I think this song is about a fire that started with some grapevines and spread to the surrounding town and the narrator and his girlfriend (along with her daughter) watched the whole thing from a cemetery on a hill, on a hill...
People say that this song is about accepting death after having lived a long and nice life and yeah it definitly could be, but I think this song can about any theme. But to me this song is about un-answered love, or about love overall. How it starts with a small flame but then the wind makes it grow more and more, how you sometimes feel like your gonna die, like you're burning. Then maybe these two people in the song, meet up years after their love and the guy feels it's okay being just friends.
To be fair... DCFC has always been and will always be considered a band under the Indie genre. What comes with being a part of this genre is a lack of widespread popularity that mainstream bands achieve. Indie bands will always sound great and their music will always sound true because it's THEIR music. It's not that all these mainstream artists are being processed to some illusion of talent, but that the music is not theirs. Simply said it's cranked out by hired musicians. You can't polish poo.
How could anyone NOT love Death Cab? Each song can relate to anyone in one way or another, by coincidence, not on purpose. They just have that kind of feel to them, to where when you listen to them, they just flow through your veins. Goodness, this band is great. <3
There's nothing better than listening to a song that makes you think of the person you love. Check out my song "Diane" if you're in love and never want it to end. Send it to your boyfriend, girlfriend, or even your friends. It's the first video on my youtube channel. Enjoy!
Omg I was living their in California when that happened and it headed straight 4 our house and just in time it didn't destroy everything we own. Thank you 4 making this it's a good reminder of how we lived and to all the firefighters that c this I thank you 4 saving my little bro me and the rest of my family. Thank you.
I effin love DCFC SO MUCH!! the lyrics are just so... AHH! and the slow, emotional yet catchy music is just so.... as I've previously said "AHH!" i cant describe it!
I like how their live version sounds better than the CD itself. That's what makes a great musician/band. To be able to sound better than the recorded track. (only my opinion. Don't bully me if I'm wrong. I'm 13. And not very wise)
@GuidoBanditoArrigoni nup you're completely right, any band that can't perform decently live is useless and SHOULD not last long. Unfortunately, 99% of radio music today is created by people with a false impression of skill due to being able to us a lot of effects and processing to make themselves sound good... and people buy into that shit, it's sickening.
@TheSummerService isn't that the wrong idea? I mean, isn't music about the music itself and not the skill level of the person performing it? True, the skill level involved shows their dedication to their ideas but I think music is about more.. Music to me is about the content.. If someone has great music running through their head, doesn't have any skill to play it out with instruments, but can get it to us relatively easily with computer programs, shouldn't we be glad about that?
@SHIBBYiPANDA Fair point... all music is subjective, but when was the last time you heard Death Cab for Cutie on the radio? Regardless of the skill issue it's good music (again... subjective I know) and should deserve some air time, rather than lady gaga's latest song about bondage.
@TheSummerService haha, lady gaga actually writes and even, occasionally, plays her own music and when she's not playing it instrumentally she's performing with dance and stuff so I actually respect Lady Gaga pretty hardcore.. Anything that brings a more positive view of sexuality to the people, esp WOMEN, is good to me.. If I was going to pick a popular artist to have Death Cab replace it would be someone like Jason Derulo or 3oh3! or some of the latest BULLSHIT Lil Wayne has produced for us!!!
@TheSummerService I have just finished making a cd using really old recording techniques. I have no musical talent yet i played all instruments and still managed to make it sound great. I really hope people will listen to it because the ideas behind the music aim to expand the mind, the music sounds great and has some deep concepts. Now, If I tried to play the music live (especially drums) it would be an epic failure.
you guys are all hypnotized idiots Chris Walla should get all the commendations because he doesnt ever make a mistake. ben is the ONLY one who makes a mistake and just because hes "cute" and sings doesnt just make you good. just because Chris isnt as handsome, doesnt make him a worse musician. thir fans are pathetic.
@JohnnyBgoode44 Well i think playing the keyboard and singing while playing the guitar are like apples and oranges so saying one person is a better musician for making less mistakes than the other(i apologize if thats not what your trying to say) is a bit unfair.
personally i think Chris is the better looking of the band.
Before you try and "hate" on this music...please attempt to analyze it. They write and perform their music with a passion that I wish I could express through instruments the way that they do. Also, understand that their music comforts and brings many people happiness. Death Cab's songs remind me of a time in my life when I used to have intense hope for all the vivid colors in the world.
I think the singer has an amazing voice (: I use to listen to ac/dc job for a cowboy stuff of that nature but now I'm indie all the way (: this guy is amazing
#1 he sounds the same because he doesnt need to edit his voice its amazing #2 who disliked this like wtf, srsly? #3 dcfc is probably the best band for this past decade screw all of that mainline shit you hear on the radio with them just synthisiezing thier voice because they suck at singing

@Gmancrap There's a difference between selling out and making beautiful music. Selling out would require them to claim in the first place that they're not going to "sell-out" or go "mainstream".
