  • The smiths theory of socialism

  • camerman did't know which of them was the real guitarr genoius

  • Perhaps the most influential band to come out of UK since the 80's. So many bands now are influenced by The Smiths. And I agree, The Smiths > The Beatles. And yes, it should be Bigmouth.

  • Beatles?

No, thanks. I'll stick with The Smiths.

  • @Mig0103 mmmh I don't think you know The Beatles deeply to write that. However, long live Morrissey

  • this is one good reason for youtube

  • Who gives a fuck what his sexual preference is? What does it matter, just enjoy his and Marr's amazing songs for what they are, pure genius.

  • It's "Bigmouth" not "Big Mouth"! Awesome performance, though. Thanks for uploading!

  • im an embryo and i like the smiths, not the stuff the other embryos are listing to, whale music and dolphin noises.

  • @thenewfella1994 I was 14 when I first discovered the Smiths back when they first started, and nobody there had heard of them. I enjoyed them being my personal secret and now 25 odd years later people like you and my son are loving them....shows how utterly brilliant they are and what good taste you have!

  • @spacecatmoonbeam I remember getting home from school almost two decades ago - what? how did that happen!? - and bunging on a CD oblivious to my dad working with a colleague downstairs till she appeared at my door in her docs to tell me that she'd been a huge Smiths fan at uni some ten years prior and that I had excellent taste in music. I love how we've come full circle and now I'm the one, like you, in awe of how cool some kids are because they listen to 'my' old music :D

  • 17 people are apparently fucking deaf!

  • @fashionputtana What?

  • @thenewfella1994 Belo gosto musical, continue assim. Abraços do Brasil.

  • Not bd, but I prefer 'There is a Light That Never Goes Out'.

  • @thenewfella1994 :D thanks I will thumb up yours

  • I was only joking when I said I'd like to ...

  • @thenewfella1994 who cares how old you are?

  • if i didnt have a girlfriend, id fuck morrissey

  • @thenewfella1994 The amount of people saying how young they are, how they like bands that apparently no one else likes and how special they are because of it, makes them the opposite of special

  • This is the my female cat's song. I sing it to her when she incessantly meows.

  • FUCKING LOVE THE WAY HE ROLLS THE R's

  • 16 people don't like the video.

  • 16 people dislike why u click on the video

  • @thenewfella1994 Hey man I'm from India, and I discovered 'em @ 22 and even I didn't know anyone else who knew them :). After 4 years, I know some who do, and I've also turned some on to them. Since we talkin 'bout the Smiths, on a literary note, have you read Fernando Pessoa, the Portuguese writer? What a hidden gem that dude is ...

  • I'm probably going to end up using this song for a school project. :)

  • @thenewfella1994 the fact that you weren't even born at the height of The Smiths popularity, says volumes of the quality of their music and songwriting and of course, that good music is timeless and everlasting. Thanks for posting this song!!! Queen is Dead is still one of my faves...20 years later!

  • Search for "The Dearhounds".....they do a nice cover of this song!

  • haters stand down

  • Really a shame that we are within a time with shitty artists, "somecountry" got talent and fuckin Justin Bieber. There will never ever be a time where we can listen to some good tunes like this on radio...

  • 15 people dont know what good music is

  • @thenewfella1994 Sou o maior fã português dos Smiths!

  • Your ridiculous comments about an artist's sexuality are irrelevant in the face of music like this.

    The Smiths is not dead.

  • Some time ago I read an article asking Morrissey if he was gay. His response? "I've been in love before". How can anyone attack that. He disarms you and proves that it really dosen't matter if you are gay or not or if he is. It's what you take from the songs that really matters.

  • A band that where about 110 years ahead of the game!!!!! I love this scene, I am god!!!!!!!!

  • @thenewfella1994

Amigo.... tu não deves sair muito de casa......

  • Whenever the end of the world comes I'm gonna sit on my mini bar, have a bottle of Jose Cuervo and go down listening to this song.

  • People that bash gays, or bash anyone else different than themselves for that matter, are just insecure.....They bash to get a rise in their failed self esteem, but at the end of the day they go to bed more hateful and depressed than they were before.

"To each his own"......think about it, learn it, live it...I gaurantee you will live a more happy and fulfilling life.

  • @AnonymousScreenOgler

You should hear me in bed - I sound REALLY GAY there!

    GAY IS GOOD!

  • sweeeeeetnesss

  • @thenewfella1994 Meu caro.... comecei a ouvir the smiths há mais de 25 anos atrás e ainda ouço regularmente. Se nunca conheceste ninguém que conheça smiths em portugal, é pq não conheces as pessoas certas...

  • mental rendition.. listen to his "ha ha hoo hoo"

  • Search The Dearhounds on here...they do a good cover of this....:)

  • @thenewfella1994 I'm Portuguese... Smiths are only one of most influential bands EVAR... hehehe...

The problem here is that without the internet, back then, the labels didn't have the interest to throw some bands into Portugal circuit... Being that way only a few people knew some bands in the past... The younger people are now the people that know them... At least I think that way!

  • Music doesn't really get much better than this!

  • wonderful this band is really the best

  • pure poetry. This is what real music sounds like.

  • Incredible the complexity of this piece is insane so perfectly synced

  • haha wow, Noel Gallagher really took after Marr's look here...I guess this is where Morrissey started wearing jackets on stage all the time

  • How cool does Marr look?!?

  • @thenewfella1994 - Keep the faith. My kids listen to the Smiths too and my 15 year old daughter came with me to a Smiths Indeed tribute gig in December. It was very special listening and singing along together to all the classics and brought back such great memories from my youth. One of the best bands ever, sadly missed ( along with Joy Division ).

  • Why with the gay-bashing about Moz? Shit, this is getting fucking old. For a bunch of "straight" guys you all sure think about gay sex a lot! If you are secure in your sexuality why does another's sexuality bother you?

  • @Lynleyland Totally agree with you . What is this obsession with somebody else's sexuality. Some of the most odious of characters are Heterosexual. Necrophiles are somehow less despised!!!!!!

  • @johnbarry1965 I know, it is disturbing to know that so many are still such morons. It's the 21st cnetury not the friggin' 12th! It's too bad that so many are still so frightened and hateful. Mean people suck (no tin a good way!).

  • @Lynleyland Technically, he isn't gay. At least he never came out. He used to consider himself asexual, and he started his sex life (again, I believe) only in the 2000's, and never said with who, or the sex of the person in question. So yeah, it makes no sense to bash his gayness, 'cause, no one knows if he really is gay.

  • @einXtein Yes, I know he was asexual for many years. Still, if he isn't at least bi-sexual I would be utterly mystified. The point is really that he is perceived as gay and the pleb's are still all fucked up about their own sexuality so someone like Moz or Joan Jett is a big threat to their tenuous sexuality. Homophobia is SOOO last century.

  • @Lynleyland Maybe he isn't sexually defined, and lives an ancient Greece sex life style. Sounds fun to me. Technically, heterosexuality doesn't exist in nature, only homosexuality and bi-sexuality. You heteroes have no idea how to live naturally, lol.

  • @einXtein Indeed. I am so glad I am gay!

  • @Lynleyland well, morrissey is not exactly gay, marr said that morrissey had a number of girlfriends and man friends in the past. And besides you should see The Importance of being Morrissey, you'll see that mostly heterosexual males jump on the stage and try to touch/kiss Morrissey -and frankly, I, a heterosexual male admit that I would do the same if I'd see Morrissey, and I'm not ashamed of it-

  • @Lynleyland Morrisey's A bisexual

  • @Lynleyland whooo-hooo!!! Well said!!

  • @Lynleyland isn't he celibate anyway?

  • @Lynleyland I believe it's an exertion borne out of extreme fear that one may actually be homosexual... I'm sure we've all felt it at some point, but I agree with you, it's really silly to demonize an entire subsection of society.

  • @Lynleyland i'm sorry, but the wondering about morrisseys sexuallity has nothing to do with my relation to sex. I don't like labeling at all, so I don't care much for the "sex-hunt" but I think they do it for other reasons then the one you mentioned

  • Very cool how sounds the bass in this video

  • @thenewfella1994 Are you clumsy and shy?....get it

  • Pure genius.

  • Morrissey was lucky to have such a great band backing him up. I think they get a bit overlooked at times.

    Killer song!

"As the flames rose to her Roman nose and her hearing aid started to melt".

How did he think of that?

  • Can someone tell me what year this was?

  • @AskAlice24 Either 1985 or 86, it was just before the release of the Queen is Dead. I remember well waiting for the show to hear this track for the first time and their awesome performance completely blew me away.

  • this is the greatest thing i have ever heard!

  • Why is this so much better than the album cut, with Morrisseys chipmunk voice? Because this live version is kick-ass! I wish that I could have been around then to see it live.......words in the english language have not been formed yet that can even describe the last 20 sec of this song.

  • dislike Morrissey because he is a gigantic pretentious cock

  • @RoyceLeslie Fuck off.

  • @RoyceLeslie Lol he freaking is. But his voice.... you can't deny his voice...

  • Johnny Marr is next to God

  • musica boa demais

  • Best band EVER....period!

  • As much as I love the recorded version, this live version is, incredibly, even better! Awesome, awesome, awesome! <3 <3 <3 The Smiths!!!!!!!

  • Pure fucking class!!!

  • youve got morrisey flaling the mic around and then youve got craig gannon doing the main riff on the beautiful Rickenbacker and dale hibbert following mike joyces incredible drumming and johnny marr doing those great solo riffs. that right there is a band ladies and gentleman!!

  • @WorkersPartyKorea Dale Hibbert? The Smiths' bassist here, and since the extremely early days, is Andrew Rourke, here with his blonde quiff.

  • bigmouth striked 13 people who disliked this video

  • Catchy guitar riffs. Clever lyrics.

  • Delicious music...

  • Fuckin' brilliant.

  • The. Smiths. Are. Incredible.

  • @HoeMyDown Were... yeah. This live performance has always been one my favorites.

  • @HoeMyDown haha good joke

  • @purepower102 LoL

  • @thenewfella1994 I'm exactly the same but hard lives are much easier thanks to bands like The Smiths - thank you, boys.

  • Fav song from 80s

  • @thenewfella1994 , Those were my favorite when I was your age. I'm 32 now and I still love them. The Smiths should be required for all young men.

  • It is so nice and great. Russian fan.

  • The funny thing is that a group like the SMITHS that on paper simply does not make sense would never fly today. Thanks to GOD for the 1980s where such things were possible.

  • One of the best live versions of a song I've heard. Still loving it quarter of a century on

  • @flowerpower168

    That's Craig Gannon.

He replaced Andy Rourke on Bass, after the rest of the band kicked him out for drug abuse. Andy rejoined The Smiths a few weeks later, and so Craig took to Rhythm Guitar.

    He is using Johnny's Rickenbacker.

He was only in the band for less than a year, I think.

    Hope that helps. ;)

  • sigh. I miss guitars.

  • Johnny Marr is cool as fuck!!

  • morrissey looks like roger federer

  • @Ivek89 you mean roger federer looks like morrissey

  • hahah moriseys soo beast hahah i got glasses like him.

  • Great song <3333

  • One of the greatest tracks of any decade. FACT.

  • Great Rickenbacker sound

  • who's the guy with the rickenbacker??

  • @flowerpower168 It's Craig Gannon. He was originally hired to replace Rourke in 1986, but once Rourke returned they put him on rythym.

  • @flowerpower168 is johnny marr!!

  • @flowerpower168 is johnny marr!!

oopss!! i have no idea :D

  • They were great live, on record, and even on the stupid Whistle Test! Just a great band. I don't believe songs will ever be written with that much bile ever again. Miss the Smiths. Still one of my favorite bands to listen to.

  • the best bands ever!!!

    FANTASTIC

  • Isso é som !

  • Never get sick of this!!

  • Morrissey is GOD!

  • Hi from Turkey The Smiths, i love this song.. its great

  • TIGHT band live!! <3

  • I'm quite sure that this is the best that any band has ever sounded live. It's fucking perfect, like sound in 3d or something.

  • Thanks a million,Amazing!

    From Tokyo.

  • The best song ever.

    The best band ever.

    Thanks The Smiths.

  • Diggin these dance moves!

  • really A GREAT BAND !!!

    thanks for your music !!!

    From Argentina !!

  • ...now I know how joan of arc felt

as the flames rose to her roman nose

  • Ah...The Smiths...the great romance of my youth. I've never been able to work out whether they saved or ruined my life. Probably both...though it's certainly true things always seemed incomplete after they broke up. It was all downhill after that...but thanks for the memories anyway, you beautiful people, you!

  • Pure perfection. I was 12yrs old 26/10/86 London Palladium with my brother and sister. Opened with Queen is Dead closed with Big Mouth, flood lights blasting into the crowd as Mike hit it at the end. 'Love for a lifetime' Morrissey

  • @madgooner74

i wasnt even born then, but know good music when i hear it!!!

  • Damn - this is sure repeat worthy stuff.

  • Best band ever. FACT.

  • God they sound good with the second guitarist.

  • Thank you for this document. This is really great ! So many souvenirs... More than twenty years after, I continue to watch The Smiths with my child's eyes.

(Sorry if my english is bad, but I'm french !)

  • the smiths looking cool as fuck as always

  • After listening to the playing of Marr, I want to go smash my guitar.

  • Wow. I have loved the smith s from the beginning and this a great LIVE footage

  • When? When will Johnny Mar and Morrissey reunite!

  • love the dancing. ;)

  • @punkgirl1984 This is basically the reason why people think white people can't dance. But they don't get Morrissey :)

  • Everybody has a song that kinda sums them up :P

  • THE best band in the world! XD

  • could listen a houndred times and never get old

  • im an old fella now but fu@ck me this takes me back hay ho happy days

  • As much as I love pretty much every the Smiths ever did, this song stands out, not just for its lyrics, but also because musically, I think its the most complex and absolutely gorgeous composition they ever wrote. I mean, listen to that guitar part, and how perfectly it complements Moz's voice? And for that matter, the vocal part is wonderful too. This is really complicated music, especially considering they were placed in the "Pop" genre... Love the Smiths!!!

  • @Merrycat2 Agreed, in spades. My very favorite song by them, they're firing on all cylinders for this one--the bass, the great drum break in the middle, the lyrics and the vocals, and of course Johnny Marr's guitars. I also love the background vocals in the studio version (if anyone has a live version showing the backup singers, that'd be a plus!).

  • @Merrycat2 well original i played metal guitar by stuff like 80's metallica and more heavy current stuff, however i tried to learn This Charming Man the other day... it was Friggin hard

  • @Merrycat2 fully agree, the composition is brilliant.

  • @Merrycat2 About the fusion between Marr and Morrissey, I definitely prefer That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore. The outro is... Just perfect.

  • @AnnHauzerman Ok debate on. The 'fusion' between Marr and Morrissey reaches its absolute peak with The Boy With The Thorn in His Side.

  • @rabbitisrich The Boy With The Thorn In His Side is a really good song, and, indeed, Marr and Morrissey did a great job about melody. But, in the end of That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore, voices and guitars become one unique sound, it is not only a question of composition, but also a work on the sound itself. I don't know any other song which gives me this impression of such a unity.

  • These guys are like the U.K. version of REM. Not in a copycat way, but because of the excellence and influence of both bands.

  • sweetness ohhhh sweetness i was only joking!!!!

  • @606grain watch the movie homo!

  • Thats some kinda wicked Guitar playing. Another funny viewpoint by Morrissey too.

  • F*cking brilliant!

  • amazing performance. amazing band. which 1 is marr the one with the les paul or the rick??

  • @jimzer Johnny Marr is the one with the shades and the Les Paul I think

  • fantastic!!!

  • became The Queen is Dead today for my birthday and am so happy!

  • Like the taj mahal, one you've seen The Smith you should have your eyes and tongue cut out.

  • 2:07 LOVE IT

    80´S The Best

  • And a rare glimpse of Andy Kershaw, before he went off on one!!!

  • i think its better without the high pitched singer too.

  • @varoujanx666 the high pitch singer in the album track is morrissey!!

  • Cool love it and without the chipmunk girl backup vocal it sounds so much better.

  • @MrMiket79 couldn't agree more.

  • @MrMiket79

    Hello MrMiket,

I htink the chipmunk girl is actually a recording of Morrissey's vocal speeded up and dubbed into the song.

    Regards

    Jon

  • The world would be a considerably shittier place without this band.

  • @afivey Voltaire's world in which electricity was never discovered and Morrissey is queen of England, however, is a considerably more awesome place.
