Has Ebay Gone Too Far? Is This The Last Straw?

I really hate the ebay fees. The best way to get rid of them is using a program called ZNZ. Every referral you get twenty dollars. It's a good way to get rid of fees and maybe make some extra money on the side.

Just stated selling and I got an invoice from ebay saying I owe them $68. WTF?! I knew there was the BS "insertion fees" and fees for photos...but I was simply ignorant of the 9 f'ing % final value fee. WHAT!?! And buyers expect to pay basically nothing for shipping...I have to buy the damn boxes and tape and packing peanuts and all that stuff and drive it to the post office, then pay the postage and get delivery confirmation...and my prices are already so low just so people will buy them! ahh!!

i feel bad for international sellers, they wont be making any money...i say lets buy junk and leave all low dsr's that will trigger ebay to remove those sellers shrinking the community...also after getting restricted, tell them you are another seller...then they will bust them too...repeat the process enough time and we all get invited back after being restricted!

how about posting a video that gives alternatives to ebay, instead of just complaining about it on some random video thats not doing any good?. They are doing this so people will list items w/ free shipping & they get more of a cut Istead of you getting those $1-15 no charge on shipping. Then they feature the listings w/ free shipping on thier home page to make more people wan't to list items free shipping & give them more free money.

I will just offer free shipping as a seller and raise my prices to cover my fees, shipping costs, and make a profit. I only pay ebay if I successfully sell an item. Just watch the number of free shipping items explode after the new fees take affect!

Shipping costs are high and getting higher so if you have a very heavy item its not worth selling on ebay!!! so ebay and paypal gobbles up to much in fees its hard to make any money and be competitive. EBID AND CRAIGSLIST is the way to go.

I guess I will not be selling anymore on e-bay! Where do they think the shipping supply comes from? Do they think it is free? It also costs a lot to ship! I will have to check into gamegavel! Does it cost anything to put your item on e-bay? If I do still sell on e-bay, I will have to ask more for my items!

Im an ebay buyer. When i search something, find an amazing deal, and then come to find out shipping is over $30 dollars. Its damn annoying.

It only tells the buyer what they will really be paying. Amazon does this, and no one complains about them.

In all honesty, I am happy with this. I will finally get the price that im going to pay, aside from some basterd that jacks up shipping to make up and then some for what they are trying to sell.

I can see how it sucks for sellers though.

@EXPLOSIVEEGG For a while now, though, ebay has limited shipping costs by averaging out items they have previous listings for (like video games). The way it works is that you can only charge $4 more than the average shipping cost, and if most of them have been free shipping, you better believe you can only charge $4 for shipping on that item. Ebay has enough problems already though, and they really didn't need to make this change.

This and the retarded £150=$270 buy it nows for not so rare computers (I saw a c64 breadbin for £350/$650 starting price the other day, it didn't sell, I've seen Atari800s for £450/$800, which didn't sell :) is turning ebay into a bit of a joke really, who can be bothered with this kind of crap .

I found this good. Why? Because i cant tell you how much i think i found a good deal on ebay . But then I look at the shipping its sometimes more mony for the shipping then it is for the item I want to buy. So thats why i find this a +. and the best alternative to ebay, hands down its amazon. + amazon has better deals on stuff.

@sonicdremgenesis I feel the same way when I try to buy stuff off of Ebay lately. Great deal, terrible shipping cost. Maybe this will make things more reasonable, but if I were a seller I would probably be pretty upset too. I'll continue to find games locally (thrifting, Craigslist) and hope for the best. Will be interesting to see how Ebay goes after these changes.

I've used ebay quite a bit and mostly as a buyer. I've always had a problem with the fees. This just makes it silly.

So I sell something for $0.99 and it costs me $15 to ship. Wait a minute, I just lost money... once from not getting what I paid for the item (happens) and then from it costing me more than the $0.99 in fees due to the shipping cost?

For higher priced items with low shipping costs, this works in the sellers favor but not for anything else.

I've almost completely stopped selling on ebay already. This will for sure make me stop altogether. I used to sell dozens of items per week back when the fees were reasonable. Then they increased and I had to cut way back. To make matters worse they took away the sellers ability to leave feedback about bad sellers and fraud became rampant. Add that to double dipping you for fees via PayPal and I no longer see it being a viable option. Amazon and Play.com are cheaper now anyways.

Since I don't sell things that regularly on eBay, I don't really have any strong opinion on the matter, but it does seem that they're ripping people off a bit. I mean, the postage is a cost incurred from the selling of your item, so you shouldn't have to pay for it again. I guess it could put off people who put things on for about £1 with ridiculous shipping, but I think there are probably better ways of dealing with the problem.

I don't like what ebay is doing, but the problem is just like you say, sites such as gamegavel don't have the same traffic as ebay. I think if gamegavel gets a bigger following, then it could be a good alternative. It's kinda hard to make the switch though, because in order to help them grow in size, you yourself have to start using their site, but in the beginning until they gain that big recognition you will be getting less money for your stuff. In the long run hopefully it can compete.

I'm glad I sold what I need to sell of my collection before this happened. I mentioned on Atariage that this is going to cause sellers to raise their prices HIGHER not lower to offset these new fees.

Ebay was big for me when I opened up an account many years ago, eventually just lost interest and only look for rare/hard to find games once a month. Thanks for posting the info so I am not shocked if I go back to posting auctions!
