It is written in "John Denver Wikipedia" under "career":
"When Denver ended his business relationship because of Weintraub's focus on other projects, Weintraub threw Denver out of his office and called him a Nazi."
Good to know that even his grandmother was a German. I am German and I know how often stupid people can`t shut up their evil tongues, saying "Nazi"to every German they meet.
I am not a proud nationalist in my heart or thoughts. I even love an US Lt. Col., Airforce...
His father was an original German, but an US Lt. Col. in the Air Force, a strong pilot and officer. John also was a good pilot, a good father and a believer in Jesus Christ.
I have read in Wikipedia, that he was offended "Nazi".... all over this world are many, many "Nazis" - most of them are those who offened others who have done nothing wrong. GOD KNOWS who are the Nazis.... I hope to meet John in heaven. I truly hope he is there. God may bless his family who still is on earth.
@PraiseAndLove John's father, Henry John Deutschendorf Snr, enlisted in the USAF in 1940 and served with great distinction rising to the rank of ( I think ) Lt Colonel. I really have no idea if he was 'an original German' or just or German extraction - John's grandmother was certianly born German. Where your Nazi references come from I have no idea. Whether John was a believer in Jesus Christ I have no idea ( and no interest)
It's always that way, isn't it? The hope of peace is most always embraced by those least able to effect it. For me, the hope started with Peter, Paul & Mary's rendition of Pete Seeger's "Where Have All the Flowers Gone". But, since John, there's been a dearth in the youthful message of peace. I've come to believe that peace among cultures and across races is impossible. Only by some divine intervention will there be peace - human beings cannot get it done. Hope you made it, John.
I'm sitting here, tears streaming down my face, for dear God, how I wish John Denver's dream had come true. I'm weary of war, of hate, of children and mothers and daddys dying, of corruption, of evil, of lies and deceit. If only this one dream of all dreams ever dreamed would come true. God bless you John, you were the greatest visionary humanity ever had.
@TNMamaBear Amen. J.D. was like a rock wich hate broke against. I liked the part about sin. Sin isn't smoking a cigartte or having a beer. Sin is judging others: cultures and races of people. ALL people are God's people.
John help us with your Spirit of Love to bring PEACE here on earth...I Love your poem and all you represented to bring Peace, Love, and Preservation to our Planet. I Love this poem and song, thank you for posting it! Keep the Vision of Peace.
I seem to recall the theatre was then called Apollo Coventry. I'm sure there would be more of a local record although at the time I was living in Redditch. We are talking near 30 years ago but dates woulf be within one or two of each other. All together I saw about 11 concerts from Wembley Arena (the first) to a final one at NEC about 15 years ago. To me these two will always be the best. For one man to entertain a crowd for two plus hours with just a guitar. pure talent.
I can remember the night in the theatre when this was recorded. The nagic never dies. One man, his guitar and a message. So good I saw the same show in Coventry a couple of nights after. Wonderful memory of simply the best there has been. Thank you for posting
@jarvismax1 Oddly I'm actually from Coventry - where did he play in Cov ? The old Coventry Theatre ? I saw him live just the once.............at the NEC some years after this :-)
It takes both parties to have peace. Sadly there are those who insist on hating. I've come face to face with those people and found that they will only accept your peace offering to stab you in the back. That's why I dedicated so much of my life to fighting.... in order to give you time and opportunity to achieve peace with those willing. Please do not waste the sacrifice of my life that I have freely given to give you that time.

Beutiful guy beautiful heart beautiful music beautiful words-so true even today- there's still time for peace I wish everyone would follow his example
If we only have the same principle as John, PEACE would truly reign. But God gave us the free will and i WIish the we will all use our free will for the good of all the people on earth.
aw... I still miss John til this day... he is one of my earliest and most treasured musical influences and my VERY FIRST album ever...
he was an Amazing singer, songwriter, Earthsteward and caretaker of all things living wild and free... as it should be...
I have MANY favorite singers/groups, songwriters, but John is at the top and his music has Always "touched" me more than any others, it "speaks" to me and my heart... I am a true "Mountain" spirit myself...
Thank-you windsong for sharing this peaceful song. How sweet it was. God was so good to give John Denver to us for as long as He did. John served his time well for all mankind. May God cont. to use John's lovely voice in mighty ways. ~~Ava`~~
This is fabulous. Peace, that's something so many of us seek, yet so many of us cannot see. John Denver showed how peace could be, a part of you and part of me. He did so in the songs he sang, when bombs glared and bells rang. And on a special Christmas Eve, he sang a song I still believe. It is the Peace Carol I seek, with lyrics and background volumes they speak. This song speaks to me in so many ways, I want to share the celebration at the end of this year, to bring peace to all, forever.
Unfortunately I will not be here to see the out outcome of todays wars which seem to rage across our world....we had hoped we could pass to you a world without the hatred and war that has taken so many berore and during my life time....i hope that someone will pick up the cause for peace....
@lovepification Yes I can think of one thing for sure more precious than the heart of this person. That would be the life, death and resurrection of the man who so inspired him.
The only way we will ever have peace is by God working I'm the heart of man. Gods word penetrates even to the bone. John understood this and this song speaks of it. As long as time exists in our free will most people will choose sin.
Unfortunately my generation's hatred of war and love of peace somehow lost their statement and evolved into Bush's attack on Iraq. Somehow evolved into people only looking our for number one. Like the prior generation did. How sad. Did nothing change? Does nothing change?
I do miss John Denvers music - and the music that was to be. But who among us will go when out time comes - doing something we truly love? He did seek and gain "grace in every step he takes!"
as our american memorial day holiday approaches, i don't think there could be a better song to listen to. peace starts within each of us. it is up to us to spread it or not. thanks for this wonderful post, windsong1962. i'm sharing this with my friends. many stars!!
Thank you for sharing this David. I surely miss John. His life was that of an American hero, spreading love, hope and a positive message to everyone. Peace, Hope and Love to all this memorial day.
Yes, JD's unexpected demise was very sad. I still at times wonder what his take would be on all that's transpired since his untimely death in 1997. Many thanks for sending this, he was certainly a favourite artist of mine too.
David, thank you for sharing this song with me - I know I´m a bit late - but better late than never I think. I don´t know how old the song is, but today it´s a very actually song.
This song was written by Ed McCurdy in 1951. Too bad we haven't learned anything.. Simon & Garfunkel recorded it. Still a great song today! Neither S&G or Denver recorded the last verse:
When I awoke, twas but a dream, and peace a dirty word .
I tried to tell them of my dream, but not a word they heard .
And then it got me fighting mad, and I knew just what I'd do.
I'd fight nonviolently for peace, until my dream came true.
one of my favorite songs of his. i discovered it after he died. everytime i hear his music it hits me another way. as the years go by, he still lives in new unseen ways in my heart. long live his music.
My comment "a means towarsds the end of peace, harmony and love" has been misunderstood. A means toward an end is a simple piece of idiomatic Engish: public appearances were the means ; the end was peace, harmony and love. "End" here is "goal" or "objective". ;-)
his voice i so sweet.he was full of love for the humanity, and very worry about the enviroment, one the best singer y never heard. unfortunately he passed so fast for the life. but his legacy is unforgetable
John Denver was such a great performer, songwriter, and man......environmentalist, conservationist, pacifist. His songs have depth, emotion, insight, all the things that are missing in today's music. He speaks of the things that are important to all of us but today no one is listening. What happened to our society in the last 30 years? Where are good men like JD today, men with conscience and integrity? They certainly aren't in our government and CEO's and that's a big part of the problem!
John Denver sang this song in protest of the war in Viet Nam. John was a pilot his plane crashed both of his tanks were out of gas!!! I smell "foul play!!!"
Of course, no one wants war to continue. But in a war where the outcome will determine whether people will be left in freedom or slavery, you don't want to give up the fight and leave the field to the totalitarians and the dictators. The American Revolution, the U.S. Civil war, World War II, and Vietnam are examples. Those who fight for the cause of freedom must stay the course until victory is assured. The people of Iraq would certainly vote for that approach.
My point is, that you can be for peace, and hate war, and at the same time understand why it is necessary to fight for one's freedom, and the freedom of others, when necessary. Pacifism by comparison is a narrow ideology that does not recognize that distinction, which would leave people in chains, just to keep the guns silent. I don't believe JD was that narrow minded, and that's why I objected to putting the label of pacifist on him.
All U.S. combat forces were out of Vietnam by 1973. This song was performed in 1982. I don't see any connection to the Vietnam War, which basically ended, when the Communist North, invaded the U.S. Aligned South, overan them, and enslaved them. Yes, the people in South Vietnam now have "peace" inside of what amounts to a Communist prison camp where no one has any rights, and religious believers are rountinely tortured by the regime. That's not the peace that JD is longing for.
hypnotized by the rythume and vibe of the watching eye - deep inside - where we are told to not pry - hidden in the night - the fight continues in the day - shh they say - you better not pray - we are preying on you - they shoo - say put on your shoes - get ready to run - the rungs of the ladder - chadder clatter --- laughter - disaster - fellow brothers and sisters - the hour is near - do not fear - heaven is at hand despite craze in the land - take my hand but better yet jesus is the man
I remember hearing him sing this song in Washington,DC at a protest for the Viet Nam war, that was on a DVD I have..Pater, Paul amd Mary were there as well and sang another song with him..
I agree- I live in peace then I have nothing but my ex fighting with me for no reason and half the time I do not even know why we are arguing. He loves to pick a fight.
since u call him ex, then let all the things past. look forward and remember... peace is the rule of every step in everyday. Do love him and i'm sure peace will in your heart forever.
This video touched our hearts. We're both up in years, know we've not that many years left ahead of us, but for those behind us in younger years we truely HOPE that the world situation will get better. I pray for more people through out the world to let LOVE, GOD'S LOVE COME INTO THEIR HEARTS, to help make this a better world. There has and always will be wars, GOD'S LOVE in man's heart is something that can conquer so much through out the many nations to help prevent these wars.
Thank you for sharing this awesome message of Peace.. John Denver had a voice, message and song that helped me a lot at age 14 and now at 46 still do. He may have ''passed over'' however his music ''lives'' on.
spritwilfbro, I grew up listening to JD and even though he was made fun of ( so was I) he was the only singer I ever just wanted to thank. /thank god his music lives on.
I loved his music in the early/mid 70's and sometimes took some crap from my hard rock friends but I loved him...and now I'm 46 years old and still love his music...peace
i can remember in my 7th grade the teacher that i had let us listen to his muisic from the album that she had during the whole class. that was 1974 and his muisc will live forever, america was hook to his muisc at the peak of his career.
John had the voice that made you stop and listen, and when he did songs like this one, it sqeezes your heart and brings tears to your eyes. In losing John, we lost not only one of the world's best singers and song writers, but also a truly sincere wildlife, world and peace advocate. We miss you John.
Amen. And his speaking voice was as sweet as his singing voice. I tear up just hearing him speak, that gentle tone, was a mirror to his soul. What was it about this special man? The world needs more souls like Johns. ;-(
Very true.John's speaking voice was very distinctive. I remember if I came in and he was being interviewed on the radio, there was no mistaking that voice.Back in the 70s JD told a story of going to Disneyland, hoping the beard he grew would disguise him,but he said as soon as he opened his mouth to order a hotdog every 1 knew who he was! Another reason why Chad Lowe's portrayal was so crappy-did he never listen to John talk? John had a resonant warm tone, not the squeaky yelp Chad gave him.
THANK YOU WIND LOVE THIS VIDEO AND BOTH SONGS BUT STRANGEST DREAM! GREAT PHILISOPHICAL SPEECH FROM JOHN. Great song from sombody.. but John man he choosees the best songs to do
Perfect in so many ways...it tells a thousand stories of a thousand meanings...but every one is a "dream" thats worthy of remembering JD. Peace to each and every one who listens reads or simply thinks about live and harmont throughout :)
God Bless You JD, thank you for this great poem and the meaning will echo like the love that echos in my heart and this song , my life mate is our song we want peace above all else , do not allow war in heart or in our streets or homes , let peace ring out , peace what I want to give you ED, You Gave it too me, thank you, forever true.
My husband and I have started a new first of the day and end of the day ritual. We listen to John saying the Peace Poem when we are just waking up in the morning and just falling asleep at night. Quite a peaceful way to open and close the day. With hopes of living with the peace message through out the day.

We will Never forget u John

This is fabulous. Peace, that's something so many of us seek, yet so many of us cannot see. John Denver showed how peace could be, a part of you and part of me. He did so in the songs he sang, when bombs glared and bells rang. And on a special Christmas Eve, he sang a song I still believe. It is the Peace Carol I seek, with lyrics and background volumes they speak. This song speaks to me in so many ways, I want to share the celebration at the end of this year, to bring peace to all, forever.

Would that any of us could do better.

Yes, JD's unexpected demise was very sad. I still at times wonder what his take would be on all that's transpired since his untimely death in 1997. Many thanks for sending this, he was certainly a favourite artist of mine too.

He just popped in to be with us for awhile to share the universal message.
The guys with the guitars share it over and over and over - to try to get our sight to turn inside - to try to understand.
The guys with guns get all the attention and will kill if you don't pay ; don't adhere - they make scars upon the land.

My comment "a means towarsds the end of peace, harmony and love" has been misunderstood. A means toward an end is a simple piece of idiomatic Engish: public appearances were the means ; the end was peace, harmony and love. "End" here is "goal" or "objective". ;-)
ScaeanGate 3 years ago
his voice i so sweet.he was full of love for the humanity, and very worry about the enviroment, one the best singer y never heard. unfortunately he passed so fast for the life. but his legacy is unforgetable

I guess i would say he was a peacemaker that wanted WAR to END .I would assume that would mean any war
whether it be WW1, WW11, Viet Nam, or todays Iraq/soon to be Pakistan.
ninammam 3 years ago
Of course, no one wants war to continue. But in a war where the outcome will determine whether people will be left in freedom or slavery, you don't want to give up the fight and leave the field to the totalitarians and the dictators. The American Revolution, the U.S. Civil war, World War II, and Vietnam are examples. Those who fight for the cause of freedom must stay the course until victory is assured. The people of Iraq would certainly vote for that approach.
HomewardBoundJournal 3 years ago

HomewardBoundJournal 3 years ago
John Denver made every public appearance a means towards the end of peace, harmony and love. You can;t really say that about many perforrmers.

hypnotized by the rythume and vibe of the watching eye - deep inside - where we are told to not pry - hidden in the night - the fight continues in the day - shh they say - you better not pray - we are preying on you - they shoo - say put on your shoes - get ready to run - the rungs of the ladder - chadder clatter --- laughter - disaster - fellow brothers and sisters - the hour is near - do not fear - heaven is at hand despite craze in the land - take my hand but better yet jesus is the man

Amen. And his speaking voice was as sweet as his singing voice. I tear up just hearing him speak, that gentle tone, was a mirror to his soul. What was it about this special man? The world needs more souls like Johns. ;-(
mountainDreamer 3 years ago 8
Very true.John's speaking voice was very distinctive. I remember if I came in and he was being interviewed on the radio, there was no mistaking that voice.Back in the 70s JD told a story of going to Disneyland, hoping the beard he grew would disguise him,but he said as soon as he opened his mouth to order a hotdog every 1 knew who he was! Another reason why Chad Lowe's portrayal was so crappy-did he never listen to John talk? John had a resonant warm tone, not the squeaky yelp Chad gave him.

My husband and I have started a new first of the day and end of the day ritual. We listen to John saying the Peace Poem when we are just waking up in the morning and just falling asleep at night.
