Well you see, planes actually make trips exponentially faster thus saving you time. I can run faster than this contraption and in the end have nothing to stow, charge or carry around. So yes, its pretty useless.

The idea is really cool, I'd love to have something like this, though it leaves the rider looking rather awkward. Having your hands hanging by your side the entire time looks kind've odd, but I wouldn't want to put my hands in my pockets in case it fell over... It might just be me though, my hands always have to be doing something

I have a Segway to, and am interested.

But take notice of the extreme flat underground the Solowheel is riding in this vid.

With some training, on the Segway, You can ride over obstacles up to about 4 inch (10cm) (and higher if You have the X2) I think You'll have to get of the thing when the ground is not totally flat.

I'll have a test ride with the YikeBike in short. That's probably more handy to ride and carry around.

Great video demonstration. I have a Segway, and love it, but have been looking for something more compact for subways and busses (in addition, not as a replacement). Thanks for showing the city areas. I live in NYC, so that gives me an idea of what the 'glide' would be like here.
