@theendofit the new trilogy and the old trilogy just attracted different audiences. The original was simple and easy to understand in a "Good vs evil" sort of way with easily likable characters and not the slightest bit of crossover between the dark and the light til one moment in the end. and in the new trilogy was more complex in the way that the main character would ultimately become the villain so the line was blurred and you had to think about it for it to make sense within anakin's head

I think it would do better without the whole "going back in time" business. That transition to the Empire from the Republic is one of the more interesting aspects of the Star Wars franchise, I don't think it needs to be muddied by a Terminator-esque time travel spin to it.

The TV series has been talked about over 10 years, they starting drawing up scripts for it and refining it for content almost a 7 years ago. In that time they have had a few great space Scifi shows come and go like Farscape, and Firefly. That being said this should have shed some light for how the Star Wars TV series producers should proceed, and how to keep people watching. *shrug* Lets hope they dont butcher it too badly.

Lee, I love you, but I have to disagree. He's done a lot of great things since Episode VI. The Indiana Jones trilogy (I don't know why pepole say there's a fourth one - it doesn't exist), Labrynth, and The Land Before Time. All of which he wrote and produced. He didn't direct any movies between A New Hope and The Phantom Menace. And the original idea for A New Hope was terrible and it took everyone else involved to change the story and make it work.
I don't mind trying to create a Star Wars show, but I think the time-travel idea is terrible.
However, I think there's a reason for this. George Lucas has stated his reasons for not making more movies is that fanboys everywhere do nothing but rage at him no matter what he does. I wouldn't be surprised if he's doing this on purpose to piss everyone off and troll all the haters. On the other hand. . He's a little crazy and might actually think it's a legitimately good idea.
I'm excited. If it's shit I just won't watch it not just complain about George Lucas 24/7 because at the end of the day I love star wars and he was the guy that created it.
Isn't StarWars one of the franchises with thousands upon thousands of really high-quality spin-off novels? And wasn't there (until recently) a massive online community of fans who had been working, with Lucas' blessing as I understand, on solidifying StarWars Canon?
Why not just hire those people to write the script? Or steal their ideas, I mean that **IS** the prerogative of every series creator (even if it's a dick move) and at least then the story wouldn't suck.

You know this show could be good. One of the many many reasons the prequels were bad was because Lucas didnt take the time to write the script. He wrote as fast as he could, stretched it to fit 2 hours and threw it at the actors. Well this has been in development since 2005 - 7 years. So it has got to be better than the prequels.

according go the rules of star wars cannon, TV shows are lower cannonisity, thus cannot change the movie cannon, only enhance it. Thus any plot to kill Vader is doomed to fail.

If they got good writers like people from HBO or Showtime it could be a great, gritty sci-fi show. I as a Star Wars fan have to look for the good in the new, rather than just rewatching my original trilogy boxset from fricking the 90's people.

And I would like to think that as the person that created the story, he should have full control of what he does with it. @123ghl321 Lucas created it. But he did collaborate with Gary Kurtz, who, in my opinion, tried to ground the story and added darkness and depth to it. He and Lucas reportedly clashed a lot, so when Kurtz left after Empire Strikes Back, Lucas was free to change the story to less dark and more happy-go-lucky. While I don't agree with Kurtz's plan to have Han Solo die in ROTJ, I disliked how Lucas turned the whole thing into almost a kid's movie. The balance is gone.

With the new trilogy he had complete control and screwed it up. Independent writers in the extended universe have done more good for the franchise than Lucas has EVER done.

I've loved Star Wars since the beginning...sure the new movies had some really crappy moments and characters, but its Lucas' world...what he says goes. All in all I love the franchise and I HOPE that there will be a Star Wars TV show featuring the time between RotS and ANH. Though if Lucas doesnt cool it on the CGI these shows are going to cost him as much as it did a full length feature film...but i'll watch it.

Ok, a time travel plot, that sounds pretty damn stupid. Once you have established that time travel is possible and can alter the universe in a franchise it's pretty much game over for making any damn sense. I mean just look at Star Trek, they literally had to write in a bunch guys in time machines from even further in the future who just go around fixing all the plotholes time travel causes on a regular basis. The TV series has been talked about over 10 years, they starting drawing up scripts for it and refining it for content almost a 7 years ago. In that time they have had a few great space Scifi shows come and go like Farscape, and Firefly. That being said this should have shed some light for how the Star Wars TV series producers should proceed, and how to keep people watching. *shrug* Lets hope they dont butcher it too badly.

Lee, I love you, but I have to disagree. He's done a lot of great things since Episode VI. The Indiana Jones trilogy (I don't know why pepole say there's a fourth one - it doesn't exist), Labrynth, and The Land Before Time. All of which he wrote and produced. He didn't direct any movies between A New Hope and The Phantom Menace. And the original idea for A New Hope was terrible and it took everyone else involved to change the story and make it work.

However, I think there's a reason for this. George Lucas has stated his reasons for not making more movies is that fanboys everywhere do nothing but rage at him no matter what he does. Isn't StarWars one of the franchises with thousands upon thousands of really high-quality spin-off novels? And wasn't there (until recently) a massive online community of fans who had been working, with Lucas' blessing as I understand, on solidifying StarWars Canon?
Why not just hire those people to write the script? Or steal their ideas, I mean that **IS** the prerogative of every series creator (even if it's a dick move) and at least then the story wouldn't suck.

You know this show could be good. One of the many many reasons the prequels were bad was because Lucas didnt take the time to write the script. He wrote as fast as he could, stretched it to fit 2 hours and threw it at the actors. Well this has been in development since 2005 - 7 years. So it has got to be better than the prequels.

Too much cyncism SourceFed, how will Star Wars every get better if we keep romantizing the past, and crapping on everything else, the Clone Wars tv series is awesome, as people say those cartoons have more emotion than the prequels, sadly. If they got good writers like people from HBO or Showtime it could be a great, gritty sci-fi show. I as a Star Wars fan have to look for the good in the new, rather than just rewatching my original trilogy boxset from fricking the 90's people.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that George Lucas is the one that created Star Wars, he was the brains behind it. And I would like to think that as the person that created the story, he should have full control of what he does with it. Seriously, whether he does these new stories for money or not, it doesn't matter because at the end of the day, he created the damn thing. @123ghl321 Lucas created it. But he did collaborate with Gary Kurtz, who, in my opinion, tried to ground the story and added darkness and depth to it. He and Lucas reportedly clashed a lot, so when Kurtz left after Empire Strikes Back, Lucas was free to change the story to less dark and more happy-go-lucky. While I don't agree with Kurtz's plan to have Han Solo die in ROTJ, I disliked how Lucas turned the whole thing into almost a kid's movie. The balance is gone.

With the new trilogy he had complete control and screwed it up. Independent writers in the extended universe have done more good for the franchise than Lucas has EVER done.
