1999 South Street ,fat duesday riot in Philadelphia was much much rowdier that this. I attended both. Cops were going a buck wild in 1999. South street got trashed, news vans were getting flipped, cars burned, stores trashed. I think Philly World series, was pretty calm.

If people cared as much about their government as they did their precious sports teams, we might be able to reach a "Utopian" society.
I'd rather see a ban on sports than on firearms.
I think the "assembly" and "partying" are not called for. This is why so many people think sports fans are just barely removed from animals. I would be that many of the players are embarrassed to have these people as "fans". It's just an excuse to act as a hoodlum and get away with it.

That aspect of sports is admirable, but it often stinks the same as nationalism. A person who loves something merely because it is where they live or are from, not what it stands for, is a fool. If there are specific reasons people like a sports team, then I understand, but if it is just for bragging rights or to be a "winner", it is a waste of time and the people should find something worthy of which to be proud.

To all preaching against the government, This wasn't a major riot, hundreds of thousands of people were allowed to take to the streets in designated areas, at the time of this video people were out for over 2 hours. Most people were well behaved. But at this point they were trying to scale down the partying.

this is funny. i am sure there are some real tough guys among the 50 or so police, but the majority are overweight-out of shape- probably stupid. add to that the midgets among them-the women- and you have a very large joke. they are ok so long as people respect the badge. beating up women and generally acting like thugs, removes this respect. if there does come a serious riot with shooting, they will be called out of the situation just as gates did in l.a. during the rodney king riot.

in response to your question dallasblows as i said those ppl were my brother and his girlfriend and i can honestly say they weren't doing anything other than standing and yelling go phils...however riot police were already pissed about ppl breaking stuff and throwing bottles so they wanted to exercise their "force". and they and I are true phillies fans. so we have the right to celebrate. its been 25 years. but i understand why the cops were pissed due to some ppls stupidity and violence.
