  • i heard guys saying that the smart is safe because doesn't destroy almost at all and stuff

ok you won't die mashed but the car doesn't absorb the impact at all because it's too short, resulting that the people in the car will suffer a great shock and injuries because of the sudden stop and almost instant decelaration

  • @cata18tm it depends i think if you crash into a large saloon car with big crumple zones you can use there crumple zones to slow you down. however if you hit a tree or somthing you will be badly hurt... the car is still probly one of the safest super minis on the market, just rember dont swerve to doge the car and hit a tree and you will be fine XD

  • @THEBOB566974 sorry didnt see how old the post was :(

  • It should never have been called a "Smart".

It should have been called a "Splat!" because that's what you're going to be doing inside one of those things.

  • So the Smart is a good car if you like to crash into things and cant parallel park, bad if people like to crash into you.

  • Once again, the car is thrown right into another lane of traffic for secondary collisions.

  • That happens to all cars in an offset crash, just not to the same extent as the Fortwo.

  • Smart cars are awful! Who would buy one!!?? So unsafe as well!

  • for starters... I'm not going to try and crash in one. second... thats a "street" car. Meant to be driven in NYC or Paris or London. Who in the right mind would drive it in the freeway??

  • I`a sarit carcasa :))

  • violent rebound

  • The short wheelbase doesn't help

  • All cars rebound from the impact point.

The rebound is proportional to the force exerted.

F=MA - remember your physics lessons at school?

    This car did very well.

  • @tcpnetworks actually not all the cars will be trown back. The crumble zone actually takes in that opposite force by bending which also slows the car instead of a brutal stop.

  • @dadumbazz *as much

  • @dadumbazz

Mate - go back to school - learn about momentum.

  • @tcpnetworks lol what a bitch thing to say especially coming from someone that clearly doesn't understand the concept that would make some objects bounce back harder than others depending on the way they deform themselves on impact. oh well I guess you're fit to get my name XD

  • @dadumbazz

Have a degree in engineering and work for a car manufacturer... Yeah.. I know nothing about it... yeah...

How's that Pontiac G8 you guys in the US have over there - it's Australian by the way....

  • @tcpnetworks I never asked where it came from you retard.

  • @tcpnetworks btw not saying you're a retard because you got no education. The reason is that you obviously don't understand the concept even know you supposedly know it.

  • @tcpnetworks Just tell me this : If you got 3 cars of the same weight. 1 with no criple zone, 1 with a 1 meter criple zone engine in front and an other one with the engine in the back. Will they all bounce back the same distance and same way? Will they all decelerate the same once hitting that wall?

  • @tcpnetworks go learn back something as simple as the concept of forces opposing one an other where a force can be distributed thus reduced and even canceled.

  • @tcpnetworks A mate is a person's sexual partner. Please stop calling people "mate" unless you're having sex with them on a regular basis. Thanks, dude.

  • @z28com

Well - a "mate" in Australia, the UK and pretty much anywhere that is not the US , is a friend.

A "Dude" is a Camels DICK. So, why are you calling me a Camels dick for????

  • @tcpnetworks easy test for you to remember how it works : trow a bouncing ball on wall, a baseball, and a bowling ball XD Then wrap them in paper loosely and see what it does XD

  • @tcpnetworks hint : in this case there's friction and force that is requiered to bend the metal that has to be taken into account. If this wasn't true then the cars before the 80s would be the safest in the world!

  • the sound effect was stupid

  • So many people do not have a clue what they are talking about.......but they dish out statements though.

Get it,test it and then go with your rating.

  • yeah, i suppose you're right...but there's also the breaking involved, so i guess no one ever really hits something at 140km/h...

but thanks for the dark perspective about accidents ahah

  • I have one of this little box with tires. very funny to drive, but i guess not so funny to have an accident with...

they do this test at what speed? 70 km/h? 90? my smart goes up to 140...not so safe at that speed...

but then again, i bet it's safer than my other car, a twingo ahah

  • It doesn´t metter. All cars will be tested at 64 km/h. If you´ll crash with any other car on 140 Km/h you won´t survive it. It is just way too fast and the g-forces will just smash your internal organs.

  • Bullshit, if you have a secure good car you can crash at 140 and you'll be fine, but than again, you need a car not a Smart

  • I told him not to drink before he went to work did he listen? No!

    dummy!

  • lol very funny

  • if u search for fiat 500 vs. audi q7 ull see thats its not about the size. if u then search for chinese or russian crash test ull have a confirmation!

  • one of the worlds safest cars!

  • only if crashed with vehicle close to its weight...If crashed , lets say with Hummer, it will be bad news for smart car driver

  • Thats the nice thing about smart. Even with a hummer, the Chassis stays intact. Sure, the car gets pushed aside pretty hard but u wont get smashed. They tried it I think with a dodge 4x4 here and the vage didnt smash

  • Still the driver of smart would get hurt more, just because of the obesity of the hummer

  • Smarts can fly

  • worlds safest golf cart.

  • LOL!!!!!

  • tune in next week when we crash the smart car at an amazing 10 miles an hour !

  • nice . problem is , in Europe the road runs parallel to the train tracks , so good luck when your little world savior would be like a penny on the tracks ...only with you in it

  • So you are saying that you would be safer in any other car when it comes to a train?

  • actually, yes he do. lol!!!

  • well ull have to admit that if a car gets hit by a train, it doesnt really matter if ur driving a smart or a jetta or a chrysler. But the train tracks are protected from the road by fences and stuff.

  • I'm assuming that this looks safe because the car is light and wouldnt rip itself apart as a heavy truck would. Now let me see an SUV smack this car at 30-70 mph. Then ill consider any test crahses.

  • CHOW333, says

'then be run over by massive SUVs that are going over 70 mph moments later...yes...MUCH safer....*rolls eyes*... ' Are u saying we should all go out and buy massive suv's to protect ourselves from people who erm.....go out and buy massive suv's...??

A safe CAR will protect you just as well WHILST giving the occupants of the other car you hit a chance. A suv will protect you...but at the expence of who u hit.

  • what it reallys bothers me is the fact that the little car jumps to the other side, with the front smashed up, so, if a car comes beside you or behind, the problem will be bigger, the other possible "stage" is that a another side-track comes with a lot of cars...

  • thats 2X even more durable and stronger than china make and chinas normal car like with four doors is weaer than this

  • it preformed good in the sense that the head didn't slam into metal. but with lack of room for crumple zones; the impulse the driver feels , me thinks, would be unbearable.

  • That would be true, except this care doesn't crumple. ITS CALLED A TRIDION CELL!

  • The Smart has incredible structural safety, but what you're not realizing is that because the crumple zones are so short, the vehicle comes to an abrupt stop during a crash much more quickly, which puts more strain on the occupants. You may not be crushed to death in a Smart, but it is very likely you would die of internal injuries form such abrupt deceleration during an impact.

  • its a city car... its top speed is only 110km/h but anyway the sturcture absorbs most of the decleration. hence the car called a smart

  • @palebeachbum If you're so worried about, then don't crash into anything and you won't have that problem. I have a good 700,000+ miles of driving experience and have never been involved in an accident in my entire life. If you drive like an idiot and don't pay attention to your surroundings, then you have what's coming to you. Everybody rags on these cars, yet I never see people bashing motorcycles with zero protection.

  • that is the best car ever

  • very secure!

  • How the hell to this video has sound! I thought the high speed cameras has not sound!!!!! REPLY!

  • thats actually pretty good

  • This test and the American crash testing shows the driver airbag isn't doing it's job properly. The dummies head hits the steering wheel through the bag. Not good. Structurally it's amazingly safe though and one of the safest economy cars even being the smallest and lightest.

  • Yeah they definitely need to fix that.

  • Luv that car!

  • The Smart is such crap.

If you want good MPG, get a diesel hatch...

  • how about a diesel smart?

  • They get much higher MPGs, but they don't have enough power for American roads, not to mention right now diesel fuel is significantly more expensive in the US by about $.50/gallon. It was a huge mistake that it requires premium though. This thing is supposed to be all about efficiency!

  • lol didnt jeremy clarkson say that?

  • much safer than a Motorcycle...

    but not much else...

  • still safer then those shitboxes from china though...

  • much safer than a Motorcycle...?

depends...you can go on a highway and crash the smart and die...you can go on a highway crash a motorcycle and survive by doing 150meters skiing on the surface...

  • then be run over by massive SUVs that are going over 70 mph moments later...yes...MUCH safer....*rolls eyes*...

  • so safe for such a small car

  • holy shit! it lived!

  • Smart is a masterpiece of engineering and safety.Compare it to the chinese death cars...

  • Excelent! for a car like this! Wow!

  • shit you need some good inshurence for this shit cos not only will u have to pay for the guy u crashed into but also will have to explain how the fuck your car ended up flying into the 3 that were parked up on the curve lol

  • kesin lan

  • are you fucking crazy? Smart cars are the safest cars on the road you moron!

  • LOL

  • Smart cars are the safest SUPERMINI cars on the world, don't compare it with an renault laguna or a bigger 4/5 stars car

  • unsafe DRIVERS make all cars unsafe. if the world was perfect and EVERYONE drove responsibly all the emphasis on making a car safe from bad drivers would be moot. Yes accidents happen, but the vast majority are due to someones carelessness while driving. Be Safe

  • it prformend relly well but the cruble zone waz too small wich sent the dummie moveing foward too fast that wold explain the big airbags and the tire was maintained outside the vichel by the "tridion safety cell" Wiched helped alot althogh on the 2008 model they should of added knee air bags because that waz one of the main reasons the car did not get a five star.

  • For the smarts compact design, it has an incredible crash test rating of 4/5 for frontal crash tests.

  • The 4 of 5 star EuroNCAP rating applies to the second generation Fortwo. This is the first generation which got 3/5. Good for it's age and size. 3/5 stars for any car in the late-ish nineties was good especially for a car of this type.

  • lol...you survive the initial crash only to be hit by a truck after the car is tossed into another lane

  • damn! dat's not how you pass a crash test ...Germans! learn from the chinese :P:P

  • Wow It Looks Better Now Than It Did Before. Nice One Lol. I Do Like These Though

  • nice ingenierin

  • nice spelling, go back to school before you get on the road

  • better than an f150

  • god smart for2 is a goood for to be a car for 2!

  • wow that held up very well, and the engines in the back so besides the tridion safety cell not being able to replace everything else, should be easy. Although you could just buy a brand new one for 12 thousand dollars....

  • the engine is in the back?

  • yes and it's only 800cc

  • how many litres is that? and is it a 3-cylinder engine?

  • 0,8 litres 3 cylinder diesel commun-rail and 6 gear

  • yes the engine is located under the cargo floor.

  • It holds up a heck of a lot better than those Chinese minivans.

  • The car is broken though!

  • These cars are absolutely frigin' amazing.... that is AWESOME, the frame isn't even bent at all!!!!!!!!!!!

  • But your back and your nek will. lol I dont care I love my 4/2
