  • now im eyeballing the vase in the corner of my house...looking over...-walks over takes flowers out-oh SHIT yeah! this thing plays and makes awesome noises!! but its so heavy :/ ... and yes. I really did that. im sitting here playing a vase.

  • AWESOME!!!!

that has to beat the absolute piss out of your hands! Sound amazing thiugh

  • awesome dude!

    great beats

  • its just a vase with a hole............

  • @423Longboarders indeed. i'm a big fan of the words "just" and "only" -- how easy they are to say....

  • @Kbosh it might seem like a vase with a hole, but indeed it is a vase with a number of wholes

  • @423Longboarders what an idiot...

  • It's just a vase with a hole............. ²

  • @423Longboarders so build one ! I want to see....

  • @423Longboarders By the way, a vase with no hole is a trinket or a paperweight.

  • @423Longboarders, yep and to make of these things takes detail orentation and skill. Try getting a ball of clay.. try making an instrument, like a flute, learned that 3rd grade... man was that a trial and error until.... i got it to whistle!

  • 0:58 is epic

  • what you just did is amazing *_*

  • Great job

  • bravo

  • I'm pretty sure that's a madga not an udu

  • question, its unseen in the video, but does your Udu have a hole in the side?? I am just trying my hand at making some and in the future might try to make one of that size... would be very ambitious for sure!

    Great sound! Love it!

    Kaz

  • @Battlewear

Yes, there is a hole on the left side generating all the bass tones -- typical Udu design but played with some S. Indian chops. Good luck on the drum making.

  • @Kbosh i too want to make one of these- how thick are the walls?

  • lol, omg, i thought it was for cooking

  • @1kash123 lol..

  • thia white boy is suck!!

  • @realblackxxxx ur stupid. just cuz your black (if you are) doesnt mean you can go and say this guy sucks cuz he's white. if you dont get what he's playing then take some music lessons or something

  • what is it made out of? it doesn't sound like ceramic.

  • pro

  • what makes this instrument different from any jar out there? i don't mean to sound offensive, i'm curious about the details/culture of this instrument.

  • That's like playing a Ghattam!

even the construct of this is like a Ghattam.. that's an Indian classical instrument.

  • is that paul rodriguez?

  • it sounds like the Goblet Drum, it's an egyptian drum "Darbouka"

  • スゲ~

    最高!

  • كنها جرة فووول (*_^)

  • Awesome, I wonder if you could smoke out of it? Hahaha jk This dude is fuckin beast

  • I like it :)

  • sounds nice mate - my respect to you for trying to learn and become good at major percussion instruments. Hard Work!

  • You're good!

  • thank god of igbos from nigeria who inspired udu igbo udu -bata yoruba ,oluwa ese,o.

  • I agree with you 100%. I'm looking forward to getting a bigger udu like the one in this video.

I have a small one that you can see in my video under this one, but I'm new to hand drumming. I did post a response video showing my simple groove. Now, I need to get my fingers flying like this guy!

    peace,

    Tim

  • I'm just a beginner at this drum, but I love it. I'm playing a simple groove after only playing it a few times.

This guy is very good. We learn over time.

    peace...

  • yeahhhh mannnn you did it! You are a master!

  • Can you please make a instructional video on your finger technique!!!!!!!!!!! =]

  • It would be super-practic

  • its an African drum from Nigeria u fool! dont make stupid comments.

  • Comment removed

  • lol, u said, "I would rather see an authentic INDIAN person playting it." implying that u assumed the Udu drum was from india. were u not sir?

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice, looks like you are using Indian techniques, and taking advantage of the idiophone aspect rather than the aerophone tonality.

  • ...this is dope really nice....

  • oh man yes!!!

  • wow thats the best sounding udu drum ever

  • Ai que bueno yo quiero aprender a tocar el uuuudu asi!

  • i would like to buy one of these; how can i tell one is up to par? wouldnt want to get a low quality one

  • go with LP percussions. i have an Udu Utar from them which has a great sound. they run about $150 without shipping. try Ebay.

  • i do this on my belly every morning!

  • Hehe :

  • udu is igbo language meaning our bass making instrumental tone

  • Great! It sounds cool!

  • thats sick!!!

  • mira q copado

  • Dang I want one of these

  • Hehe Shiva in the window

  • Probably a Viking in the window lol

  • nice nice xD but...is there a big different to play udu compared to cajon ?

  • Ah, what a pleasant piece to listen to.

  • vi tambien tus otros videos, eres un maestro!! increible!!!

  • Very nice, I hope to upload some percussion videos soon. This is very beautiful!

  • i saw that 12/8 in their

  • i think that is the right technique my udu just doesnt sound as loud because the walls are alot thicker its quite quiet

  • Indeed, I am applying pure tabla technique to the Udu -- tira kita taka. Just jazzing it up, having fun, keeping it flowing -- 4/4 to 12/8 and back again. Simple tihai. Thanks for the comments.

  • thanx man i will try it out on my own udu!

  • sorry 42 seconds!

  • awesome....one question any tips on the right hand technique at 43secs cheers :)

  • looks like he's doing a "ti re ki te ta ka" sort of thing i know from playing tabla. right hand ring/middle finger together, then pointer finger, then left hand (twice). thats how i'd go about playing something like this, might not be what he's doing, he's going so fast you cant really see exactly whats going on. very clean and rhythmic playing!

  • Fantastic! It was pleasure for me to listen this. Thanks

  • Goodshii hit da pot.

  • bigg balls!

  • The South Indian/Indian counterpart is called Ghatam. This drums also has similar technical nuances.

  • fuck ya

  • Played with fans?

Music is about enjoying yourself and rhythm isnt genetic.

  • There is no question we owe a great debt to our sisters and brothers in Nigeria who are the source of these amazing ceramic instruments that are now made and enjoyed by people all over the world. Peace.

  • it sounds a bit racist!!!!!with your kind of thoughts, please, don´t try to play flamenco...

    buff!!!!!

  • That's pretty disparaging.

  • Awesome!

  • here u see a gorilla with a vase xD

    sounds awesome

  • wow, i've never seen one of these drums played before. Your playing is extremely clean and articulation is stellar!!!

i'd give it 6 stars if i could

  • very nice, how much???

i need a udu drum! can your friend make one for me?

  • Wow....wow.....wow

  • great !! where do you buy this istrument?

  • this is a custom made udu made by a friend at a college in boston -- it is very special ineed.

  • Is the drum just a normal clay pot or is there another hole in it? Very nice work is it pit fired or raku?

  • one hole on the side one hole on top. this vid u cant fully hear the nice bass tone from the side hole though.

  • Thank you very much for the information. May I have some more please? Side hole on your left? Is this drum a traditional coil built pit fired piece? Can you link me to the person that made the udu? I would like to try to make one myself.

  • no problem. u can essentially put the side hole on wichever side u feel comfortable with ur dominant hand. In nigeria traditionally they start by molding a slab for the bottom half, and then coiling the rest of the way up, and then they pit fire it.

  • I think I have what I need now thanks.

  • so much talent ! thank you for posting this.

  • amazing, truly amazing
