You can breathe with breathing apparatus genius! And no, you have more pressure on the torso because of the larger volume it occupies than the head. The head pressure you feel is when your eustachian tubes collapse, that's why they tell you to swallow or close your nose and breathe out, to reexpand them so that the pressure could be equalized.

Maybe you should read about barotrauma a bit more yourself first too.

Regardless, the sensation of not taking in enough oxygen underwater (due to water pressure causing inability of the chest wall to expand properly) WILL result in the "tightness of chest" feeling! As well as the actual pressure on it! That's one of the many reason associated with deep diving why they actually created atmospheric pressure diving suits!
