this is great about Soviet achievements and workclass but where i out country now? the Soviet Union is gone, all these glorious things are gone we need a new communist nation a new communist world
Whenever you strive to build a new society and a better future, do things never done before, mistakes will be made and there will be problems, but that doesn't take away from the nobility of the undertaking. The USSR's many triumphs are an example of what working people can achieve working together for the common good. Reactionaries can insult and spit on those accomplishments as much as they want, it doesn't mean they didn't happen.
The political philosophy of collectivism is based on a view of man as a congenital incompetent, a helpless, mindless creature who must be fooled and ruled by a special elite with some unspecified claim to superior wisdom and a lust for power."
Socialism is the only economical system that has the ability to emancipate all nations of the world and instill for the 1st time...genuine democracy. Like it or not....Marxism is not going way...EVER.
Socialism as a hybrid but communism/marxism doesn't work. The various failed communist revolutions around the world showed that. I agree with people that none of them were the idea of communism but it was the reality of what any attempt at communism will become. Because of the evils of humanity.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
communism sounds great on paper but like Anarchy, will never work. It starts out for the people and ends with one man on a power trip. Like clockwork
The Civil War was instigated by three main countries aligned against the Third International - USA, England and France - who financed and supplied a White Russian Imperialist counter-revolution against the new Soviet Union. It did not work. Their forces were defeated by the Red Army.
It is funny how fact spinning always worked for marxists. Those 3 were allies of Russian democratic government. They tried to help the lawful government forces of Russia to fight communists. They certainly did not start the civil war. Communists did that.
This is most common misconception about October revolution. The truth is that 6000 "revolutionary" soldiers, probably war deserters mostly, took over first in 1000 years Russian democratic government. It was done BY FORCE. Do you think it happened without violence? You must be delusional. Red terror campaign of 1918 on its own is evidence on the contrary. But again it goes well with lies and half-truths from the speaker in the video.
Name me any nation with very high number of immigrants and I'll show you a capitalist country. There's a reason that Cuba, North Korea, and Zimbabwe have virtually NOBODY trying to get in, and countless thousands trying (and often dying) to get out. Where are the world's poor immigrating to for a chance at a better life? the US, Canada, some prosperous Asian countries, and the EU. ALL of these are nations with varying degrees of relatively free markets.
ElCapitan327- During the socialist era, there were a "very high number of immigrants" in nearly ALL the socialist countries who were there to take advantage of the extremely high quality educational and hospital facilities, which were, by the way, free, unlike in the U.S.
you really believe that? please. also you still haven't explained to me where this terrifically successful socialist paradise went to. Smashing successes don't evaporate into thin air unless they are, in fact, deeply flawed. if the USSR's system hasn't been so absurdly backward it wouldn't have collapsed and died so humiliatingly. and look at Cuba they've been trying to get it to work for fifty years, and their people still drown every day trying to get to Florida. socialism is the ultimate joke
Socialism a joke? Well, China's economy has grown by 12% every year. It's down to 6.8% right now cause of the worldwide CAPITALIST economic crisis, but it's still double the growth rate of Germany and nearly triple the rate of the U.S. In fact, most economists in the west hope that China growth will pull the world economy out of the crisis. Imagine that! Capitalism saved by a socialist country- how embarrassing for people like you...
look at China's recent history. they did not start to become successful until the 1980's when they began to abandon socialism...China today is becoming wealthy because of an increasingly liberalized market that has spawned a whole new breed of Chinese capitalists...that is why this is the Chinese Century.
Way to de-contextualize! So how did China develop the industrial and agricultural basis for their economic growth? Did it just fall out of the sky ready-made? Methinks it was as a result of the preceding quarter-century of SOCIALIST economic planning! And btw, less than one quarter of the economy in in private hands, and even the private sector is heavily regulated and is also taken into account in state economic planning. Sorry to burst your little bubble like that, don't take it too hard
remember the "Great Leap Forward" of the 1960s? thousands of people starved to death due to the absurd inefficiencies of central planning. hence, in modern China you do not see mass deprivation on that level anymore. also despite the fact China is still very socialized, much of it's success has occured in spite of that because of immense natural and human resources. basically, China can to a certain extent survive it's own socialism. look at Zimbabwe who doesn't have those benefits...
Let me help you out with your facts for a minute because you're obviously having a hard time. The Great Leap Forward did not take place in the 1960's, it happened in 1958. There was some starvation during the GLF, but it had absolutely nothing to do with central planning or alleged inefficiency- it was due to massive flooding in southern China that devastated agricultural output for several years. During the period that the GLF took place, the national income average enjoyed an annual...
...growth rate of 4% between '52 and '66. Industrial and agricultural production grew at a rate of 14.4 and 1.4%, respectively. This rate of growth was achieved during a period in which the productive forces were at a very low level even compared to the China of the late '70's- in addition, the nation was still recovering from the civil war and it's contribution to the Korean War. The level of agricultural technology was quite low during this period. The only thing that changed was the...
...form of the social organization of production- the introduction of the People's Communes during the GLF. So it was actually collectivization and planning that increased production in that sector. Socialist forms of economic organization had not yet penetrated into every sector of the Chinese economy in the '50's. After the full collectivization of agriculture and the full implementation of national economic planning during the Cultural Revolution, national income averages as well as...
...industrial and agricultural production figures actually shot up dramatically. Unlike today, the growth in income and the huge upswing in production was accomplished without a concomitant growth in social inequality, in fact, the opposite was true. What currently plagues China- the growth of inequality- is one of the "benefits" of the partial re-introduction of market mechanisms into the socialist economy.
also if socialism works so well you would think in it's 70 year history the USSR could have gotten it to work. but alas...the Soviets crumbled like a the decayed house of cards they were. what about Zimbabwe? 1000% inflation rate. North Korea? let's not even go there. where is the success then? the US, Hong Kong, Ireland, the EU to a lesser extent...market-oriented economies. Nobody is banging down the doors to live in Pyongyang, yet they're still trying to raft from Cuba to Miami...
it's simply mind-blowing, and somewhat humorous, that after decades of failure of every socialist state that ever existed there are still a very small number of otherwise rational human beings (you guys) who can say with a straight face "socialism works". and yet people from "superior" socialist nations like Cuba and North Korea die every day risking their lives to escape their terrible situations.
What's even more mind-blowing is that you can make triumphalist statements like that with a totally straight face while the whole financial system and the housing market in the U.S. is in a state of complete and total collapse..!
and you know what's even MORE funny? that even when our economy is in a tailspin...even when everything is going to shit, our system is STILL...STILL the envy of the world. even in our worst hour, we're still the best. that's what's so great about free market economics. when we have a bad economic spell, we have some job losses, not mass starvation like socialist utopias such as North Korea
a joke here for everyone: A Soviet commissar goes to inspect the communes. The commissar asks a worker how the crops are doing. The worker says, "oh they are especially plentiful this year, comrade." Then the commissar asks about the potato harvest. The worker says, "comrade if you could put the potatoes into one pile, it would reach the feet of God." So the commissar says sternly, "Comrade, this is the Soviet Union, there is no God. The worker says, "That's ok there aren't any potatoes either."
Capitalism and communism are systems. The ones who are responsible for such cruelty are us, people. Not system. If you start to compare two systems...well...it is useless. Neither system is protected from killining. Exalting communism? O.K., then. Explain to me why so many people of Baltic states were exiled to Syberia and russians were colonized, when communism declares equalty to all of people?
In our capitalist world more than 10 million innocent children die each year as a result of capitalism-induced malnutrition. The people killed by communists are very few in number by comparison and are those who deliberately stand in the way of moving society forward so it can offer a decent life to everyone. You try to defend capitalism by implying that it is blood free or at least not as bad as communism. Nothing could be worse than capitalism in its death throes. Look at Gaza, for a start!
how can you stand there and defend the atrocities made in the name of communism siimply because they were less than that of capitalism. Any ideology which needs to kill in order to function is automaticly dangerous and is never worth implementing. Also people should never be killed no matter what they have done and i think you will find marx himself agreed with this
"People should never be killed no matter what they have done and I think you will find Marx himself agreed with this." No he didn't. Marx belived that the workers and their allies should do whatever was in their power to defend a sucessful seizure of state power from counterrevolution. In fact, he criticized the communards (from the Paris commune) for not going after the counterrevolutionaries in a more forceful way.
really, capitalism causes starvation? can you please explain why the socialist system of North Korea has made it's people so malnourished the average height of a North Korean is 4 inches shorter than a citizen of the capitalist south? How about the hyper-inflation caused by Mugabe's government in Zimbabwe that has made even bread so expensive most people must resort to the illegal underground black market? (read: free market)
'the french got rid of one system of explotation and replaced it with another'. - so did the bloody october revolution. Bloody marxism dosent work and only works when people are oppresed. This guy is living in a dreamworld, so many people died from the collective farm plans. Communism was a 20th cenury political experiment that dailed. Communism simply try to make everyone equal, just ended up with some people being more equal than most.
trigga1uk- Right. So now in Russia we're back to the most wonderful economic and social system the world has ever known, capitalism. Look at all the great things (unknown to people during the socialist era) that capitalism has brought to Russia: unemployment, homelessness, de-industrialization, prostitution, racism, fascism and the most precipitious drop in living standards (in the shortest period) that history has ever seen. I think it's capitalism that failed the experiment...
this isnt the fault of capitalism, it is the sudden free for all that occurs when oppresive systems breakdown. Ive heard many russians want communism back but it is because of the sudden stop that occured rather than a gradual transistion.
So what kind of society would that "gradual transition" be easing people into? A more egalitarian one? Marxism-Leninism is a scientific ideology that doesn't allow any room for Catholic-inspired ideas like the concept of an economic purgatory that is neither capitalist nor socialist like your "free for all" idea. What class rules in a "free for all" economic system? After the counterrevolutionary overthrow of socialism, Russia was about as capitalist as you can get.
china: they are undergoing an obvious change from a rigid communist system and it was not done in the same way as in russia. Russians are unfortunately very brutal and hard people, like much of eastern europe. The systems they have endured are the cause of this. Russia is now the very worse of capitalism with rampant corruption. But after the strict system they have had governing them it is no suprise.
I agree that Russia has some very real problems that are endemic to capitalism, and you're right, it's very corrupt. However, I have a hard time believing in the concept of uniform national characteristics, that's the slippery slope into racism.
And China? China will always be a socialist country. Less than a quarter of the economy is in private hands, and foriegn corporations are heavily regulated- China is the only place in the world where Wal-Mart workers actually have a union.
Many people over the years worked hard to keep the USSR alive, and many good and excellent things came from it, but she has died. However, like a phoenix; a united socialist republics can rise from the ashes.
Take what we can from the USSR and Trotsky and everyone ever connected with our cause and fix all the negatives moving forward as one voice against the capitalists.
the communist movement does however need to acknowledge the mistakes of the past i mean look at this video its completely blind to the facts of the horrors inequality and worst of all tyranny of the USSR
I agree, there needs to be a tally of mistakes, and debate how to correct them. In therapy the hardest thing to do is admit you have a problem. Well, I'm one commie socialist that says we have a big problem. I believe in Trotsky, but do i think he did everything right? No. However, if socialism in one country and other Stalinist ideas are not turned out for what they are; mistakes, we can never move forward. I would like to see that fascist in Russia gone and a Workers state restored...
However, we can not restore the revolution until we realize our mistakes and fix them. One of the biggest is sectarianism. If someone wants to be a Stalinist, but accept his shortcomings, then we could all be united. Union comrades, only that will once and for all destroy the capitalist state, and this is coming from the USA, the front lines in the battle against capitalism.
To those that have blocked out my very comradely remarks about forging ahead for the 21st century, I feel sorry for you. I am a Marxist-Leninist, a true one; who remains faithful to Lenin's desire not only for Permanent Revolution, but for Trotsky, who saw the hell Stalin was trying to create and tried to stop him. That aside, both are gone, and we should forget about the past and move ahead.
I don't know. I think we should look at history and make sure we correct things that went wrong or else we might end up making the same mistakes from before.
the october revolution was not an end of exploitation the part members and high ranking officials all had better living standards than the rest of the population in the USSR O_o
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
There were positives about the USSR, but anyone who embraces socialism in one country is a fool. Trotsky and the Permanent revolution were the correct path. That said, we should take the best of the theories and move on, because times have changed, we need new communist theorists to take us into the 21st century.
back then trotsky was wrong but he didnt deserve to be killed. I am a communist and i belive that Communism needs a new persona look up New Wave Communism.
my god what kind of fascists call themselves communists these days they've blocked your comments because you disagree with them and don't stick to stalinist philosophy yes communism does need a 21st century philosophy all political philosophies must change some time as society changes
Thank you for that My Anarchist Comrade. I may be a Marxist, but we need to heal old wounds and have a multi-tendency party. One which includes Trotskyists, Anarchists, Communists, Socialists, Ect ect
exactly most of the people calling themselves communists here are simply stalinist/fascists who see their own views as supreme and wish death upon any who oppose them. These are the king of people who have created a negative image for communism one that is likened to Nazi Germany and the Khmer Rouge instead of a stateless egalitarian Utopia

t1201971 3 years ago
you'll have to tell me what i said i haven't looked a this video for a while?

I think it's capitalism that failed the experiment...
t1201971 3 years ago 2
this isnt the fault of capitalism, it is the sudden free for all that occurs when oppresive systems breakdown. Ive heard many russians want communism back but it is because of the sudden stop that occured rather than a gradual transistion.
trigga1uk 3 years ago

But after the strict system they have had governing them it is no suprise.
trigga1uk 3 years ago

Take what we can from the USSR and Trotsky and everyone ever connected with our cause and fix all the negatives moving forward as one voice against the capitalists.
amsterdam78 3 years ago
the communist movement does however need to acknowledge the mistakes of the past i mean look at this video its completely blind to the facts of the horrors inequality and worst of all tyranny of the USSR
AnarchistInTheUK 3 years ago
I agree, there needs to be a tally of mistakes, and debate how to correct them. In therapy the hardest thing to do is admit you have a problem. Well, I'm one commie socialist that says we have a big problem. I believe in Trotsky, but do i think he did everything right? No. However, if socialism in one country and other Stalinist ideas are not turned out for what they are; mistakes, we can never move forward. I would like to see that fascist in Russia gone and a Workers state restored...
amsterdam78 3 years ago

That aside, both are gone, and we should forget about the past and move ahead.
amsterdam78 3 years ago
I don't know. I think we should look at history and make sure we correct things that went wrong or else we might end up making the same mistakes from before.
Mabuza14 3 years ago
also are we forgetting the millions who were killed in genocides and the thousands of political prisoners and executions?
AnarchistInTheUK 3 years ago
the october revolution was not an end of exploitation the part members and high ranking officials all had better living standards than the rest of the population in the USSR O_o

What Harpal Brar says about the Soviet Union is very correctly.
We need a new socialist revolution all over the world. I hope, that the bolivarian revolution in Venezuela can develop to a socialist society.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
There were positives about the USSR, but anyone who embraces socialism in one country is a fool. Trotsky and the Permanent revolution were the correct path. That said, we should take the best of the theories and move on, because times have changed, we need new communist theorists to take us into the 21st century.
amsterdam78 3 years ago
back then trotsky was wrong but he didnt deserve to be killed. I am a communist and i belive that Communism needs a new persona look up New Wave Communism.
shuggy1991 3 years ago
my god what kind of fascists call themselves communists these days they've blocked your comments because you disagree with them and don't stick to stalinist philosophy yes communism does need a 21st century philosophy all political philosophies must change some time as society changes
AnarchistInTheUK 3 years ago
Thank you for that My Anarchist Comrade. I may be a Marxist, but we need to heal old wounds and have a multi-tendency party. One which includes Trotskyists, Anarchists, Communists, Socialists, Ect ect
amsterdam78 3 years ago
exactly most of the people calling themselves communists here are simply stalinist/fascists who see their own views as supreme and wish death upon any who oppose them. These are the king of people who have created a negative image for communism one that is likened to Nazi Germany and the Khmer Rouge instead of a stateless egalitarian Utopia
