  • chris is such a natural

  • thank you, the O.C, for introducing Death Cab For Cutie to me.. im forever grateful<3

  • Most disturbing. Thanx

  • favourite death cab tune :) (ever)

  • 17 People who died in the grapevine fire..

  • Best. Keyboard tone. Ever.

  • wow, they sound even better live!

  • I think this song is about a fire that started with some grapevines and spread to the surrounding town and the narrator and his girlfriend (along with her daughter) watched the whole thing from a cemetery on a hill, on a hill...

  • Dear God, thank you for the creation of this amazing music. wtf? I meant dear DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE..lol. isnt that contradicting?

  • one of the best bands and live sounds ever!

  • 17 people have dislexia.

  • @itwasntme100 dyslexia ;)

  • i love dcfc so much imma burst yo! ITS..... BEAUTIFUL

  • This some means alot to me.

  • i'm not crying i just got great music stuck in my eyes

  • @MrZenCode Totally awesome comment dude :D

  • there awesome

  • 16 people suck.... just sayin

  • Wow, they are great live...I'ms surprised. They are coming to Ohio in a few days, and you can bet I'll be there!

  • I love MediaOutletOnline for doonnlooading f~ree s0ngs such as this one! Yall can find it using Bing.

  • People say that this song is about accepting death after having lived a long and nice life and yeah it definitly could be, but I think this song can about any theme. But to me this song is about un-answered love, or about love overall. How it starts with a small flame but then the wind makes it grow more and more, how you sometimes feel like your gonna die, like you're burning. Then maybe these two people in the song, meet up years after their love and the guy feels it's okay being just friends.

  • @kissemiss im gunna puke

  • @dbenoit64 Want me to hold your hair for you?

  • Now this. Is real music. <3

  • To be fair... DCFC has always been and will always be considered a band under the Indie genre. What comes with being a part of this genre is a lack of widespread popularity that mainstream bands achieve. Indie bands will always sound great and their music will always sound true because it's THEIR music. It's not that all these mainstream artists are being processed to some illusion of talent, but that the music is not theirs. Simply said it's cranked out by hired musicians. You can't polish poo.

  • in one word one word, awesome.

  • The bass player looks like Zach Galifianakis(Allen from the hangover) at 1:50 :)

  • their keys guy needs a new haircut.

  • Is that a Fender Rhodes electric piano? I don't think it is, but it sounds a bit like one. I am going to see them tomorrow at the Metro. Can't wait.

  • can I buy this session in the hall of justice on dvd or blueray?

  • Amazing!!!

  • lmao gibbard sounds like he's saying auburn.

  • If you have time, please listen to my poem I wrote about Death Cab! It's spoken in my video entitled "Lyricist, Musician." Thank you! <3

  • How could anyone NOT love Death Cab? Each song can relate to anyone in one way or another, by coincidence, not on purpose. They just have that kind of feel to them, to where when you listen to them, they just flow through your veins. Goodness, this band is great. <3

  • Death cab is so awesome live!!!! :D

  • hÍhi_änýÕnÊ_wàNna_chãt_wìth_mè_í_fèÉl_sõ_löÑélÿ_tóÐãý*

  • Okay, call me crazy, but does Ben not look like Dwight from The Office?

  • @tr4nsist0r yes he does!

  • @tr4nsist0r yup...and the bassist looks like zach galifianakis

  • wow what a great song!

  • 15 people burned away.

  • Damn that is a great groove. :D

  • Ben Gibbard looks like Dwight from The Office

  • @frenchsaber no he doesnt

  • Uhhh!

  • isit just just me or does the pianist look like johnny depp?

  • FuckerrRRR!!!!!!

  • Death Cab ROCKS!!!! they should be featured on live from Abbey road

  • Man, today is the first time i heard this song, This is how i know this guys are amazing I love this song, and in the first time. IS AWESOME! lml

keep on that work Death Cab, you really know how to make music.

  • Omg I was living their in California when that happened and it headed straight 4 our house and just in time it didn't destroy everything we own. Thank you 4 making this it's a good reminder of how we lived and to all the firefighters that c this I thank you 4 saving my little bro me and the rest of my family. Thank you.

  • I love DCFC! Great songwriters.

You might like music if you like them.

  • I effin love DCFC SO MUCH!! the lyrics are just so... AHH! and the slow, emotional yet catchy music is just so.... as I've previously said "AHH!" i cant describe it!

  • i didn't know zach galifianakis was in a band...

  • @sislinemark He's so much cooler.... I mean Nick Harmer...

  • fav Deathcab song of all time.

  • is this a video of when they recorded the track? because all of these are almost perfect to the album versions.

  • @eliwamo i feel like they are just fucking good.

  • Does anyone else think that Ben looks a little like Leonard from The Big Bang Theory?

  • @TehBonar I can sorta see that, its really faint though.

  • This reminds me of the Dead.

  • why does ben gibbard look different EVERYTIME i see him??

  • I'd loose my jar of jelly for Death Cab For Cutie. *heart*

  • I like how their live version sounds better than the CD itself. That's what makes a great musician/band. To be able to sound better than the recorded track. (only my opinion. Don't bully me if I'm wrong. I'm 13. And not very wise)

  • @TheJakwak you can't be wrong for having an opinion - and a good one at that. you are definitely correct, no doubt. death cab is a great band.

  • God this song is beautiful...I love death cab and I cannot wait until they tour...they are just such a chill band.

  • @GuidoBanditoArrigoni nup you're completely right, any band that can't perform decently live is useless and SHOULD not last long. Unfortunately, 99% of radio music today is created by people with a false impression of skill due to being able to us a lot of effects and processing to make themselves sound good... and people buy into that shit, it's sickening.

  • @TheSummerService Good comment

  • @TheSummerService dude ur so right

  • @500608 amen lol

  • @TheSummerService isn't that the wrong idea? I mean, isn't music about the music itself and not the skill level of the person performing it? True, the skill level involved shows their dedication to their ideas but I think music is about more.. Music to me is about the content.. If someone has great music running through their head, doesn't have any skill to play it out with instruments, but can get it to us relatively easily with computer programs, shouldn't we be glad about that?

  • @SHIBBYiPANDA Fair point... all music is subjective, but when was the last time you heard Death Cab for Cutie on the radio? Regardless of the skill issue it's good music (again... subjective I know) and should deserve some air time, rather than lady gaga's latest song about bondage.

  • @TheSummerService haha, lady gaga actually writes and even, occasionally, plays her own music and when she's not playing it instrumentally she's performing with dance and stuff so I actually respect Lady Gaga pretty hardcore.. Anything that brings a more positive view of sexuality to the people, esp WOMEN, is good to me.. If I was going to pick a popular artist to have Death Cab replace it would be someone like Jason Derulo or 3oh3! or some of the latest BULLSHIT Lil Wayne has produced for us!!!

  • @TheSummerService listen to CBC radio 2

  • @dbenoit64 I could be displaying my ignorance here, but I'd be confident to say that that is not aired in Australia. Other than internet radio.

  • @TheSummerService

I totally agree. I feel like most americans are lazy and do not know

what good music is anymore.. Its now all about major record labels

signing people who do not have 1/2 the talent DCFC has!!!

Its just another sign of the changing times..

How to make a quick dollar releasing cheap material

Lets step up the bar people~~!!!!!

  • @TheSummerService I have just finished making a cd using really old recording techniques. I have no musical talent yet i played all instruments and still managed to make it sound great. I really hope people will listen to it because the ideas behind the music aim to expand the mind, the music sounds great and has some deep concepts. Now, If I tried to play the music live (especially drums) it would be an epic failure.

  • @dbenoit64 Interesting... never thought of that :)

Have you uploaded anywhere? I'll have a listen.

  • @TheSummerService Now thst's the freakin truth! stuido musicans is what I call it! And that's being nice ;-)

  • @GuidoBanditoArrigoni Now thst's the freakin truth! stuido musicans is what I call it! And that's being nice ;-)

  • @TheSummerService You are so right man. All the radio is is just rap, and hip-hop garbage.

  • @TheSummerService...I couldn't agree more. If they can't play their stuff well live, they shouldn't be able to make an album

  • you guys are all hypnotized idiots Chris Walla should get all the commendations because he doesnt ever make a mistake. ben is the ONLY one who makes a mistake and just because hes "cute" and sings doesnt just make you good. just because Chris isnt as handsome, doesnt make him a worse musician. thir fans are pathetic.

  • @JohnnyBgoode44 Well i think playing the keyboard and singing while playing the guitar are like apples and oranges so saying one person is a better musician for making less mistakes than the other(i apologize if thats not what your trying to say) is a bit unfair.

personally i think Chris is the better looking of the band.

  • Music does not have to be agreed upon. You like what you like, thats the beauty of it. Though there music I don't like, I keep it to myself.

  • I for some reason always want to hug Walla when I see him play

  • Adoro eta canción!

  • My favourite new YouTube video, my favourite new song-thanks for sharing this !!!

  • @ScaredPiglet keep it tom yourself man thats like asking for conflict and nasty comments

  • @ScaredPiglet you suck

  • @ScaredPiglet so you went out of your way to come to this video and tell us that you have no taste in music.. ok do whatever u want

  • Before you try and "hate" on this music...please attempt to analyze it. They write and perform their music with a passion that I wish I could express through instruments the way that they do. Also, understand that their music comforts and brings many people happiness. Death Cab's songs remind me of a time in my life when I used to have intense hope for all the vivid colors in the world.

  • I'm going to need 14 bullets...

  • @SPplan94 Is your skull that thick?

There is the alternative to find some much happier music to listen to instead of this depressing shit.

  • @ScaredPiglet if you dont like it, STEP THE FUCK OUT.

  • @ScaredPiglet Haha go fuck yourself and listen to some uplifting rihanna or something. You souless tool.

  • nice telecaster ben.

  • @BoNgWaTeRdEmOn too bad it's a freakin copy. lol

  • sound so good live

  • @blobby135 ITS NOT FUCKING LIVE YOU IDIOT. STUDIO IS IN THE NAME.

  • @JohnnyBgoode44 It clearly is live. It is played in one of their home studios, but definitely live.

  • @JohnnyBgoode44 sure, but you can SEE everything that is happening, a lot more credible than when you hear a song on a CD or the radio.

  • Beautiful

  • whats the rush?

  • its awesome when i band can sound the same live as they do on their album

  • Great song!

  • why doesnt he **move away from the mic to breathe in ?

  • @Scris101

I think it sounds better with the breathing in for some odd reason, more 'real'.. but that's just me. (:

  • @Scris101 cause its a waste of energy. besides how many singers do you actually see that do that ? haha

  • @Fruitargeek Tay Zonday.

  • @Fruitargeek Wow you're stupid....

  • @SuperiorSwagon1 Wow you're a dick...

  • @Scris101 it's a nice affect.

  • @Scris101 Style

  • @Scris101: becaues hes too good to breathe!

  • @Scris101 I like hearing him breathe

  • @Scris101 vocals often sound unnatural if you remove the breaths

  • @Scris101 why does it even matter?

  • @Mooooo363 If you watched chocolate rain you would know...

  • @Scris101 lol

  • THIS SONG = LOVELY

  • One of the best Death Cab songs yet. From 2:42 onward...wow.

    Soo, soo, calming.

  • @randa2723 completely agree. One of my favorite songs along with Marching Bands and Transatlanticism

  • I love the sound of when someone is singing and they are moving just enough to cause slight rhythmic tremolo

  • exelent song.

  • I think the singer has an amazing voice (: I use to listen to ac/dc job for a cowboy stuff of that nature but now I'm indie all the way (: this guy is amazing

  • 1:45 ...Nice try.

  • Comment removed

  • I've been listening to these guys for yeeeearsss,

and I liked SOME of Narrow Stairs,

but I certainly didn't hate any of it.

  • Whoa! This is up tempo!

  • I still don't know why Narrow Stairs gets so much hate from the fans....Its one of their best albums.

  • @darthpigeon04 i wouldnt say best but i agree that i dont see where the hate is coming from

  • @darthpigeon04 agree. I dont get it either.

  • At 0:25 does he say "A wake-up call to a rented room" or "A wake-up call to a rancid room"? Rancid as in the smell of the smoke?

  • @LarryFahn Rented...

  • @LarryFahn He says rented room

  • The 14 dislikes are sadly mistaken

  • this song is awesome (:

  • #1 he sounds the same because he doesnt need to edit his voice its amazing #2 who disliked this like wtf, srsly? #3 dcfc is probably the best band for this past decade screw all of that mainline shit you hear on the radio with them just synthisiezing thier voice because they suck at singing

  • So amazing! DCFC is the greatest! How could you thumbs down this work from god!?!?!?!

  • You see I always thought this was a sad song, but it's a happy song disgised as a sad song!!

  • @Arrowhead729 its about the black saturday fires its not a happy song

  • So simple. So perfect

  • this song knocks-me-out!

  • have i ever mentioned that i dig this song...no...ALOT.....like a 215 CAT excavator...

  • anyone notice the bass die out at about 2:50?

  • Ben and Zooey's future children are going to grow up to be quite possibly the greatest thing this world will ever see...

  • This band hands down is awesome. I would love to share the stage with this band. They deserve much repsect!

  • I am God and thy name is Benjamin Gibbard

  • Things like this help me sleep at night,

    despite my extreme insomnia.

  • THIS is why they invented Youtube. Thank you Cookiemonstrehab. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • ....

I thought they wanted YOU to TUBE

not to tube other peoples stuff?

  • ah it goes a little deeper than that. although you're totally right about gene krupa, purdie was a huge influence on bonham. purdie was one of the earliest drummers to give a very heavy emphasis on beat 1.

  • If this is grapevine fires then what the fuck is

From the bird house straight to the kids explode

    etc. those lyrics?!

  • Comment removed

  • one of the most unique voices i've ever heard

  • Fucking love that drum beat.

    Great song.

  • Death Cab makes me happy.

  • This is the kind of video that keeps up my faith in modern music. Un-fucking-real.

  • I WOULD DIE TO SEE THEM.

  • Oh my goodness this is amazing! I love them live they are so amazing! please go to MY CHANNEL AND LOOK at my rendition!

  • Very nice. Well done. Sounds spot on.

  • Masters of their craft. Pure and simple.

  • they are just so badass it's not even comparable. <3 it.

  • the drum groove is totally bonham's half-time shuffle - respect

  • @tomsie1000 No actually its originally Bernard Perdie's "Perdie Shuffle." Respect the originators

  • @MasterJruss

Yeah Perdie was Bonhams favorite drummer. Have you seen the video of Perdie explaining the shuffle?

  • @underscoredrums Yea a few times actually. He is probably one of my favorite drummers, and hes hilarious lol

  • @underscoredrums

Actually Gene Krupa was John Bonhams favorite drummer. he was just inspired by Bernard Purdie's shuffle so much that he created the now famous "Fool In The Rain" shuffle, FYI Jeff Porcaro also took from the purdie shuffle to create his own in Toto's "Rosanna".

  • Gibbard = Dylan of this generation. No contest.

  • jason mcgerr is such an adaptable drummer, all his beats are great

  • If you think they're sell outs, you're a sell out.

  • @gmancrap pull the stick out of your ass

  • I LOVE his voice. He does sound exactly the same. XD

  • @Gmancrap There's a difference between selling out and making beautiful music. Selling out would require them to claim in the first place that they're not going to "sell-out" or go "mainstream". Both of which they seem neither to be. Also because they make good money from their music and make a living from it, why hold that against them?
