If you build up a Jetta TDI (a model higher in the US) and totally max it out, the price is under $30,000. What is built into UK prices? i think you're wrong. first of all, the gti is still incredibly fuel efficient. i think i'm right in saying that you can consider it a sports car, and how many sports cars do you know that can do 40 mpg (american) if you drive economically?

i'm sure the diesel can do 50+ mpg american, but my point is that you don't sacrifice speed and throttle modulation through the corners with the gti, but you do in the gtd. and the gti is already economical.

I don't agree with the outcome of the test. I've had a Mark 5 GTD with DSG and its awesome. I kept up with Audi TTs and beat most rice rockets in the same range, including Civic type R etc.

You just need to learn how to use Diesels. Most real power is available between 2000 to 3000 revs not as mentioned by Vicky (Sorry but I am a fan actually), as the torque is what gives all the acceleration you need.

Also, its really fun to go home after a nice fast drive and see a ECO figure below 10L/100km

I've driven a Type R ánd a previous GTI. Now that's compition.

A GTD and a Type R are not, the only thing the golf got going is usability, (percieved) built quality and economy.

You need to work the Type R to have it perform, but no "warm" Golf keeps up with it, not in the straights, not in the bends.

Have you driven ANY current VW AND ANY current Honda?

Saying that a GTI handles better than a Type R is just mindbogling...

why must the performance box be correct? i saw a similar show by garage 419 about a year ago (congratulations fith gear on being a year behind on technology) and the app was better than several other more expensive performance boxes. it also was more accuate about horsepower. wh does fith gear have so many stupid angles intoing the GTD...also its not very entertaining to watch...just a bunch of facts strung together...boring!!!

yeah, the battery life isnt great, but no touch screen has a good battery life...also eveyone puts out the lastest apps on the iphone, all the ideas go there first, it just makes the phone better...the android market is no where near as good. it also has the best touch screen as the 3G S is very quick
