It's fantastic to find this here. Used to see them playing at 100 club in london some really good nights.
Had a tape of a concert at the Roundhouse that was broadcast by BBC in about 1980 I think Chris McGregor with big line up including Radu Malfathi it was wild lots of free form crazy stuff, but i lost it.
those musos around chris mc gregor including him, were and are my great first love in music!wild, raw, direct to the soul. all gone far to early, never forgotten!!!
@lionsome Seeing them in small venues like Jazz Cafe on Newington Green, The Bass Cleff, music that speaks straight to the soul, so glad to have some Dudu Pukwana on mp3.
@lionsome lovely. Used to have some District Six as well, but that was on tape and gone now :-( I think Mervyn Africa came to my school once as well! I was glad that you chose London as your exile, you made a fantastic contribution to our cultural life.
"ps I think this is going to be released on CD soon"--Sure is on CD thank goodness, part of the 5-CD Blue Notes box set: "Blue Notes for Mongezi" which sounds fantasticly clear from the old LP I have of it. Also, "...in Concert" sounds great, as well as "Live in South Africa 1964" and "Blue Notes for Johnny". Nice booklet too. Nice box set!
Also, Chris McGregor's Septet (Blue Notes really) "Very Urgent", "Up to Earth", and now "Little Prayer" are all on CDs!
can anyone put up any of blue notes for johnny?

questa gioia per scongiurare il peso di un amico morto...
questa musica è tanto spontanea quanto toccante.
non moriranno mai.
