alishojaeddin No it wasn't. But, you're gay.... That's an insult.

  • @alishojaeddin Nobody cares this is America and it's just a film get over it.

  • 300 was and is the an unintentional gay movie... maybe its the gayest movie of all time.

  • @mrfwest "300 was and is the an unintentional-" Grammar fails are gay. Your argument is invalid.

  • you do the xerxes voice perfectly

  • I'm literally just going to watch 300 to see Michael Fassbender kick ass while being half naked :)

  • And that's how Leonidas became the President Of The Universe.

  • xerxes = sharpie eyebrows man!!!!! LOL

  • haha thanks for pointing out Michael Fassbander. He's the shit, isn't he? And yah, for a girl, I thought the movie was visually awesometacular (I have it on Blu-ray too), but my common sense also tells me that I can only like it for the glitz and not for the accuracy. I like that it made a statement despite how biased and inaccurate it was. So badass with Michael YES! Graphic novel style YES! Racist against Persians NO

  • Did he ever review Band of Brothers?

  • As pure popcorn entertainment, I had no fun in this movie. The pacing dragged (I almost fell asleep a few times), the bloodshed wasn't even as great as anticipated, and I found it to be a lazy attempt. You can have movies that don't take itself too seriously, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be unenjoyable.

  • I think the movie is supposed to feel as a legend. And legends tend to change over the course of time, making it a little* overdone.

    *= a lot
