Hello, What is the difference between saying 'I took up the job' and 'i took over the job'.

take up means start for the first time
take over means take responsibility for something for another person, but says nothing about whether you are starting for the first time or not.
So when you take over you may be taking up something new, or you may just now be responsible for something you already have a lot of experience in.
