  • poor sherman tank :(

  • 0:04 amazing echo

  • I strangely remembered the warhead being more powerful than this though...what ammunition was fired? Sub-calibre training rounds?

  • It's still only marginally effective as an anti-ship weapon though. An early '80s round put an Argentinian corvette in dry dock for a mere three days at 500m.

  • @rufust1975

Still a good weapon against old tanks and IFV. But with todays modern tank with reactive armor or chobham armor most shoulder fired weapon are kind useless, except Javelin and other missiles that hits the tank in the roof.

This design is from 1948 and its still good.

  • @Araben13 They have updated it a couple of times since then, the latest version (M3), from 1991 onwards has gone all carbon fibre barrel sheath and aluminium fittings rather than all steel. Shaves about 14lb off of the weight of the rifle itself.

I agree with you about the decreasing effectiveness of most shoulder fired weapons. Case in point, a Challenger 2 managed to drive through an ambush into a ditch in Iraq. Before it could be recovered it took 14 RPGs and a MILAN.

  • @rufust1975 The worst of the damage to the tank was the MILAN knocked the optics out of line, meaning that the driver couldn't see where he was going. Took all of six hours to fix once it had been recovered.

  • @rufust1975

Yeah. i know they have updated it. I use the m3 myself, but it works the same. The only difference is performance is if you use old or modern grenades.

I wouldn't use this against a modern MBT like a Abrams or a Challanger 2 unless it was shooting at me and i had no were to run.

  • @killshot13000 Real life 1.

  • what kind of round was that? sounded like it was rocket propellered. :S no huge boom but with a smoke trail?

  • @monkeyman1140 and alot more reliable

  • They're much better than the RPG7. The smoke trail from an RPG gives away your position.

  • its a shame there ain't more to go around. Every platoon should have one, along w/ other AT weapons. A good crew can get off 6 shots a minute, with different ammo to choose from. A winner definitely.

  • @BookerT48

They should have the 84mm ADM flechette round too, nasty stuff.

  • @BookerT48 in sweden every Skyttegrupp (in english=infrantri squad) we have 3 grg (granat gevär skyttar=granat rifle shooters) who one is the shooter, the second one is the reloader and the third one is the

reserv. And you have 3 ksp skyttar (machine gunner) and one group leader and one vice group leader. They both care one ak5c (swedish standard assualt rifle) and one p-skott (pansarskott= anti pansar round). the 3 Grg skyttar also have an ak5c. So an Skyttegrupp is very dangerous.

  • @superdrumdavid Translated into English, again.

In Sweden, every squad consists of seven soldiers, of which three is being associated with the Carl Gustaf. One of them is the shooter, the second being the loader and the third is commonly used as a reserve. Furthermore, there are three soldiers equipped with machine guns. Apart from these, there are one squad leader and his deputy. All soliders carry the Swedish standard Assault weapon AK5C, including one soldier with an AT-4.

  • @superdrumdavid superb swenglish xD

  • bad co 2

  • The swedish make great anti tank weapons :D

  • chuck norriv

  • what is the advantage of a recoilless rifle vs a free-fire rocket?

  • wtf is that a old sherman? stop shooting at it ass holes, kind a better target insted of history.

  • @88pie88 why?

  • @88pie88 It's a second world war Canadian Ram tank. Theres tons in museums. Those ones have been on ranges since the late 40's and 50's. They've been poked full of holes for over 50/60 years.

  • sooooooooooo fast

  • What I have been taught is that russian at-weapons are penetration optimized, built to cause maximum penetration. However this has often lead to situations were the shaped charge plasma stream only goes in one en and out the other without doing anything but causing a small hole, leaving the tank and crew intact.. Swedish AT-weapons are built however to cause a lot of internal damage sending in shrapnel inside the tank messing up the crew and increasing the chances of detonating fuel and ammo

  • Comment removed

  • Canadian troops. ;)

  • I love how video game and movies always forget that real rockets move so fast you never see them coming.

  • @bigred2989 I love how everyone on youtube references video games and movies when watching clips of real militaries. You people really need to get a life.

  • Rpg 32 ftw

  • Carl Gustaf is a Siriyan production the Swedes is just copying from the Siriyans

  • @vnck25 Yeah! You wish!

  • @GodHatesWar

I don't wish man! Its a fact. Google it will you.

  • @vnck25 No! You keep on wishing, Carl Gustav is as Swedish as it can get!

  • @GodHatesWar

Of course Carl Gustav is Swedish as it gets, but I am not refering to this Dude Carl Gustav, I am talking about the Anti Tank weapon by that name. Do you think the Swedes are dumb enough to put the same name that the Siriyans gave it he he he .Since its a copy they obviously gonna put a pure Swedish name!

  • @vnck25 Were did you get the idea that it's foreign?

  • @GodHatesWar

I am from Germany and its not a German product. So its foreign to me.

  • @vnck25 Why don't you give the me adress to that site which claims that it's not Swedish?

  • @GodHatesWar

Why are you so worried about this, I bet its because you are a Swede ah? he he he

Everything is not on the net okay. I got the information from a weapons expert at a military fair in Berlin sometime back. He went on to say that the original product was Seriyan and the Swedes copied it and did a nice job at copying.

  • @vnck25 Oh! Ok. But i still think Sweden came up whit the weapon. ( Im a patriot)

  • @GodHatesWar

You dont have to be patriotic if you have the facts infront of you,but this is what heard it could be right or wrong.

  • @vnck25

You use energy to spread a false rumour without backing it up at all. Like "i once met someone who claimed to be expert who said". How lame you are who first says "it a factt", "google it" and then it comes down to "somehwat you personally was told". Shame on you, you are just embarrasing.

  • @vnck25 "Why are you so worried about this, I bet its because you are a Swede ah? he he he " yes, why worry at all about whats false and whats truth. he he he.

    Moron.

  • @ghanaboyz

Look at the Russians they use a name like RPG and thats it and the Swedes use Carl Gustaf a very Swedish name in order to cover up their bad deed thats what I am talking. Now look at the Chinese they really dont give a shit about these things they just copy he he he There stuff are cheap and good too

  • @vnck25

Hu? What are you saying? That because the swede use a very swedish name on their product you have a "proof" its a copy cat and a bad deed? Come on.

"Russian use a name like RPG", howl old are you? No point at all talking to you, you just pour out lots of words with litle or no earth grounding. True, Chinese copy a lot with no shame. So what?

  • @ghanaboyz

The Swedes use that name because it is a fucking copy!

Just to convince others that's its Swedish, Karl Gustav my foot! Why couldn't they put a word like DJ Karl or Karl the man! ha ha ha

  • @vnck25 What are you on about? A copy of what? Developed just after WWII it was the only spin stabilised hand- held AT weapon and was superior to all contemporary systems.

  • @g111g

That is true and as you know it was a Siriyan make and the Sweidsh copied it, Thats why they went for a Swedish name! A cover up. Other wise just like the Russians and the Chiese, the Swedes could have given a name like RPG 7, RPG 22 etc.

  • @vnck25 Really? It's just that I would be surprised as Syria was still occupied by France at that time. Can you send a link to some info. What was the Syrian version called?

  • @g111g

I dont know any web link, but there are several books that state the gun was originated in Siriya and later copied by the Swedish.

  • @vnck25 Of course you don't mention either links or book titles as there is no truth in what you are saying.

  • @ghanaboyz

Look at the weapon, can you see its basically a Siriyan design. If its Swedish , the frontal part of the weapon always look likes an "S"

  • @vnck25 Copied it? The Carl Gustaf m48? So pathetic of you. How -and why- can you even spend time for that kind of totaly unsupported lies?

The history of this weapon is well documented in publish sources. Try wiki.

  • @ghanaboyz

I usually get my information by dreaming ha ha ha

  • @vnck25 The Russian RPG7 is nothing like the Carl Gustav. The RPG7 is a Rocket Propelled Grenade; the Carl Gustav 84mm is a recoilless rifle.

  • @xFogxofxWarx

    What's your point?

So instead of having a RPG7 in your ass, you would consider a 84mm round ? is that it ha ha ha

  • @vnck25 my point is there are nothing alike; and not a "rip off" of anything. I'd rather have the RPG7 face against me; less chance of that inaccurate thing hitting me.

  • @xFogxofxWarx

So you consider RPG7 to be inaccurate. Are you from the West Virginia lunatic asylum?

  • @vnck25 I'm not even from the United States; and they are less accurate yes. They are also less reliable. I don't know about the ones you've seen on your video games; but in Afghanistan, our boys have seen quite a few of them fire, hit a target, and do NOTHING! They fail more often than any recoilless rifle.

  • @vnck25 - A copy of WHAT you little tard? The Gustav was first used in 1948. It's a recoilless rifle, not an RPG and its design predates anything the Syrian have ever used or developed...

  • @broadjumper1

Everyone knows that RPG and a recoilless rifle are two different things.

Syrians have been using the design before the Swedes copied from them and the Swedes hurriedly named it after a Swedish King so that the world sees its as a real Swedish deal. The dumb Syrians were as usual, ingnorant!

  • @vnck25 - And your proof that the Sryians had developed used a recoilless rifle design before 1948 is where?

    Oh, you don't have any...

    Huge surprise

  • @broadjumper1

Wait, wait.. don't ask questions and give answers to them right away, give me a chance... I will provide the needed proof if you bend down and stretch your legs lolz

  • @vnck25 - How much time do you need to provide the needed proof?

    Years?

Sorry, but if you had any, you'd have responded with it. You're out of credibility so excuse us for callin 'bullshit" on on your comments. Prove it or STFU.

  • @broadjumper1

    It basically depend on you.

How long can you strech your legs apart? Thats the time that I will need to prove once in for all!

  • represent CF wut wuuuut!

  • Recoiless rifles were great back in the day, but it is time to upgrade.

  • Carl XVI Gustaf is the king of Sweden and this weapon is named after him.

    It's spelled Carl Gustav though.

The USA is almost completely supplied with anti-tank weapons from Sweden, the Carl Gustav and AT-4 being the main ones.

  • I doubt that it is named after our present King, because the weapon was constructed in 1948.

  • Han föddes 1946 och det var samma år som man utvecklade det är GRGt.

  • Nå, där har du en poäng så jag medger att jag kan ha varit något förhastad. Ursäkta.

  • Don't forget the Javelin.

  • javelin is the most fail anti-tank weapon on earth and youd be dead before even getting the chance of pulling the trigger forget call of duty the 84mm carlos is way more effective

  • Yeah, why would you want to attack a tank where the armor is the weakest, the top? Real men die pointlessly trying to bludgeon through modern reactive and chobham-type armoring. Oorah.

  • @roguespear91 No, real men going front assault against a tank and trying to chew throu the armour and then bite the crew to death, that how real men are taking out a tank :D

  • Comment removed

  • @MeanBacon The javelin is one of the best anti-tank weapon systems in the world. While the CG may have more versatility in what it is effective against. The javelin is easily the better choice for heavy armor destruction all around.

  • @x1mmx lol funny the Cg weights around 60pounds and carring that weapon is a pain in the ass considering the javelin is twice in size and its ammo is even worst be my guest to fucking carry it but yeah its the best weapon

  • its spelt that way because it was named after the guy who made it, carl gustav, you think if they named it after the king they would have at least spelt it letter by letter.

  • Don't listen to the clown from Arvidsjaur - he doesn't have a clue about what he is talking about - and he's also a nazi whore!

This weapon isn't named after anyone specifically, and least of all "our" present king - the name of this model is granatgevär m/48, and was manufactured by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori in Eskilstuna (Carl Gustafs Stad being an older name for Eskilstuna, called so because the town was granted "city" privileges by 17th century swedish king Karl X Gustav in 1659).

  • Hence the "Carl Gustaf" nickname, which is not model specific, but also used for other Carl Gustaf weapons, e.g. the kpist m/45.

    And fuck your king, "Soldaten".

  • @SoldatenArvidsjaur23

the preloaded rocket tubes to the javelin

    are also made in Sweden.

  • @SoldatenArvidsjaur23 it's not named after him, the weapon was designed in 1948 and he wasn't even the crown prince then; it's named after Carl Gustaf stads Gevärsfaktori, the firm that made it (now called Bofors Carl Gustaf)

  • @SoldatenArvidsjaur23 AT-4's a sexy, sexy, launcher.

  • @SoldatenArvidsjaur23 the both launchers are sux.buy the rpg7 from RUSSIA!

  • @ruben3198 RPG-7 is sssoo old like the AK-47, worthless piece of metal.

  • @Breakneckhydra1 yes hey hav old HSTORY,but hey are not old.after 1990,we moderate theme,so the 30 year old gun stilling best at now in 2010-1011,and gonna be till 2500 year, okay?

  • @Breakneckhydra1 Then why is it still hard at work killing NATO and UN soldiers? Old or not, it is still a weapon and deserves the respect that entitles.

  • @Almaril88 Lol if I throw a thousand stones at you, one is probably going to hit you in the head. Compared to even 1960 era weapons the RPG-7 doesn't compare, the hoodgies shoot it at foot soldiers when it doesnt even use fragmentation warheads. The only reason it kills is because they have so many, maybe 1 out of every 100 rockets will kill someone, compared to say a Carl Gustav which is better and will kill almost every rocket.

  • @Breakneckhydra1 i agree on RPG-7, its worthless, but the AK-47 is not, its not wortless when you look at the price of the weapon, and its easy maintiance and the abillity to take heavy beating and still be able to work properly.

  • @millemilow But on the modern battlefeild, it just cant compare. Its a good gun for a GUERRILLA, but not for a SOLIDER. If 100 guerrillas with Ak-47s are put up against 100 soldiers with any modern gun (SIG 556, M16A4, Steyr AUG) the soldiers will win every time. Just because an AK can last longer without being cleaned doesn't make it a better weapon on the battlefield.

  • @Breakneckhydra1 Not necessarily, I'm a veteran of one of America's elite group of Armed Forces and my team and I have been backed down by guerillas. It wasn't until we employed a few of their tactics that we were able to cut them off and disperse them. We were basically able to take them apart individually after that though.

  • @FlemNmzzzz

Were you with the Circus called Sgt Bill Nayer's troupe?

Thats an elite team from what I heard.

  • @SoldatenArvidsjaur23

It's spelled Carl Gustaf, but it's pronounced Carl Gustav.

  • @SoldatenArvidsjaur23

The weapon is not named after the present king Carl XVI Gustav. Rather the name stems from Carl Gustavs Stads Gevärsfaktori ("Rifle Factory of Carl Gustav's town") wich was procured by Bofors. The history behind the name Carl Gustavs Stads (Carl Gustav's town) dates back to 1659 when Carl X Gustav granted the city of Eskilstuna its city rights and ordered the forming of the cities industrial zones.

  • @hemligsson The weapon factory name is Carl GustaFFFFF. Why does everyone forget that.

  • @simon12194

Because that's the old way of saying V in swedish?

  • @VicariousReality7 It's still with F

  • @hemligsson Trodde det var Karlskoga.

  • @SoldatenArvidsjaur23 Almost completely supplied? The M72, FGM-148, BGM-71, SMAW, and FGM-172 are not produced, nor were they designed in Sweden. That was just a short list off the top of my head.

The AT4 and Carl Gustav are excellent weapon systems, but they hardly come close to encompassing the entire anti-tank capability of the U.S. military.

  • @SoldatenArvidsjaur23

No, in1659 when Eskilstuna get their cityrights the plan was to rename the city to Carl Gustafs stad (town) ín tribute to the reigning king Carl X Gustaf. In the town was and still is one of swedens main weapon manufacturer Carl Gustafs stads gevärsfaktori. The name have changed but they still making the AT4. Carl Gustaf submachine gun and Carl gustaf grenade rifle is two other weapons from the factory. The plant in Eskilstuna is going to be moved to Bofors in Karlskoga.

  • well the king can't spell his own name so that's okay :P

  • it's a wwii ram(canadian forerunner of the

sherman) that tank used as target?

  • I spelled it right.

How did you think it was spelled?

  • It is was spelled with a S, you know, Gustav... :p

  • Carl Gutav is the king of my homeland ;)

  • is it spelled Gustav or Gustaf?

  • my too! sweden ftw!!!!

  • yea sweden ftw

  • lol, that's awesome. This looks like the LFCATC Meaford 84mm range...I shot at the same target on my basic. Pretty sure I blew a hole right through the damn thing.

  • yes it does look like horrible shitty terrible meaford

  • at-4 is disposable, M72 LAW - also. The RPG,SMAW,Stinger can be reloaded

  • Can the AT4 be or the dragon, or stingers be reloaded? Or are they just shoot and toss weapons? Anyway that thing looks like it has a lot of kick

  • Carl G is a reusable weapon. Ammo looks like a short tank round and comes in two round magazines. It doesen't actually have much kick, as its pretty heavy. But the shockwave from the round going off is pretty brutal if your not ready for it.

  • they're all disposable.

  • makes the coolest sound

  • Carl-G is a swedish weapon!!

  • what's more effective milan or the carl gustav?

  • Milan; it has a longer range, it's more powerful, and it's guided.

But the Carl-G is still good. It's smaller, ligher and I'll bet a hell of a lot cheaper.

  • Different systems for different tasks/units. We got an equivalent to MILAN here called BILL 2.

  • Depends if you want to take out a $100,000 tank or a $50 bunker. For the many hard stationary targets in Afghanistan, it is clear why the Carl Gustav is becoming popular.

The Canadians have a good system when advancing at night: if they engage a fortified position, they shoot at it with Infra red tracer rounds then up to a mile back a CG team sees the impacts with Night vision goggles and fires where the tracers land.

  • Dosent the 84 also have more rounds to choose from HEAT HEDP etc.

  • Its not a M4 its a RAM and I have hit the same tank at Meaford in 92

  • I did this for 10 months in the Swedish army, great weapon. Requirments in sweden are 6 rounds in 2 standing target at 300meter and 1 moving target (30km/h) 200meters in less than 1 min... Keep practising guys :-)

  • wow so the sweds woud have pawned us (the norwegians) any day, mean we dident do more the n learn how to fier properly and fier some smoke and light granades... you the ones that acctualy made the weapon acctualy know how to operate it =P

  • I was a reloader on this wonderful weapon. We could get four rounds of in 12sec. Taste that :)

  • yay! it's the swedish CG 84mm!

  • That is Meaford , Ontario , Canada. I've hit that tank.

  • Thats our friendly Canadians neighbors right their.

  • Canadian Forces.

  • They wear swedish uniforms

  • i feel very sorry for that M4 tank!

  • Sweden I guess.

  • is this filmed in the us?
