I would like to give my view that this is the best live recording I have ever heard (outside of classical music) The soundscape and balance of the music have been ideally captured Full credit to whoever was the sound engineer - such an important role Frequently (apart from classical music) live sound is poor and particularly when live music is recorded, as often as not, woeful Perhaps there is simply not the budget or the preparation time in rock/pop etc to attend to recording AND live
Guys relax, it's not as if he's replaced the original. The song's not wrecked, it's just taken to a different place. Bruce is one of the best musicians alive today, his gigs are something else and his variations on the original are keeping him fresh and certainly maintains my interest. If I had to choose I'd opt for the original too, but I love that you never quite know what you're getting from him - one thing for sure, it's always musicianship of the highest order. Enjoy it.
It shouldn't have been turned into a 6/8 poxy jig, it's a beautiful song, with beautiful lyrics. I started enjoying it again when the timing changed back to simple 2/4. 6/8 makes it all uneasy. It's lovely, simple love song, + so much lovelier in 2/4. x
The original of 'I will walk with you' was a beautiful classic. Why you wrecked it now, Bruce, I don't know. Changing the rhythm + genre didn't work, just wrecked my memory of a beautiful melody + a beautiful love I knew 20+ years ago. Ah, rhythm back a bit better now, my heart's bit more at ease. But still not right, still can't relax + enjoy that lovely melody. Why change something that was so beautiful to start with?

@austgyu bruce hasnt retired.....he came out with a new album just this past year and even went on tour to promote it....he's not touring this year because he just doesnt feel like it, but he's still hard at work on other projects.
I totally agree with these posts yearning for Bruce's old sound back. I have his latest album and unfortunately it is very forgetable. There are only two or three tracks you can recoginize the piano on and they are not that good. Bring back the Range!
I have seen him a bunch of times but have never seen this tune done live. This is awesome. I do believe in many ways "the range" sound from his earlier years did change and he needs some of that back.
absolutely agree. i wish he would get back to the spirit he had in the first 4 or 5 albums. the noisemaker stuff isnt for me. id be happy if he would come out and just play the original stuff, in its original form ! when he does play the classics, he twists them all up, the melody changes, and its just not the same. artists are always trying to reinvent the wheel, when usually, the wheel rolls just fine ! still love bruce, always will.
@airdriver I don't think you can really say one era of Bruce is better or worse than another. Its all so diverse yet the quality NEVER suffers (until the album he put out last year and that horrible song "The Low Country.")
I am a huge Bruce fan. I have always loved this song. I love how he changes the arrangements to keep it fresh for him and the audience. A true musical genius. Thanks so much for posting this!

Interesting. I've always loved this song from the album, but I'd never heard a live version of it.

Don't know which I like better: his piano playing or his singing. Together, they are solid gold.

I honestly think Bruce sounded a lot better in his earlier years. After his third album, his musical style changed.

There's no need for Bruce to keep it frsh. The original was the best. I wish he would return to the style of songs that made him popular in the 80's.

Hornsby is a consummate musician. There aren't enough of them getting airplay, more's the pity.
He's has got soul.
