Warhol didn't produce shit, he found them the money to record the first album so they gave him credit as producer, Warhol then demanded having Nico in the band and illustrating the cover to Reed & Cale's dismay, they fired him right after that. The Velvet Underground existed and recorded before they met Warhol and continued to record and tour after they fired him.
