  • Gotta admit, given the platform this is actually one of the best looking racing games for it. Most of the Atari 2600 racing games were top-down view games (eg Indy 500 and Street Racer). Only Night Driver (which was monochrome! and your car was the only car participating in the game) and Enduro had the in-car or behind-the car 3D like view aside from Pole Position (and still, Pole Position looked better and sounded better).

  • @sailorenlil Really? I thought Enduro was much more satisfying. Then again, I am a sucker for Activision's changing weather.

  • Xbox... la consola mas corriente

  • How are the controls for this?

  • Man!,...I remember being glued to this! I thought this was the greatest thing ever!

  • Amazing with what little possibilities you can not only create the illusion of speed and movement but also make a highly addictive game. :) Game making at it's best. Todays game makers should remember what they started with and come back to the roots: addictive gameplay instead of trying to blind us with flashy graphics. :) Old-school rocks (and my fave game of all time is still Asteroids, 1979 version by Atari. Black screen and a few white lines is all it takes).

  • I love the lack of detail on the other cars.

  • I REMEMBER THIS GAME SINCE I WAS 4 YEARS OLD. I AM 30 RIGHT NOW

  • The Atari blows the PS3 away because it all about the Gameplay and NOT the graphics.

  • amazing graphics. looks so real

  • My first ever racing game :-) :-)

  • Very Playable. 60,000 score, I believe, was "perfect"

  • we've came a long way....

  • I don't remember Atari Pole Position looking this good. The sound is pretty decent as well!

  • the sound of the engine kicked asses!

  • no billboards?

  • i hate it the contollsd suck im sry but they do

  • dont forget the ATARI 2600 is a 1977 console:)

  • Were those yellow things (not the road lines) supposed to be cars or what? They look like the ships from space invaders. One thing I'll say for this game is that Pole Position created a unique world that looked ultra sterile and uninhabited. The car racing around the track may be the only thing going on in the universe.

  • @lunchboxattacks1 It's an Atari 2600, you're lucky to have double coloured track markings.

  • How can you have a game called pole position that isn't about strippers?

  • LOL, I can't believe they called it "Pole Position"

  • Oh my god. That brings back some memories. :-)

  • Meeemories. Good game. The sound of passing a car really takes me back.

  • aaaay a webisimo

  • i like the wide track. many racing games that are pole position clones/upgrades have a narrow track making for more frustrating gameplay. this is nice

  • nice two toned music ,too

  • pretty impressive, considering this is atari 2600!

although rival cars look like fences...

  • Damn good for the 2600, considering what it had...

  • OMG this guy beat Chunk from "The Goonies" high score of 1632.

  • pole position on the atari 5200 and pole position 2 on the atari 7800 is better they on the atari 2600.

  • @arcadelover1980 O my god, what a miracle...!!!

  • for the 2600 - very nice graphics^^

  • its amazing haw far games have evolved

  • true, but evolution was not consistent

  • PS3?

  • Νοpe. XBOX 360. :P

  • @carlaosantos1313 The graphics are too good

  • @carlaosantos1313 Ahahaha, an Xbox fanboy!

  • @carlaosantos1313 YOU'RE NOT GONNA PLAY YOUR PS3!! YOU'RE GONNA PLAY.... POOLE POSSSIIIIITIOOONN!!!!!

  • Is this for the 2600 :O amazing!!

  • My dad gave Pole Position for me in Xmas 1983, I remember. I had Missile Command, Pac Man, Air Sea Battle, Berzerk and one more but I can't remember now.

I still have my 42 or 43 Atari cartridges and the game console working, but I'm afraid there's only 1 joystick in good conditions. :(

Sorry about my english, hope u guys can understand me.

  • I remember being horribly dissapointed by this port...where the fuck were the SIGNS!?!? There are supposed to be signs on the side of the road. Really not a bad port at all considering it's the 2600 but without the signs way too easy - just kills it.

  • I remember trading my Stampede game for this back in 1987. I think I got the better end of the deal.

  • OH GOD ATARI games were classic back in the 80's I say everyone should own a atari and get PAC-MAN super classic

  • what!? did u say pac-man the atari port!? that was one of the shittiest games ever! it was nohting like pac man

  • This was way out of date by 1987...

  • heh yeah...but me and my friends didn't have an NES until 1988/89.

  • Great video!!

  • AhahAHhahHAhahh

    AHAhahahHAHA

  • This game a pure classic

  • no puedo creerlo, que buena onda que suban este video me hicieron recordar mi niñes de cuando tenia 7 años y jugaba esto, era mi preferido, ahora tengo 28 y no saben que nostalgia me da

  • To me this was Christmas Day 1983...bloody marvelous stuff!

  • Yes quite a charming version of the arcade game and one of my fave 2600 games

  • amazing !!! my first game lol ! greating from germany
