Happy Birthday Jason. How was Speed Racer? The movie was really windy, I also think for parts like that you should include subtitles. I personally couldn't really hear a lot from it all, but I'm sure it was all helpful information. LOL! Can't wait for more videos. Also Jason, after you're out of JET and if you continue to live in Japan, I think you should still do VLogs like this just to show us how you're doing and life outside of JET.
I just happen to find an old user name you used on a forum which I frequent. The user name is Logan5 from Outpostnine forums. There is a link to your blog in the profile. Hope you have a good one!
Haha, those were some funny guys. But I'm glad you asked such thought out questions, even though you are AMAZING for doing this vlog and helping everybody out, it's nice to get other points of view if you get what I mean.
You're great with comming up with good questions, Jasnon. It must be all that ELT experience! Does anyone out there with a bit more experience on cameras have a few tips to help cut out wind noise for Jason?
i knew it was windy and there might be a problem, but I was standing near a ledge and couldn't really position myself properly to cut down the wind - should be something I can correct in the future.
Interesting getting to hear from other JET's. (minus wind) I'll be going into my senior year and graduating with a BS, RN. I'm not sure if I'd do JET right away, before getting a year or two experience at a hospital. I guess it's never too late to attend JET. Do you see a nice mix of ages or mainly young people right out of college? Do you think they discriminate on age or get the idea that age is not a factor? After your time there how is your language proficiency and how fast did it progress?
most JETs are age 23-27. JETs over 30 are the minority, but not unusual. I don't think my students care if I'm 25, 30 or 35 - as long as I'm genki and fun, they don't care.
You could apply to be an SEA. SEAs (Sports Exchange Advisors) are placed in local authorities engaged in sports-related activities and are involved in internationalisation activities through the instruction of specific sports.
There aren't many of these jobs available and you have to be really, REALLY good at the sport you want to instruct.
Thank you for your time to reply:D I wish you could stay in Japan and teach History as well as English. I believe mix of culture is beneficial in the long run and moreover kids in our country needs fun teachers like you!
Shimane... I've probably asked this already but have you met helpmefindparents?
After living for about a year and a half in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, and then ten years in Tokyo, the boondocks do indeed provide a more authentic, wholesome experience.
I like Anton and Rob they sounded cool, and Steve just sounded like a future version of me which kinda scared me.

Yep - that's me. "Logan's Run" is my favorite sci-fi movie.
Thanks for the birthday shout-out.
Had dinner with friends, and watched Speed Racer.

lol that was an entertaining video. Anton's pretty small compared to everyone else around him XD. For a second I thought he was a student.

yeah - i wish I had more time to get more perspectives from other JETs, and I'll keep trying to coerce my friends into being on camera.

Can JETs become a club coach at the high schools? It would be nice if someone could teach American football to the kids in Japan.

I have one year left as a JET - my 5th and final year starts on July 28th.
After JET I'll either stay in Japan and get a different job or go back to America and get my masters and become a HS history teacher.
myargonauts 3 years ago
I heard that you can only be a JET for a certain amount of time. Is that true?

don't you have to renew your contract thing...
ayeyot1 3 years ago
yes - it's a maximum of 5 years, and you renew your contract every year on a year-to-year basis.
myargonauts 3 years ago
3 years. 5 years if you pass the level 4 JLPT. Unless if that has changed also, but they just extened it to 5 years.
