Don't worry, this is during a tour when he played with a different band, his original songs were changed to sound more folky. Bobby Jean sounds exactly the same as it did in the 80's as it does now when he plays it with the E Street Band

This is effectively the same arrangement as the solo acoustic Ghost of Tom Joad tour version (eg on the Berlin Night boot) although that version seems more natural and unforced to me
