I think, the buddy who comment on my vid is very confuse. The video showed not only China, but so-called Americans sitting on their ass ...watching TV.

Maybe I can offer some clarification:
The video is illustrating how this event occurred in China while we were living our lives - practically oblivious to what was going on. Even further, maybe we watched the news reports of what happened on TV. It won't affect us the same because we weren't directly involved.
This is a great song because Waters made something complex, confusing, and painful easy to understand with simple, but powerful lyrics.

I am done arguing with you on youtube. Maybe you speak 7 languages, but i doubt it. This is a great song, i have seen Roger Waters 3 times, and he is amazing. I have traveled quite a bit in North and South America, and I got nothing but love from the Latin American's as an American (perhaps its because we Americans tend to be good tippers compared to most others :). Never really saw this hatred i hear about online so much. Have you ever traveled to the US?

These heroes should not be forgotten.
Since china may be the major military and political power in the next century, Any push towards transparency and accountability in governance is huge!
For the song itself though, lyrically it lost focus in the last half, dragged down by a misguided focus on making a concept album, perhaps if there had been a more democratic process in writing the lyrics it would have been a great song instead of just a good song :)

Refers to the Chinese Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 -- this was famous for the video of that student standing fast in front of a column of Chinese Red Army Main battle tanks. Thousands were killed, including, Waters tells us, a young girl, a student of philosophy, in a yellow dress. I am proud of them. Lovely, lovely song.
