I wouldn't be suprised if he got his inspiration from Kraftwerk. He has never shied from saying he's inspired by Brian Wilson, Wallflowers, Talking Heads, classical music, and so on. That's why he was a genius - he never saw boundaries to it like people do ordinarily.
