So much false information about Catholics. For example his presentation of purgatory as a second chance. Catholics believe all persons in purgatory are saved. They are redeemed. It is not a second chance to get to heaven. How can he say false things like this? Is he lying or is he ignorant?
let me be clear, one is not a bigot because of saying stern things about the catholics or any other, one is shown a bigot by his manner, and also certainly by his use of any truths he might speak,
I would be delighted if MAc ever spoke of thr bibliolatry of us protestants , of our unbelief, our hypocrisy, our legalism.
if he acknowledged these things it would change his manner completely.
so he has nothing to distinguish him from protestant bigots of centuries past
catholics deny certain biblical doctrines, they deny them explicitly, but we protestants, by our fruit show that we do not believe these self same biblical doctrines.
so what is the difference?
catholics hold the trinity the resurrection etc. so do we. we deny the others by our lives, catholics deny them by precept,
if there were nothing more loving than the truth the Bible woulds not have bothered saying "speak the truth in love" for if they spoke the truth it would follow that they spoke in love.
I am sick and tired of the hypocrisy of evangelicals, full of their own bigotry, who think that truth is their licence for their arrogant manner.
and Macarthurs manner is arrogant.
he moves into hectoring sarcasm very quickly, and totally lacks the insight to his own sin that any man of God should have
Some of the Evangelical leaders who were with MacArthur at the conference left calling MacArthur "cultic" because MacArthur insisted those who believed in the historic doctrine of infant baptism were not Christians. J.I.Packer has walked with Christ for decades was horiffied at MacArthurs attitude toward Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans. Cultic I think was the term he used to describe MacArthurs anitchristian, antibiblical ideas.
the mark of the beast is basically keeping the sunday instead of saturday as the God's day of worship &rest, I didn’t believe it but it’s in the Bible..the pope under the cover of NWO is misleading the people to think that it’s a simple chipXD
The pope is the beast of Rev13 and the vatican is the harlot church of Rev17. The pope changed the sabbath day to sunday a pagan satanic day,he gave orders to torture and kill the true christians in the dark ages 50 million in total,he called himself JESUS SUBSTITUE vicarus filii dei which is what the prophet daniel said the anti christ would dare to claim about himself. Rev17 says the harlot church sits with the anti christ on the city which lays on seven hills ROME. Put it together JESUSLOVESU
Below I want to correct my post below. Jesus Christ is the ROCK. "......O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." Isaiah 19:14. He's our Rock of Savation. Psalm 95:1.......Jesus Christ is building His Church upon HIMSELF - NOT Peter. Jesus is the ALMIGHTY. Revelation 1:7-8. Thank you, Blaze25z
Lets see here......all of those in purgatory are saved people. According to Catholicism. Every person in purgatory is saved and destined for heaven. Every person in purgatory is saved forever. MacArthur seems not to recognize this....It is in no way a "second chance" Why does he say this? Is it ignorance or is it conscious deception?
@prairiemark ""....man is destined to die once, then face JUDGMENT...." Hebrews 9:27 If you do NOT accept Jesus Christ as your ONLY Lord & Savior before you die, you go to Hell. Purgatory is MADE UP.....not Biblical, so if you think you can pray for unsaved loved ones, pray them out of purgatory, you're mistaken. They are in HELL. I shudder to think about how many precious people are in Hell because of this false teaching, from popes, priests, nuns, ordinary people......WORSHIP JESUS ONLY!
This man knows nothing about Roman Catholicism. This is the worst straw man attack I've heard in years. Prejudice and poor understanding blind this man. Jesus Christ himself established His Church with an administrative authority we must submit to. This same Church is how He chooses to poor out His grace on His people. Attacking the sacraments is an attack on the love of Jesus. God help this man to see. May Our Lady lead him to Her Son. Papa diu vivere

The sacraments including the eucharist are so wonderful, and mystery our not just communion but also union with Christ. I still respect and consider Protestants as brothers but many Protestant churches have made the sacrament a very common thing. In some of these churches I felt like I was in a theatre not Church. I don't want to offend anyone but I was fed up with all these dictatorships and theatrical actions in some of these right wing fundamentalism!
Of course, McArthur will say they just went to hell! sure! And yes before the Reformation the Catholic Church and the Papacy made grave mistakes, which the Church admits and has asked for forgiveness from all peoples. About the celibacy again, it's not totally true. Anglicans and Lutherans or other married Ministers have become Catholic priests, and they have not divorce. I was told I can preach in the Church if I become a deacon and keep my marriage.
Mary and Saints are not dead. They hear us and see us. We are one family with them. Purgatory is not a safety net but God's grace. My dad was Atheist/Muslim and also he said he believes Jesus too. He was a good man and a product of his won country and system. So what just because he didn't come to my church or confess like I do he should go to hell?! How'bout millions of people who never heard of Jesus but in their hearts they were open to God and good to others as much as they could?
McArthur is saying Catholics worship Mary. NO, Sir, they give her the due respect, the Bible proclaims, believers will do. And yes she is the Mother of God, or you don't believe that Jesus is God?? Or that Jesus has two natures. It is true she only gave a beginning to Jesus' human nature but it God through her womb came to this earth. The catholics are asking the saints and Mary to intercede for them not answer their prayers. Don't you ask brothers or sisters today to pray for you??
McArthur is right wing fundamentalist, which I am sick. It was these fundamentalists who supported Bush to attack Irak. I was a protestant, who by the way converted from Muslim to Christianity. I was in one such right wing Church. It is in fact people in these churches who guilt ridden and always under the dictatorship of the leader. Praise God I am a Catholic now, let me tell you friends, how much freedom I have now. Not to sin oh no, God forbid, but it is a real freedom!!!!!!!!!!
30,000 denominations? Well, since there are so many denominations, can you please name me 40 denominations? Lastly, there may have different denominations, but all the denominations(Baptist, Luthern, Presbyterian, etc) agree on the core issues such as "Sola scriptura" and salvation by grace and faith alone and not of works.
@1979jdw google it im sure you'll find the many denominations i mentioned. And plz interpret John 6:52-58...and all that stuff about Mary, you should check Martin Luther's theology on that, the man responsible for the protestant reformation in the first place. But his theology died out, why? because it is not led by the holy spirit and is prone to error, the teachings of the Catholic Church are not.
@1979jdw and its good that these denominations agree on core issue, but what about other issues, they just have different opinions do they? can you not see what is in front of your eyes, and that division in Christians is not what Christ wants. He only has one truth. Btw, all the books of the bible (including the one the protestants have taken out) were sanctioned by the Catholic Church. The council of Rome in 382.
Sorry John but you are wrong about the Catholic Church. I have read through the entire Bible over 30 times and have memorized over 2,000 verses; I have studied both scripture and the teachings of the Catholic Church and I find the Catholic Church to be correct.
@rldlol have you studied scripture according to catholic theology, or with an open mind, i have looked at catholic doctrine, and almost immediately i saw a huge contradiction to true scripture. and you can read the bible 10,000 times but its no use to you if your not spiritually inspired. and please back up your support for catholic teaching with scripture.
@springbokbullietjie visit catholicscomehome . org...theres a nice section for protestants to show them what the Church actually teaches. Perhaps you should research Catholic doctrine with an open mind instead of one trying to find flaws. Heck i can find things in the Bible that seem contradictory and dumb, doesnt mean that they are.
Thanks Brother John, for exposing the TRUTH of God's Word! Only those who trust in God's Work thru His Son, Jesus is saved! I was a Roman Catholic for 39 years and I KNOW they teach a faith+works salvation! NO one can trump or out do God by sending His Son to pay the price and justify us by His work on the cross! TRUE Christians must stand up for Christ alone! His justification, His free gift of salvation! Catholics; READ the Bible! Rom. 3:10,23-24, Rom., 4, Ephesians 2:8,9, John 3:3, 16,
@rtarasiak You apparantly were not catechized properly. If you read the Council of Trent specifically, you will find concerning justification that the Catholic Church believes we are saved by grace alone, not faith alone; faith and works being God's required responses to His free, unmerited gift of salvation. The notion that the Church teaches a work-based salvation is a misunderstanding. Read Romans Ch. 2, James 2:24
The reason I know my interpretation is correct is because I read the bible in context of what is being written. Secondly, I will also go back to the Greek or Hebrew translation just to make sure my interpretation is sound. Understand, the bible is not a riddle like the Catholic church makes it out to be. The reason they don't want you reading or interpreting scripture is because they know once you do, their false doctrines will be exposed and their power will crumble( i.e. reformation)
@1979jdw forget it...u just dont understand the meaning of authority and one truth......which is why christians are nicely divided for the whole world to laugh at. 30000+ denominations....ohh are we ever the united body of Christ. By the way, interpret John 6:52-58.
Authority is good, but when that authority puts forth doctrine that is in clear violation of scripture(i.e Mary Co-Mediator or Co-Redeemer), then we must embrace the word and shun the opinions of man, regardless of who propagates it. Lastly, you don't need a PHD to understand scripture, there are many verses that are very easily understood.(i.e 1 Tim 2:5) "There is only one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus".....How would you interrupt that verse? It seems pretty clear...
Yes, it was Peters declaration "You are the Christ" that Jesus said he was going to build his church on. In no way was Jesus ordaining Peter as the head of the church, but stating that Peters confession was the foundation on which his(jesus) church would be built.
I was listening to John. When I reached the 6minute and 30 sec mark, I heard enough to know that his statements about the Pope, Catholic as worshippers of saints, Catholics guilty of placing Mary above Jesus and God. I've heard enough and was totally convinved that he got it ALL WRONG. I'm sorry. I don't you John personally. I have studied enough about my Catholic faith to know clearly that John MacArthur is clearly and simply wrong. He simply chooses not to believe. Very Charismatic but WRONG.
I grew up in a Catholic home, and I have come to the conclusion that there is a falseness in this religion. I go on a utube website about stigmata and Padre Pio, and if anyone knows about him, he was a priest who bore the marks of Christ. Many of the comments are in complete awe of his works and when I mention that Christ is the only one who could bear those marks of the cross, I get anger. Even the worship of Mary, more angry remarks. Does anyone have any idea about stigmata in these saints.
The problem of equating scripture and tradition as equal is that the Catholic church can create doctrine even though it is not found in scripture. That creates a big problem, because if the bible says one thing "Jesus is mediator (1 Timothy 2:5)" and the church says another thing "Mary co-mediator(Tradition)", then who is right? Should we put our faith in scripture or should we put our faith in man's tradition? God's word is infallible, but man is fallible...(i.e traditions)
@1979jdw Maaaaaan. Read Peters declaration of Jesus. Jesus says, Flesh and blood have not revealed this to you but my Father in heaven! This is right before Peter is entrusted with Jesus' Church! Seriously if God's word is infallible, why are so many in disagreement about it! I think God's word is infallible, but taken only in the right context. God has to have authority here so we know which context to take it in, thats why we have the Catholic Church so we can be united in Christ!!!
@1979jdw And when i was referring to ignorance, i was not talking about research that you may have done on the Church. I am talking about interpreting scripture. How can you know for sure that you are interpreting scripture in the RIGHT way. Jesus gave us the Truth, this is where authority has to come into play. He did not want us scattered, divided, leaderless. He wanted us to be united in the body of Christ that is the Church. Visit catholicscomehome. org plzzz
Trust me, I'm not making comments about the Catholic church in ignorance, I have read the "Council of Trent" and "Vatican Council 2". It is because I have read these documents that I make these comments. The doctrine of Co-mediator and Co-redeemer are found in these writings and there is no scripture to support them. Lastly, they admit it is "Tradition", but they claim tradition is equal to scripture. So if you can't find supporting scriptures, they say it's tradition(I.e Mary Co-Mediator)
Your statement "We don't know the bible enough as we should" should be your first warning and red flag. I would recommend that you first read the bible and compare what the bible says with what Catholic doctrine says before you defend their positions. Again, if you read the bible you would see that calling Mary Co-mediator or Co-redeemer is blatant blasphemy. Only Jesus is worthy of the title redeemer, mediator, savior....Why? Because he died upon the cross, not Mary.
Your definition of authority is blind allegiance to the opinion and interpretations of one man(i.e Pope). Which they have clearly demonstrated in the past and even now their clear ignorance of scripture(i.e Mary Co-mediator). Why would anybody put their faith in Catholic doctrine who's tradition violates the scriptures? Why do you believe you are so ignorant that you can't understand scripture for yourself. The bible is not a riddle, have more faith in yourself and read the bible.
So you think the Catholic church penned the bible? The bible was organized in 400 AD, how do you think the early christians received the word? They received it by circulating gospels and epistles between the churches. What amazes me is Catholics like to champion the creation of the bible, but don't even know what it says.
@1979jdw u missed the point and do not understand authority at all. Which is why your pride will get in ur way when it comes to the fullness of the truth. U say the bible says this, the bible says that, once again how do you know you are right!!? You dont, and someone thats protestant probably disagrees with you on some verses, but hey as long as you both kinda get some of the truth right, the fullnes is there in the Church, look for it without prejudice.
@desouzaj ....Friend, I'm not trying to bash you or offend you, I'm only trying to throw you a life line of truth. You are capable of understanding scripture my friend and God wants you to know his truth, but that is only find in the bible. All I ask is that you compare what Catholic doctrine states to what the bible states and I'm sure through careful and sincere study that you will see that Catholic doctrine is open violation to Gods word. God Bless you friend!!
@1979jdw One, i said Catholics as a whole not myself, though i still need more ofcourse. Two i never said i couldnt understand the bibile, but there are verses that are difficult to interpret, A wrong interpretation and theres an ignorance that i dont even know about. And if u want to know the relationship between the bible and catholic doctrine, catholicscomehome. org. Where scripture is referenced consistently to prove Catholic doctrine.
@1979jdw And you are right to some extent, Catholics do not know the bible well enough as we should. There is room for a great deal of improvement. Once again, we should love and honour Mary, why? She lived the way we all want to live, with Jesus inside of us. Look when you see it from the outside, i can understand why you think catholics worship Mary, But it is not true that we worship her. And, asking for prayers from Saints, Mary, Angels, family, friends,...more prayers towards God, not less
Calling Mary Co-redeemer or Co-Mediator is not honoring her, but blaspheming God the Father. Building statues to her around world and adorning these statutes with crowns and laying prostrate before her statue is a far cry from honoring her and nothing more than Mary worship. Do you realize that only God is worthy of such worship and adoration? I have lived in South America and seen the processions of Mary, it is not honor, but open worship.
Where in the bible does it say we are to ask dead people to pray for us? Where does it instruct us to pray to angels and ask for help? Where does the bible say we should pray or ask mary to pray for us? Again, this nothing more than man made tradition that is not biblical and takes people away from praying to the one true God who is worthy of our prayers and worship.
Yes, the Holy Spirit empowers believers to understand the bible. For the Catholic church to say they are the only ones capable of interpreting scripture is absolute non-sense and they only make this claim to make sure nobody dares challenge their authority. Lastly, the Catholic church knows once people start reading the bible for themselves they will clearly see blasphemies of the Catholic churches teachings. For example, where does the doctrine of Mary being Co-redeemer in the bible?
@1979jdw ohhhh man....will u please answer me why protestants dont agree with each other on every bible verse? Protestants agree with Catholics on some bible verses, so many of macaruthurs teachings are similar to catholicism. With regards to Mary...this is one that astonishes me. The one who literally had Jesus living within her, and you cannot find it within yourself to understand why the Church honours her and holds her in high regard. There is a reason God chose Mary to bear Jesus.
@1979jdw Mary is the second most powerful behind the Trinity. She and all the saints and angels that you think we "worship", but really we honour, we ask for their prayers the same way we ask for each others prayers. Prayers to whom? To God ONLY. Try and take a closer look at Catholic teachings before you jump at the stereotypes and become completely immersed by them and think you understand what the Church is really about.
@1979jdw And once again...the reason there is AUTHORITY is because if we didnt have it, then we would all disagree and become divided (33 000+ denominations of Christianity) instead of being united in Christ, the way the Holy Scriptures talk about. And yes, the Church that created the bible definitely created scriptures so that everyone could figure out that the Church is actually a big heresy....lol cmon, ask yourself, where does the bible come from, why are we divided?? Thanks for the debate.
Your comparisons of a photo on the wall and someone laying prostrate before a statute is a far cry from honoring. I do not light candles to photos on my wall, I do not lay prostrate to photos on my wall, and I certainly do not kneel to pictures on my wall. This is just typical Catholic whitewash speech to cover up their blatant and obivous idol worship.
Thanks for the upload and for shining a light on this issue. Most people think Catholics and Protestants are just a couple shades of red in difference, but it is clearly apples and bolts.
Thank you John for exposing the true blasphemies of the Catholic cult. They are nothing more than the "Mystery Babylon, Mother of Harlots" of Rev 17 and their destruction is soon coming.
@1979jdw Dr. MacArthur did hit the nail on the head with this very brief overview of Roman Catholic teaching. Most Roman Catholics who view this video do not realize this is only an `overview`, not by any means an indepth study of the subject, which causes many RC`s to go off the deep end.
'The Reformation was "a devastation of England, which was at the time when this event took place, the Happiest country, that the world had ever seen; but Afterwards marched on plundering and inflicting torments on the people, and shedding their innocent blood; hospitals and other religious foundations were confiscated by the Reformers and Jews, who brought to England the misery of Pauperism "
-William Cobbett, ProtestantAuthor 'A History of the Protestant Reformation in England and Ireland
@Blaze25z J.I. Packer, Charles Colson, Bill Bright.....if they all you call to task for defining Christians out of the Kingdom and are concerned that your beliefs are cultic...then I think you should consider what they say.
@1979jdw I think you might want to youtube Walid SHoebat on your views on who the Harlot is or Mystery Babylon, I think you are on the correct path but the path veered too far north in the mediteranian, So check out Walid Shoebat's videos to help your get a more claer definiton of the Harlot, not that Catholocism is not similiar, but there is a clearer picture available, in this day and age.
MARY ABOVE CHRIST AND EVEN GOD.....this is the worst summary of roman catholicism, i stopped listening after that...honestly i used to respect him, lol a lot of his teachings sound exactly Catholic, but ppl are right, everyone that is not Christian must be laughing at us, Christ gives us the One Catholic Church...and now because of pride and arguing, wer divided into 33000 denominations where one person cannot agree with another, if u only had the fullnes of faith john macarthur
@Gideon6640man It is heresy because none of those Protestant even follow each other. If Luther is so exalted upon the Protestant, then why do you reject the sinlessness of Mary with Luther believed in. Because you go by the supposed wisdom of the Protestant reformers that swear to be talking on behalf of God with no authority whatsoever.
@sgal88 ..........Where in the bible does it say we are to bow, lay prostrate, or genuflect to Mary? This is nothing more than idol worship which the bible forbids. Also, where does it state in the bible that Mary is Co-redeemer to Christ? The bible is very clear, "I'm(Jesus) the way, the truth, and the life and NO ONE comes to the father except by ME(Jesus). The reality is the Roman Catholic church is mystery Babylon the great mentioned in Rev 17 and her judgment is coming.
@sgal88 .........No, it weaken their control over you and your ability to know the truth. Of course they are going to tell you not to listen to protestants or bible believers, they want to keep you in blindness. Isn't it suspicious they don't want you to read the bible? Isn't it suspicious that it was considered an anathema(eternal damnation) for even having a bible? Why is that? It is clear, they want to keep you in darkness to their obvious blasphemies...
@1979jdw You are soo ignorant. It was never an anathema to use a Bible but to read a Bible from a translator who was Protestant because they perverted the gospels. The Church has not blinded me but has confirmed itself over and over again. You wish to remain blinded, that is your consequence but you will be surely sorry for doing so.
@sgal88 Let me give you an example of the blatant blasphemies of the Catholic church, here is a statement from Vatican II.... "that by means of the images which we kiss and before which we uncover the head and PROSTRATE ourselves, we adore Christ and venerate the saints whose likeness they bear, anyone should teach or maintain anything contrary to these decrees, let him be anathema." ....What does the bible say about laying prostrate to statues? The 2nd commandment comes to mind..
@desouzaj .............So Christ instructed us to bow or lay prostrate to statues of Mary? Did Christ say Mary was Co-redeemer? No my friend, Christ did NOT give us Catholicism, these teachings are forbidden by the word of God and blasphemous....
@1979jdw alright...where did the bible come from. When anti-catholic Christians understand the difference between honour/veneration and worship, what a day that will be. When you kneel by the grave of a lost loved one or cry and look at pictures of lost loved ones, are you worshipping them...no. These teachings of the Church are not forbidden, only if the Word is taken out of context will it be that way. Thats why we dont have one Church. Cuz protestants cannot understand authority...(Part 1)
@1979jdw (part 2) Thats why there is 33000 denominations, protestants do not agree with each other on so many accounts and everyone can start their own Church.Im sure we can argue for days, but think about authority and knowing whose interpretation of the bible you can trust. There are millions of interpretations for many bible verses.Which one is right? The one led by the Holy Spirit, declared by Jesus, Matthew 16:17-18.
Jesus said something "don't judge so that you won't be judge..." Satan is laughing at Christianity today because they can't seem to love and forgive each other. Christians including Catholics are fighting and saying bad things to each other . . . hahaha common guys wake up. Is that your religion??? you must be ashamed of yourself . . . love one another, be your brothers' keeper.
Just to clarify the works are not about "buying" your way into heaven. It's about letting God's grace transform you into the person that Christ wants you to be. Read the gospels he said in matthew 16: 27 he will pay every man according to his conduct and in matthew 25:31-45. in barney style he basically says if you don't help one another then you will go to hell. you got to do the good works to allow christ to change you, saying a phrase one time in your life is NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
wow. he really needs to read the bible again. Did you not read the scripture where Jesus said unless you eat my flesh & drink my blood you will have no life within you? Did you not read where he said to his apostles receive the Holy Spirit whose sins you forgive are forgiven and whose sins you retain are retained? Did you not read where Jesus said when you did so for the least of your brothers then you did it for me? James follows it up as well, just as the soul without the body is dead so is
@mandaloreJCL faith without good works. As for relics read acts19:11. If anyone tries to argue the meaning of do this in remembrance of me then let me silence that one. ἀνάμνησιν is the Greek word in the original text that is translated as remembrance or commemoration. Here is the literal interpretation to bring this action back to life. However if you write it out like that in English then people won't understand it. to break things down barney style read the catechism, WE DO NOT WORSHIP SAINTS
@mandaloreJCL part 3: FYI purgatory is not a second chance. It is a place to purify the soul from any remaining sins that have not been repented in life because nothing unclean can stand before God. It only purifies venial sins, mortal sins however, that were not repented in life destroys the life of grace and separates a person from God. read 1 john 5:16-17. Now did you read where Jesus says to peter alone 3 times feed my sheep? Don't say it was just for peter to make up for his denial
@mandaloreJCL part4: b/c if that's the sole reason then he should've chewed out all of the apostles b/c all of them abandoned him. Jesus gave peter the keys of the kingdom in Matt 16:18-19. did you notice in Acts that Peter generally spoke for the group. There is some obvious signs he was the leader. When i last checked even protestants can't agree with each other on how to worship, note the 33000 different denominations, each is a denoted version of the other.
LOL ! Whenever I hear John MacArthur preach I am reminded of 2 Corinthians 11 : 13-15. "For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their ends will be what their actions deserve."
I have been to the Philippines for missionary work.... The do in fact worship Mary as mother of God and "Queen of Heaven".. one lady told me.. "I do not want you in my house because you have no faith in Mary. it is not true in all of catholicism, but it is very true amongst primitive areas. The 400 year old cathedral i visited there had a mosaic on the ceiling that pictured Peter and JESUS setting a crown on Mary's head as if she was given all power in heaven..I think even Mary is sickened by it
@armystrong3305 The Phillippines do not worship Mary, neither do Catholics. The fact that a lady told you to leave your house because of that would be synonymous to an atheist preaching that there is no God. The heresy of Protestanism is dangerous and leads one astray.
@armystrong3305 They are in error and in danger of excommunication. If you read the Catechism, you will find that there is not a single dogmatic teaching neither in scripture nor in the traditions of the apostolic fathers that propagate that the Catholic Church worships Mary.
There is nothing more biblical then the church tha cannoized the bible in 393 A.D., that is, the Catholic church, the mother of all churches. Anyone who speaks down on the mother, has forsaken the faith and is worse then the worse an unbeliever.
When Benedict XVI dies there will be another pope to succeed him, and another, and another, until the end of time. Each of them will demonstrate to those with open minds and hearts that, yes, the pope does teach the gospel.
Grace to You is built around one man. It may have many employees, but when John MacArthur dies, his ministry will die. His flock will scatter, taking with them the silly prejudices he has imbued them with
The Grace to You ministry's letterhead has this slogan at the bottom: "The Bible Teaching of John MacArthur." Benedict XVI is more modest in his claims. His letterhead does not have at the bottom "The Bible Teaching of Benedict XVI" because the Pope is not trying to push his own agenda.
Each Sunday 7,000 people attend MacArthur's church. This is what he tells them about an institution that was around for nineteen centuries before he was born and that is now headed by a man who shows not a hint of MacArthur's arrogance.
I really appreciate John MacArthur and his steadfastness to interpret and present the biblical truth found in the scriptures of the holy bible. I am always challenged to think more deeply in my own interpretations of the scriptures that I sometimes find difficult to fully understand.
I also appreciate this video "Pope And The Papacy" and the many other videos that John MacArthur has made over the years, they are always useful and helpful.
@StSimonMartyr .......Lets finish the context of these bible verses and let Jesus explain what he is talking about......John 6:63 " It is the Spirit who gives life, the FLESH profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are SPIRIT and they are life"...........He was clearly talking about a spiritual issue and not literally eating his flesh.
This minister does not know his Catholic teaching very well. I am an evangelical Catholic who believes that the RCC needs change and their are great non-biblical teaching that need to be not taught by the church anymore. However, the RCC does teach Jesus as God's Son and we are saved by Faith with proof in works. Infant baptism is also a problem. Believer baptism is the RCC and all Christian churches should go to. This guy is does not understand what the RCC teaches. A hateful shame.
@MRGV7373 The RCC view as expressed by Trent was that good works done by the grace of God after justification are meriterious .Trent specifically rejected the Reformed view on justification. That is a point that must never be forgotten. Point 1987 to 2019 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains their view and contradicts your down playing of the issues involved. It appears you are unfamiliair with the decrees of Trent on what they condemned and what they affirmed.
@NY1054Cool We are never justified by works or the law. Paul in Romans states that quite clearly. God in Chriat on the Cross is 100% of the atoning work. After we come to faith is Jesus as Lord and savior works of God will come be performed by the person of faith. These works are "proof" of our regeneration as children of God. I don't down play the issue, I total reject that any work a person does is meriterious toward salvaltion. The works we do are Meriterioius to our status in heaven.
@NY1054Cool I agree with you and see the word "after" justification. Before justification works are not meritious but yes afterword. The workers of Christ will get a reword for good works - gold, evil works will be burned up like hay wood or stuble. I Cor 6 - Pergatory as a place of cleansing the believer of sin and rewards for dong a faith filled works of God. After salvation works are rewarded or meritious. Sorry for my miss understanding. Good point.
Purgatory: Rev. 21:27, 1 Corinthians 3:1415, 2 Maccabees 12:4045 Penance: John 20:23, Matthew 16:19; 18:18; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21, Luke 24:46-49 "Stand firm and hold to the Traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter" (2 Thess. 2:15) That word is the good news which was Preached to you" (1 Pet. 1:25). Note the word has been "Preached"—ie Orally. There was NO Bible for 400 years AFTER Christs Crucifixion! The CHURCH Canonized the Bible. Christ founded it.
@StSimonMartyr Purgatory Good, Penance - Jesus died for sins once and for all. John 20 is about conversion. Not personal sin, Matt 16 is not about personal sin, it is about traditions and teachings. Peter changed food that was clean, gentiles as God's children, no circumcision, Luke 24 is about the message of forgiveness through Jesus death, not confession to a priest, 2 Cor 5 Ministry of Reconciliation is the forgivness of sins by Jesus atoning death - not confession. Poor interpretation.
@StSimonMartyr The Church does not have the oral teaching of the apostles. The only records we have that the apostles or Jesus taught are in scripture or the early church fathers. No oral histroy exists except that what was written. The letters of Paul and the 4 gosples were well circulated in the 100-400AD time period and that is what the early church read and were taught from. Paul does give them godly advice to listen to what he told them. Paul taught them face to face. Preached
@StSimonMartyr Yes, and they did reference the scriptures often. Writen scripture, teachings/tradition and preaching all have there place in ministry. Oral traditons have a place but are troublesome since they have the least historical backup or proof. I know they have a place in faith and practice. However, they are not the best "proof" for doctrine. Scripture, Oral tradition/teaching and a guiding group are needed to build a church. The RCC is one of many churches that authority to teach
@StSimonMartyr Paul Oral teaching to a specific group is valid. However to make any oral teaching valid is nonsence since we did not hear Paul preach. So what is written by Paul is what we have. Oral teachings that are reduced to writing is valid. Can you tell me what Paul or Jesus said by Oral teachings?? Did you hear them? Is anyone alive that heard them So how do we know what they said? By what was writen down. Traditions that are 2,000 years old are written tradtions. Wake up!!
@StSimonMartyr I think I am still alive. Wow "dead wrong" a bit strong mate. If you want to know where I went on vacation in 1965, how would you know? Photos, letters about the vacation, notes.... If all the eye witness are dead what tells you what I did on my vacation in 1965?? If you read the early church fathers, they tell of the writings that they had from the Apostles, Luke and Mark, Paul. After 120 AD all the original people werre dead. So writings became key to knowing the truth.
@StSimonMartyr the issue for today is " What did they teach vebally and say"?? for the last 2000 years?? We don't have recording of what they said with sound but we do have what they said verbally in WRITTING. So the written word is what we have. The written words are the teachings/traditions that came from the Apostles and Jesus. We don't have the verbal traditons that were not writtne down and they are lost. Those unearthed writting are the traditoins they spoke. They were also written
@StSimonMartyr So what are the verbal leasons? Do we read in the first part of the mass from the first book of Traditons? How about the Gospel of Jesus from the book of Traditions? NO we read from Mark or Luke dont't we? The early church wrote down what they saw and heard and that is what came down to us. Ever tradtion or practice has to have an historical basis. IF not how do we know it is true. How do we know that Jesus offered us his Body and Blood? I cor 12 or mark 14? Written proof.
@StSimonMartyr Can't answer the question can you? Written? If all the Apostles died the day after Christ rose from the dead, who would build the church? Yes, the ones that confess Jesus as Lord, Just like Peter did. IT is not the person of Peter the church is built upon, it is the confession of believers (like Peters confession) that the church is built on. Work are the results of faith. It a person that says they are Christ's but has no works, then I would say they lack faith. NO problem
'YOU Are Peter, and upon THIS Rock, I will build MY Church'
This Rock, My Church, there is NO Plural.
Christ spoke Aramaic and nicknamed Simon "Kepha," ("Cephas") which means "Rock."
Matthew 16
The SPIRITUAL Rock, Christ, the High Priest and Head of the Church, Authorized Peter to be the earthly Rock, His Vicar, of the Church the father of the New Covenant.
Just as God the Father made Abraham the earthly father of the Old Covenant (Isaiah 51:1-2)
@StSimonMartyr But Matthew was writen in Greek and the word is Pebble in Greek and is Singular. The simgular trueth that Jesus is God and Christ being confessed by a person are the rocks on which the church is built on. Peter was a key figure but Peter confession is the "Rock" on which God via Jesus would build a chruch. Jesus was smart enough to know that Peter was lead by God to see and confess Jesus as Lord. All Christian churches confess Jesus as Lord are built on this confession.
@StSimonMartyr I have not lied. Matthew wrote in Greek, if God wanted to show Rock, why write in Greek? So get off this arguement. If does not fly. The word in Greek is Petros , Pebble - however, it must be allowed by all that the Greek text of the New Testament is all that has come down from antiquity. Therefore, all arguments from the Aramaic should be rejected until it can be produced and authenticated. No aramiad exists for the text, Why? the confession is the rock, Peter a Pebble
@StSimonMartyr Judge not lest you be judged. You are acting with great sinfulness here. I am pointing out a different interpretation. I have never attacked you at any personel level. I have not killed 53 million babies and I am a member in good standing in my local Catholic Church. Their is no salvation out side of Jesus, Act 4:12. And those who believe in Jesus. So repent of your sinful self righteous writngs here. I don't judge you and it is only God that will judge you. Peace done
@StSimonMartyr Greek is a much more percise language than Aramaic. Greek was the language God picked, not Aramaic. And this is written in Greek. No text exist in Aramaic and if God wanted a better word, God picked Greek. I don't lie to be right, I show what the scripture says and don't resort to a language that is NOT used. So who is "telling the truth here"?? I have an opinion just as you do. Niether is right nor "dead" wrong. Grow up and don't name call. "baby killer" is very childish
@StSimonMartyr Even the Pope agrees that salvation can be found "out side" the RCC church. How dare you contradict the leader and ruler of RCC. Since you can't " win" you have resorted to the most immature and childlike crying I have seen for a long time on a comment board. How about sprinkling some blood and lighting up the wood to burn the "non" beliving heritic. I find it so amazing that people like you have so little room for anyone to give your arguments counter. Grow in the HS and Love
@StSimonMartyr Peter is one of twelve Apostles. A key one but not the only one. Jesus for 3 years could have made Peter the head of the Chruch. But it was only after Peter confessed the truth about Jesus, that Jesus, right after this verbal confession, Stops and tell the 12 not just Peter, that this rock, meaning confession of Jesus as Christ, is what the church is built upon. Word play on Peter, rock or pebble, the confession are pebbles leading to a solid rock of the church, not Peter
@StSimonMartyr Are you just acting with pure hate here?? Jews as a group have less abortions than any other group of americans. How hatefilled are you?? Do you really believe that Jesus died for you? Have you been born again. A person of True Love of God would never say such things. You better get the plank out of your eye before you get in front of God. Jews are God's first children, Protestants guided the RCC back to some important trueths. Jesus is the Lord, Writing prove it. Grow up
Jews were DAMNED bhy Christ (John 8:44)..Ye Are Of Your Father, The Devil! He was a Murderer from the Beginning and there in NO Truth in him'
Jews brought abortion to Jew run Protestant nations and have killed 60+ million babies.
At least Catholics have the good sense to not pay Jew to have their babies butchered and then sold for body parts for the Jew run Planned Parenthood. ie Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Poland et al
@StSimonMartyr The policital Leaders who where ran the religious leaders also were damned by Jesus for their hard hearts and non-listening. However Paul in Romans remembers that the Jews are God's choosen people and some day will lead the world back to Jesus. Jews as well as many others allowed abortion to exist in the country. The God approved supreme court approved abortion. Not that God would ever approve of abortion. You seem hate Jews. Remember Jesus was a Jew, and not catholic.
@StSimonMartyr As usual you have misunderstood the scripture and what Jesus said. Jesus told them that they belong to their father the devil. Jesus never damned the Jews here. Jesus never judged anyone on earth, humans will be judged at ta later time. StSimon, you have no love for the Jews, protestants which are part of God's creation and are your neighbors which Jesus tell you to Love. Have you given your heart to Jesus and been born again?? I can tell that your heart is soured by hate!
@StSimonMartyr just because you follow the Catholic Church and been baptized does not mean that you are a child of God. I am concerned that you have no Love for others. If you do not love others as Christ has love you, YOU ARE IN GRAVE DANGER. Why, I get the feeling that you know RCC but you don't know the love of God? Ask yourself, Did not Jesus love the sinner? If you want to be great in God's eye, Love as God has LOVED you. Forgive others and get rid of your hate and hating. Forgive.
God doesnt have a mother.. Jesus is Jehovah (True..) But Mary is the mother of the Word of God in the Flesh! The Son of God has been in Existence in the beginning not as Jesus but the Word of God... with the Father and the Holy Spirit... READ John 1:1-14...
He attacks Christian traditions...read 1 Cor. 11:1; 2 Thes. 2:15; 2 Tim 2:2... and decide for yourself. Notice how I keep saying, decide for yourself...because I want you to have the freedom to chose to follow him and hate others or learn about his preaching and decide for yourself as we have free will.
I wonder if this man ever read the words on the Hail Mary...it clearly shows in the last verse that Catholics do not pray to Mary but asks Mary to pray for us..."and pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen." How is that praying to Mary? It would seem to ask for Mary to pray for a dying person in agony or pain and cannot pray of think straight anymore.
He could be thinking of Marian devotion generally. *If* I were making his argument for him, I'd point out that "...pray...death. Amen" is not in the Bible, though most of the HM is. There are all sorts of reasons - from a Calvinist POV - why that would be objectionable.
It would be very interesting to know two things: what his sources of info about Catholicism are; &, what books about Catholic doctrine (if any) he has read.
He refers in the video to J.-H. Merle D'Aubigne's "The Reformation In England", which was popular in the 19th century & was reprinted in 1972 - but that's history: not doctrine.
@Nofanatics So what is prayer? Talking to God. Asking Mary anything is wrong. She hears nothing, nor can she be a mediator to the Father. Christians go through Christ, never Mary. She sinned like the rest of man kind and does nothing for Christians here on earth.
@joseph82069 You try to convolute what is clear. Also, please read about Mary, she did not sin like "the rest of us". Research quotes from your protestant leaders about The Blessed Virgin Mary the Mother of Jesus Christ...whom you are giving no importance to...(I don't know if you speak lowly of her because you are being a chauvinistic protestant) Luther, Calvin and Zwingli all proclaimed Mary as without sin and forever remained pure. As I have said...research, read..take not one man's word!
@Nofanatics All have sinned, this includes Mary. She has importance but she needed the forgiveness of Christ as well. I don't care what a man says, God says all have sinned. There is none righteous no noy one. We all are born with sin, Mary included. The scripture does not record the sins of the Apostles, does that mena they were sinless, no. Mary hears no prayers, nor can she answer prayers, nor any other dead person. The Rom. Cath. teachings are false and heretical.
@joseph82069 On hearing prayers, it is in the bible: Revelation 5:8 (King James Version-A protestant bible) And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. Mary was conceived without original sin (Immaculate conception) or Kecharitomene in Greek: Arcangel Gabriel said: "Chaire, Kecharitomene"! Thus w/o orig sin she also did not die (Assumption)
@Nofanatics And that verse is saying they hear the prayers?? No. Is it showing that we pray to them? No.
Is it implying in anyway we pray to anyone other than the Father or Christ? No. You would have to read into that verse to say that. which verse shows immaculate conception?? There are none, it's a made up by the RCC, it's a false teaching. Jesus Christ was the only sinless man on this planet ever, and He was also God.
@joseph82069 how do you interpret that verse, oh wise and exalted one... (I say these title because you are going against people who studied theology most of their lives). It would be like a lawyer telling me what the law book states and me a chef reading the law book and telling the lawyer he is wrong. Do you see what I am trying to explain here?
@Nofanatics Yes sarcasm is helpful. The JW's and Mormon cults have theologians too. Muslims have theologians etc...RCC has theologians, but they are all damning false sytems/cults. The verse in Revelation is not teaching prayer to saints or anyone but God.
Find all the teaching about Mary, you will see she is deifi

Strefanasha 1 week ago
catholics deny certain biblical doctrines, they deny them explicitly, but we protestants, by our fruit show that we do not believe these self same biblical doctrines.
so what is the difference?
catholics hold the trinity the resurrection etc. so do we. we deny the others by our lives, catholics deny them by precept,
so we are as christian as each other
AND THAT IS NOT MUCH
Strefanasha 1 week ago
if there were nothing more loving than the truth the Bible woulds not have bothered saying "speak the truth in love" for if they spoke the truth it would follow that they spoke in love.

Is it ignorance or is it conscious deception?
prairiemark 3 months ago

How'bout millions of people who never heard of Jesus but in their hearts they were open to God and good to others as much as they could?
enterprise88 3 months ago

1979jdw 3 months ago
@1979jdw google it im sure you'll find the many denominations i mentioned. And plz interpret John 6:52-58...and all that stuff about Mary, you should check Martin Luther's theology on that, the man responsible for the protestant reformation in the first place. But his theology died out, why? because it is not led by the holy spirit and is prone to error, the teachings of the Catholic Church are not.
desouzaj 2 months ago
@1979jdw and its good that these denominations agree on core issue, but what about other issues, they just have different opinions do they? can you not see what is in front of your eyes, and that division in Christians is not what Christ wants. He only has one truth. Btw, all the books of the bible (including the one the protestants have taken out) were sanctioned by the Catholic Church. The council of Rome in 382.

@springbokbullietjie visit catholicscomehome . org...theres a nice section for protestants to show them what the Church actually teaches. Rom. 3:10,23-24, Rom., 4, Ephesians 2:8,9, John 3:3, 16,
rtarasiak 4 months ago 2
@rtarasiak You apparantly were not catechized properly. If you read the Council of Trent specifically, you will find concerning justification that the Catholic Church believes we are saved by grace alone, not faith alone; faith and works being God's required responses to His free, unmerited gift of salvation. The notion that the Church teaches a work-based salvation is a misunderstanding. Read Romans Ch. 2, James 2:24
StAugustine79 3 months ago
The reason I know my interpretation is correct is because I read the bible in context of what is being written. Secondly, I will also go back to the Greek or Hebrew translation just to make sure my interpretation is sound. Understand, the bible is not a riddle like the Catholic church makes it out to be. The reason they don't want you reading or interpreting scripture is because they know once you do, their false doctrines will be exposed and their power will crumble( i.e. reformation)
1979jdw 4 months ago 2
@1979jdw forget it...u just dont understand the meaning of authority and one truth......which is why christians are nicely divided for the whole world to laugh at. 30000+ denominations....ohh are we ever the united body of Christ. By the way, interpret John 6:52-58.
desouzaj 3 months ago
Authority is good, but when that authority puts forth doctrine that is in clear violation of scripture(i.e Mary Co-Mediator or Co-Redeemer), then we must embrace the word and shun the opinions of man, regardless of who propagates it. Lastly, you don't need a PHD to understand scripture, there are many verses that are very easily understood.(i.e 1 Tim 2:5) "There is only one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus".....How would you interrupt that verse? It seems pretty clear...
1979jdw 4 months ago

TheLionessjudah 4 months ago
The problem of equating scripture and tradition as equal is that the Catholic church can create doctrine even though it is not found in scripture. That creates a big problem, because if the bible says one thing "Jesus is mediator (1 Timothy 2:5)" and the church says another thing "Mary co-mediator(Tradition)", then who is right? Should we put our faith in scripture or should we put our faith in man's tradition? God's word is infallible, but man is fallible...(i.e traditions)
1979jdw 4 months ago
@1979jdw Maaaaaan. Read Peters declaration of Jesus. Jesus says, Flesh and blood have not revealed this to you but my Father in heaven! This is right before Peter is entrusted with Jesus' Church! Seriously if God's word is infallible, why are so many in disagreement about it! I think God's word is infallible, but taken only in the right context. God has to have authority here so we know which context to take it in, thats why we have the Catholic Church so we can be united in Christ!!!
desouzaj 4 months ago
@1979jdw And when i was referring to ignorance, i was not talking about research that you may have done on the Church. I am talking about interpreting scripture. How can you know for sure that you are interpreting scripture in the RIGHT way. Jesus gave us the Truth, this is where authority has to come into play. He did not want us scattered, divided, leaderless. He wanted us to be united in the body of Christ that is the Church. Visit catholicscomehome. org plzzz
desouzaj 4 months ago
Trust me, I'm not making comments about the Catholic church in ignorance, I have read the "Council of Trent" and "Vatican Council 2". It is because I have read these documents that I make these comments. The doctrine of Co-mediator and Co-redeemer are found in these writings and there is no scripture to support them. Lastly, they admit it is "Tradition", but they claim tradition is equal to scripture. So if you can't find supporting scriptures, they say it's tradition(I.e Mary Co-Mediator)
1979jdw 4 months ago
Your statement "We don't know the bible enough as we should" should be your first warning and red flag. I would recommend that you first read the bible and compare what the bible says with what Catholic doctrine says before you defend their positions. Again, if you read the bible you would see that calling Mary Co-mediator or Co-redeemer is blatant blasphemy. Only Jesus is worthy of the title redeemer, mediator, savior....Why? Because he died upon the cross, not Mary.
1979jdw 4 months ago
Your definition of authority is blind allegiance to the opinion and interpretations of one man(i.e Pope). Which they have clearly demonstrated in the past and even now their clear ignorance of scripture(i.e Mary Co-mediator). Why would anybody put their faith in Catholic doctrine who's tradition violates the scriptures? Why do you believe you are so ignorant that you can't understand scripture for yourself. The bible is not a riddle, have more faith in yourself and read the bible.
1979jdw 4 months ago

1979jdw 4 months ago
@1979jdw One, i said Catholics as a whole not myself, though i still need more ofcourse. Two i never said i couldnt understand the bibile, but there are verses that are difficult to interpret, A wrong interpretation and theres an ignorance that i dont even know about. And if u want to know the relationship between the bible and catholic doctrine, catholicscomehome. org. Where scripture is referenced consistently to prove Catholic doctrine.
desouzaj 4 months ago
@1979jdw And you are right to some extent, Catholics do not know the bible well enough as we should. There is room for a great deal of improvement. Once again, we should love and honour Mary, why? She lived the way we all want to live, with Jesus inside of us. Look when you see it from the outside, i can understand why you think catholics worship Mary, But it is not true that we worship her. And, asking for prayers from Saints, Mary, Angels, family, friends,...more prayers towards God, not less
desouzaj 4 months ago
organizing the books of bible and creating the bible are completely different. The Catholic church did not pen 1 book of the bible.
1979jdw 4 months ago
Calling Mary Co-redeemer or Co-Mediator is not honoring her, but blaspheming God the Father. Building statues to her around world and adorning these statutes with crowns and laying prostrate before her statue is a far cry from honoring her and nothing more than Mary worship. Do you realize that only God is worthy of such worship and adoration? I have lived in South America and seen the processions of Mary, it is not honor, but open worship.
1979jdw 4 months ago
Where in the bible does it say we are to ask dead people to pray for us? Where does it instruct us to pray to angels and ask for help? Where does the bible say we should pray or ask mary to pray for us? Again, this nothing more than man made tradition that is not biblical and takes people away from praying to the one true God who is worthy of our prayers and worship.
1979jdw 4 months ago
Yes, the Holy Spirit empowers believers to understand the bible. For the Catholic church to say they are the only ones capable of interpreting scripture is absolute non-sense and they only make this claim to make sure nobody dares challenge their authority. Lastly, the Catholic church knows once people start reading the bible for themselves they will clearly see blasphemies of the Catholic churches teachings. For example, where does the doctrine of Mary being Co-redeemer in the bible?
1979jdw 4 months ago
@1979jdw ohhhh man....will u please answer me why protestants dont agree with each other on every bible verse? Protestants agree with Catholics on some bible verses, so many of macaruthurs teachings are similar to catholicism. With regards to Mary...this is one that astonishes me. The one who literally had Jesus living within her, and you cannot find it within yourself to understand why the Church honours her and holds her in high regard. There is a reason God chose Mary to bear Jesus.
desouzaj 4 months ago
@1979jdw Mary is the second most powerful behind the Trinity. She and all the saints and angels that you think we "worship", but really we honour, we ask for their prayers the same way we ask for each others prayers. Prayers to whom? To God ONLY. Try and take a closer look at Catholic teachings before you jump at the stereotypes and become completely immersed by them and think you understand what the Church is really about.
desouzaj 4 months ago
@1979jdw And once again...the reason there is AUTHORITY is because if we didnt have it, then we would all disagree and become divided (33 000+ denominations of Christianity) instead of being united in Christ, the way the Holy Scriptures talk about. And yes, the Church that created the bible definitely created scriptures so that everyone could figure out that the Church is actually a big heresy....lol cmon, ask yourself, where does the bible come from, why are we divided?? Thanks for the debate.
desouzaj 4 months ago
@1979jdw **Church where the bible comes (not created) from, the bible is the Word of God and it came from the Catholic Church.
desouzaj 4 months ago
Your comparisons of a photo on the wall and someone laying prostrate before a statute is a far cry from honoring. I do not light candles to photos on my wall, I do not lay prostrate to photos on my wall, and I certainly do not kneel to pictures on my wall. This is just typical Catholic whitewash speech to cover up their blatant and obivous idol worship.

@1979jdw Dr. MacArthur did hit the nail on the head with this very brief overview of Roman Catholic teaching. Most Roman Catholics who view this video do not realize this is only an `overview`, not by any means an indepth study of the subject, which causes many RC`s to go off the deep end.
Thank-you for your concern for their souls....

@desouzaj Hence why the Catholic Church warned us not to listen or read Protestant heresy cause it can weaken our faith.

@sgal88 Heresy? try Biblical truth but then again that don't matter right?
Gideon6640man 4 months ago 3
@Gideon6640man It is heresy because none of those Protestant even follow each other. If Luther is so exalted upon the Protestant, then why do you reject the sinlessness of Mary with Luther believed in. Because you go by the supposed wisdom of the Protestant reformers that swear to be talking on behalf of God with no authority whatsoever.
sgal88 4 months ago
@sgal88 ..........Where in the bible does it say we are to bow, lay prostrate, or genuflect to Mary? This is nothing more than idol worship which the bible forbids. Also, where does it state in the bible that Mary is Co-redeemer to Christ? The bible is very clear, "I'm(Jesus) the way, the truth, and the life and NO ONE comes to the father except by ME(Jesus). The reality is the Roman Catholic church is mystery Babylon the great mentioned in Rev 17 and her judgment is coming.
1979jdw 4 months ago
@sgal88 .........No, it weaken their control over you and your ability to know the truth. Of course they are going to tell you not to listen to protestants or bible believers, they want to keep you in blindness. Isn't it suspicious they don't want you to read the bible? Isn't it suspicious that it was considered an anathema(eternal damnation) for even having a bible? Why is that? It is clear, they want to keep you in darkness to their obvious blasphemies...
1979jdw 4 months ago
@1979jdw You are soo ignorant. It was never an anathema to use a Bible but to read a Bible from a translator who was Protestant because they perverted the gospels. The Church has not blinded me but has confirmed itself over and over again. You wish to remain blinded, that is your consequence but you will be surely sorry for doing so.
sgal88 4 months ago
@sgal88 Let me give you an example of the blatant blasphemies of the Catholic church, here is a statement from Vatican II.... "that by means of the images which we kiss and before which we uncover the head and PROSTRATE ourselves, we adore Christ and venerate the saints whose likeness they bear, anyone should teach or maintain anything contrary to these decrees, let him be anathema." ....What does the bible say about laying prostrate to statues? The 2nd commandment comes to mind..
1979jdw 4 months ago
@desouzaj .............So Christ instructed us to bow or lay prostrate to statues of Mary? Did Christ say Mary was Co-redeemer? No my friend, Christ did NOT give us Catholicism, these teachings are forbidden by the word of God and blasphemous....
1979jdw 4 months ago
@1979jdw alright...where did the bible come from. When anti-catholic Christians understand the difference between honour/veneration and worship, what a day that will be. When you kneel by the grave of a lost loved one or cry and look at pictures of lost loved ones, are you worshipping them...no. These teachings of the Church are not forbidden, only if the Word is taken out of context will it be that way. Thats why we dont have one Church. Cuz protestants cannot understand authority...(Part 1)
desouzaj 4 months ago

Is that your religion??? you must be ashamed of yourself . . . love one another, be your brothers' keeper.
rea201722 5 months ago
Just to clarify the works are not about "buying" your way into heaven. It's about letting God's grace transform you into the person that Christ wants you to be. Read the gospels he said in matthew 16: 27 he will pay every man according to his conduct and in matthew 25:31-45. in barney style he basically says if you don't help one another then you will go to hell. you got to do the good works to allow christ to change you, saying a phrase one time in your life is NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
mandaloreJCL 6 months ago
wow. he really needs to read the bible again. James follows it up as well, just as the soul without the body is dead so is
mandaloreJCL 6 months ago
@mandaloreJCL faith without good works. As for relics read acts19:11. If anyone tries to argue the meaning of do this in remembrance of me then let me silence that one. ἀνάμνησιν is the Greek word in the original text that is translated as remembrance or commemoration. Here is the literal interpretation to bring this action back to life. However if you write it out like that in English then people won't understand it. to break things down barney style read the catechism, WE DO NOT WORSHIP SAINTS
mandaloreJCL 6 months ago
@mandaloreJCL part 3: FYI purgatory is not a second chance. It is a place to purify the soul from any remaining sins that have not been repented in life because nothing unclean can stand before God. It only purifies venial sins, mortal sins however, that were not repented in life destroys the life of grace and separates a person from God. read 1 john 5:16-17. Now did you read where Jesus says to peter alone 3 times feed my sheep? Don't say it was just for peter to make up for his denial
mandaloreJCL 6 months ago

"I do not want you in my house because you have no faith in Mary. it is not true in all of catholicism, but it is very true amongst primitive areas. The 400 year old cathedral i visited there had a mosaic on the ceiling that pictured Peter and JESUS setting a crown on Mary's head as if she was given all power in heaven..I think even Mary is sickened by it
armystrong3305 7 months ago 8
@armystrong3305 The Phillippines do not worship Mary, neither do Catholics. The fact that a lady told you to leave your house because of that would be synonymous to an atheist preaching that there is no God. The heresy of Protestanism is dangerous and leads one astray.

It is MacArthur who claims a divine commission:
The Grace to You ministry's letterhead has this slogan at the bottom: "The Bible Teaching of John MacArthur." Benedict XVI is more modest in his claims. His letterhead does not have at the bottom "The Bible Teaching of Benedict XVI" because the Pope is not trying to push his own agenda.

MRGV7373 10 months ago
@MRGV7373 The RCC view as expressed by Trent was that good works done by the grace of God after justification are meriterious .Trent specifically rejected the Reformed view on justification. That is a point that must never be forgotten. Point 1987 to 2019 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains their view and contradicts your down playing of the issues involved. It appears you are unfamiliair with the decrees of Trent on what they condemned and what they affirmed.
NY1054Cool 10 months ago
@NY1054Cool We are never justified by works or the law. Paul in Romans states that quite clearly. God in Chriat on the Cross is 100% of the atoning work. After we come to faith is Jesus as Lord and savior works of God will come be performed by the person of faith. These works are "proof" of our regeneration as children of God. I don't down play the issue, I total reject that any work a person does is meriterious toward salvaltion. The works we do are Meriterioius to our status in heaven.
MRGV7373 10 months ago
@NY1054Cool I agree with you and see the word "after" justification. Before justification works are not meritious but yes afterword. The workers of Christ will get a reword for good works - gold, evil works will be burned up like hay wood or stuble. I Cor 6 - Pergatory as a place of cleansing the believer of sin and rewards for dong a faith filled works of God. After salvation works are rewarded or meritious. Sorry for my miss understanding. Good point.

Preached
MRGV7373 9 months ago
Christ did Not practice By Scripture alone, NOR did HIS apostles. Any of them!
"So Faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ" (Rom. 10:17).
"He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me"
Luke 10:16).
The Catholic Church, in the persons of the apostles, was given the authority to teach by Christ; the Church would be his representative.
He commissioned them, saying, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" (Matt. 28:19).
StSimonMartyr 9 months ago
@StSimonMartyr Yes, and they did reference the scriptures often. Writen scripture, teachings/tradition and preaching all have there place in ministry. Oral traditons have a place but are troublesome since they have the least historical backup or proof. I know they have a place in faith and practice. However, they are not the best "proof" for doctrine. Scripture, Oral tradition/teaching and a guiding group are needed to build a church. The RCC is one of many churches that authority to teach
MRGV7373 9 months ago
@StSimonMartyr Paul Oral teaching to a specific group is valid. However to make any oral teaching valid is nonsence since we did not hear Paul preach. So what is written by Paul is what we have. Oral teachings that are reduced to writing is valid. Can you tell me what Paul or Jesus said by Oral teachings?? Did you hear them? Is anyone alive that heard them So how do we know what they said? By what was writen down. Traditions that are 2,000 years old are written tradtions. Wake up!!
MRGV7373 9 months ago
The teachings of early Christians came FROM Traditions, not a book, not writings.
Traditions handed down, by word and by deed.
Does your family write down their Holiday traditions that you do every year?
We have been doing the same thing for a century and nothing has ever been written down.
Youre dead wrong

@StSimonMartyr I think I am still alive. Wow "dead wrong" a bit strong mate. If you want to know where I went on vacation in 1965, how would you know? Photos, letters about the vacation, notes.... If all the eye witness are dead what tells you what I did on my vacation in 1965?? If you read the early church fathers, they tell of the writings that they had from the Apostles, Luke and Mark, Paul. After 120 AD all the original people werre dead. So writings became key to knowing the truth.
MRGV7373 9 months ago
Most of the world then, as now, but moreso then was Illiterate!
Only a small number of scribes could record! No PCs, No typewriters, no modern tech. or pads of paper.

MRGV7373 9 months ago
No
What did they DO and say for the last 2000 years.
Traditions were and are handed down and then written in many and in most cases.
Thats why the gospel are only 4 short books, all other teachings were verbal and learned in that fashion.
You lost mate.
Traditions are practices that were handed down, they neednt be written down. But practiced into a form.
No one could read in Christs time! Almost all were illiterate. The WORD Spread BY Practice and Tradition, not by book learning.
Use brains

@StSimonMartyr So what are the verbal leasons? Do we read in the first part of the mass from the first book of Traditons? How about the Gospel of Jesus from the book of Traditions? NO we read from Mark or Luke dont't we? The early church wrote down what they saw and heard and that is what came down to us. Ever tradtion or practice has to have an historical basis. IF not how do we know it is true. How do we know that Jesus offered us his Body and Blood? I cor 12 or mark 14? Written proof.

FAITH is a Belief.
NOT a book.
Jesus Christ established a Church—not a book—to be the Foundation of the Christian faith
(Luke 20:29-32; Matt. 10:40; 28:18-20).
'You are Peter and Upon This Rock, I will build My Church'
Christ-Matthew 16:18
"You see that a man is justified By works and Not by Faith alone."
- James 2:24
James 2:14-26. "Faith without works is dead"
StSimonMartyr 9 months ago
@StSimonMartyr Can't answer the question can you? Written? If all the Apostles died the day after Christ rose from the dead, who would build the church? Yes, the ones that confess Jesus as Lord, Just like Peter did. IT is not the person of Peter the church is built upon, it is the confession of believers (like Peters confession) that the church is built on. Work are the results of faith. It a person that says they are Christ's but has no works, then I would say they lack faith. NO problem
MRGV7373 9 months ago
StSimonMartyr 9 months ago
@StSimonMartyr But Matthew was writen in Greek and the word is Pebble in Greek and is Singular. The simgular trueth that Jesus is God and Christ being confessed by a person are the rocks on which the church is built on. Peter was a key figure but Peter confession is the "Rock" on which God via Jesus would build a chruch. Jesus was smart enough to know that Peter was lead by God to see and confess Jesus as Lord. All Christian churches confess Jesus as Lord are built on this confession.
MRGV7373 9 months ago
Christ SPOKE ARAMAIC, as HIS chief Language.
Aramaic Primacy is asserted by All religious authoritarians over Greek.
Christ spoke Aramaic, and nicknamed Simon "Kepha," ("Cephas") which means "Rock IN Aramaic" (SINGULAR!)
Not pebble, If Jesus had wanted to call Simon a small stone, Greek lithos would have been used, not petra
Not rocks, Not Churches.
Must you Lie to be right?
Youre dead wrong and have the Blood of 53 Million Babies on your hands.

StSimonMartyr 9 months ago
@StSimonMartyr I have not lied. Matthew wrote in Greek, if God wanted to show Rock, why write in Greek? So get off this arguement. If does not fly. The word in Greek is Petros , Pebble - however, it must be allowed by all that the Greek text of the New Testament is all that has come down from antiquity. Therefore, all arguments from the Aramaic should be rejected until it can be produced and authenticated. No aramiad exists for the text, Why? the confession is the rock, Peter a Pebble

MRGV7373 9 months ago
Wrong
'You are Peter and Upon This Rock, I will build My Church'
You are Peter
Not I am Christ
This Rock, My church...its very simple. No plural, no Churches.
Peter and Only Peter was told BY CHRIST, to 'FEED MY LAMBS' 3 times. 'FEED MY SHEEP'
Jesus Christ established a Church—not a book—to be the Foundation of the Christian faith
(Luke 20:29-32; Matt. 10:40; 28:18-20).
Protestants have the Blood of 53 Million dead Babies on their hands for helping Jews Pass ROE V WADE in 1973.

Grow up
MRGV7373 9 months ago

MRGV7373 9 months ago
@StSimonMartyr just because you follow the Catholic Church and been baptized does not mean that you are a child of God. I am concerned that you have no Love for others. If you do not love others as Christ has love you, YOU ARE IN GRAVE DANGER. Why, I get the feeling that you know RCC but you don't know the love of God? Ask yourself, Did not Jesus love the sinner? If you want to be great in God's eye, Love as God has LOVED you. Forgive others and get rid of your hate and hating. Forgive.

The problem here is that John MacArthur he has no authority.

God doesnt have a mother.. Jesus is Jehovah (True..) But Mary is the mother of the Word of God in the Flesh! The Son of God has been in Existence in the beginning not as Jesus but the Word of God... with the Father and the Holy Spirit... READ John 1:1-14...

A difficullt task, yet it must be done; exposing the false damnable Catholic doctrines and beliefs.

what is he talking about Catholics place Mary above Jesus and / or God? I never heard a priest say anything like that.
timmyp34 1 year ago

Nofanatics 1 year ago
@Nofanatics

She sinned like the rest of man kind and does nothing for Christians here on earth.
joseph82069 1 year ago
@joseph82069 You try to convolute what is clear. Also, please read about Mary, she did not sin like "the rest of us". Research quotes from your protestant leaders about The Blessed Virgin Mary the Mother of Jesus Christ...whom you are giving no importance to...(I don't know if you speak lowly of her because you are being a chauvinistic protestant) Luther, Calvin and Zwingli all proclaimed Mary as without sin and forever remained pure. As I have said...research, read..take not one man's word!
Nofanatics 1 year ago
@Nofanatics All have sinned, this includes Mary. She has importance but she needed the forgiveness of Christ as well. I don't care what a man says, God says all have sinned. There is none righteous no noy one. We all are born with sin, Mary included. The scripture does not record the sins of the Apostles, does that mena they were sinless, no. Mary hears no prayers, nor can she answer prayers, nor any other dead person. The Rom. Cath. teachings are false and heretical.
joseph82069 1 year ago
@joseph82069 On hearing prayers, it is in the bible: Revelation 5:8 (King James Version-A protestant bible) And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. Mary was conceived without original sin (Immaculate conception) or Kecharitomene in Greek: Arcangel Gabriel said: "Chaire, Kecharitomene"! Thus w/o orig sin she also did not die (Assumption)
Nofanatics 1 year ago
@Nofanatics And that verse is saying they hear the prayers?? No. Is it showing that we pray to them? No.
Is it implying in anyway we pray to anyone other than the Father or Christ? No. You would have to read into that verse to say that. which verse shows immaculate conception?? There are none, it's a made up by the RCC, it's a false teaching. Jesus Christ was the only sinless man on this planet ever, and He was also God.
joseph82069 1 year ago
@joseph82069 how do you interpret that verse, oh wise and exalted one... (I say these title because you are going against people who studied theology most of their lives). It would be like a lawyer telling me what the law book states and me a chef reading the law book and telling the lawyer he is wrong. Do you see what I am trying to explain here?
Nofanatics 1 year ago
@Nofanatics Yes sarcasm is helpful. The JW's and Mormon cults have theologians too. Muslims have theologians etc...RCC has theologians, but they are all damning false sytems/cults. The verse in Revelation is not teaching prayer to saints or anyone but God.
Find all the teaching about Mary, you will see she is deifi
