Biggest problem is that who many drivers starts learning how to drive in summers. For example I started to learn in winter and now I dont have any problems on icy roads.
Also big problems is that who many drivers dont use winter tires, drive too fast in these conditions. and of course road services.
That's just stupid. Here a truck driver would probably loose his license for driving in those conditions without chains. And I've never seen asphalt damaged due to chains here ever.
Salting of roads do more damage here tbh. They tend to do it to much, even when they could have left the snow on the road, whats left after the plow of course, instead of making it a slush with the damn salt.
I'm not denying that where you live they don't damage the roads. In Northern Ontario they do though. We can get some pretty mean frost heaves on the pavement up here that chains just break right through. Mind you, while they use a lot of salt on the major highways, within city limits they usually use sand....because my car is rusty enough lol
@adge0042 My point is that safety should come before the question of damage to roads or not. I am in Norway in case you wonder, and here we got snowy and/or icy conditions 4-5 months of the year. What we don't see much here is the freezing rain. Here rucks above 3.5T has to bring 3 chains or 7 if it has a trailer.
It seem to me that in a lot of the winter videos cars don't have ABS or ESP. And its also quite evident that these people are not used to the conditions as they do most things wrong :)
When the salt truck can't get enough traction to throw salt on the road that's when it's time to say "fuck it" tell everyone to get off the roads, go home and sit by a fire.

Every video clip was cut off before we could see the full crash! Just as they were about to make impact, it switched to the next!

Find it odd that the salting truck, which I assume is a public services car, don't use tire chains.

@Gazer75 In most places it's illegal, even for public service vehicles. Chains can do some pretty bad damage to asphalt....which sucks
