The flickering on the screen is due to the crt refreshing the screen. It is not as smooth as a flat panel. You are pushing the computer running 10.3, but it will run it decently. You should be able to up the ram to 256 and 10.3 will run much better.
hey did you just have os 9.2.2 or did you upgrade form os 9.0? cuz mine wont upgrade from os 9.0 to 9.1 to 9..2.1 to 9.2.2 like apple you too, if you could help me thatd be great if not whatever :P
Which browsers do you have running in both OS9 & X, Pcmacp? Do they work properly? I ask, because have Mac OS 9 on Sheepshaver running on an Intel iMac with Snow Leopard, and the browser is iCab in v 2.something. It is hopeless at modern websites and I've tried to update it, but then the emulator just crashes. Likewise it won't recognise a printer. I imagine the best way to see Mac OS 9 working properly is to get a PowerPC Mac, as you have.
@2reallyboredguys why on earth would someone buy a mac and put vista on it..or even 7?if i ever consider any version of windows that would be xp sp3..the lightest of them all,,,
ummm i av a mac but cant get tha cd to upgrade it is it possible 4 u to download tha torrent file and burn it 2 a cd or cud u send tha file 2 me plz i wud b grateful
ummm, u prbly need a newer g3 mac atleast slot loading, and get a copy of virtual pc :) they arent on sale anymore, - i bought mine ages ago, so u somehow find a copy of it or something, and voila, install any os u want on it :D
I have iMac 2.8ghz and a Macbook 2.4ghz, but just for a laugh, I got this very iMac you have in this video. It hasn't arrived yet, but just out of interest, what's it like for the likes of Photoshop and Premiere (photos and video editing)?
Man, where did you get this computer? I found a deal at a local store for 50 bucks, but I am afraid that it has a password on it. Is there any place on the internet where i can get a cheap one?
Hi. I have a question. I received an iMac just like this one not long ago. It came to me with OS 9.1 and OS X 10.2 Jaguar on it. I want to install OS X Panther on it. I have the install CD and all, but something makes me nervous. After I install OS X Panther on my iMac, will it erase the second operating system I have on it right now (OS 9.1), or will it remain there until I use the operating system again?
Wow! This is going to knock the socks off some of the poohbas who say you can't run two OS from one hard drive. Am I right in thinking that when you installed Panther, something must have partitioned your HD to accommodate the second OS?
I bought a b/w G3 tower and installed a second hard drive to operate OS 9.2.2. The initial HD had OS Panther on it. My 350 MHz processor is slow, heaps of RAM (768 Mb), but your 333 MHz seems to kick things along okay.
I just installed Panther when OS 9.2.2 was already on it and after I installed Panther there was two system folders: the OS 9 system folder & the Panther system folder. Now, I can switch between either system folder. In other words, I can switch between either operating system.
i just got one of these but it doesn't appear to have an os installed (I get a flashing question mark/folder icon).
I tried booting from the cds that came with it (I know the cd is ok because it loaded fine in os x on my intel mac), but it just gives me a happy mac icon and does nothing.
You really don't need OS9 when you have Panther because if you bought the PowerPC version and you have a PowerPC processor, you can run Classic inside of Panther.
hey i just bought an old imac g3 333mhz with OS 9.2. Do you need to have OS 9 installed to install OS X? How do you find the overall performance under panther?
No, you don't need to have OS 9 to install OS X. Panther is a very good operating system. It performs well. Just make sure your iMac G3 has enough RAM to install OS X!
STEWIE!!!!! I love stewie!! Very nice wallpaper. :)
Anyways, I remember OS 9, I'm just a senior in HS now but in my middle school we had these color imacs with the OS 9. I got my first mac at home from my mom for my birthday in 7th or 8th grade, I don't remember which.
I've got one of the new iMacs now with Leopard and I love it. I had wanted a black macbook but my parents wouldn't get it for me because I'm getting ready to go to college in August and they didn't want it to get stolen.
how well... (or how bad)... does Firefox and Safari perform on this old machine under Panther? Does scrolling through certain webpages seem to bring your iMac/333 to a crawl? Have you considered trying to install Tiger using the CD version (not DVD)? What about getting a processor upgrade for it (like the Sonnet G3 Harmoni 600MHz)?
Well, I took the iMac on the internet and Apple, Microsoft and Google worked well but other sites such as YouTube slowed it down a bit. With it's current specs, I don't think Tiger will work well or at all so no, I have not considered installing Tiger. I have never thought about getting a processor upgrade for it, but it does sound like a great idea. I will have to try that some time. Thanks for asking!
Actually no, I did not use Boot Camp. Mac OS 9.2.2 was already installed and when Mac OS 10.3 Panther was installed, Mac OS 9.2.2 was not deleted. Therefore, two operating systems remained. Now, I can choose between either operating system.
Which OS do I prefer? Wow, that's a tough one. Well Mac OS 9 is pretty good and so is Mac OS 10.3 Panther, but I think Panther is a bit better. Mac OS 10.4 Tiger is awesome. I have not really used Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. Have you used Leopard yet? If so, what do you think about it?
Well, I use Leopard right now actually, I got my first Mac in December, but I have known a lot about Apple before that. Leopard is a bit buggy, but yes the features are very impressive, but if you'd rather not spend a lot of money then I'd stick with Tiger, because it is an already well established and supported OS. But I have to admit, I use Spaces all the time.
I have tiger 10.4 and have software that I lost the discs to.
I never want to loose them they're working perfectly.
I want to upgrade to SnowLeopard 10.6 but without it wiping away ANY of my stuff on tiger.
Can I install it on a separate slate and switch between the two Operating Systems?
