@mommaLaughing Not really. They are trained to look at an angle and ahead to maximize their range of vision. Just like driving a car, do you look directly in front of you or ahead a few cars? Same concept. That is also just one aspect of the search, there many different outlets that they utilize in conjunction with ground searches and it's usually a combination of them that lead them to what they are looking for. seems like a lot of those officers were just looking straight ahead...shouldn't they have been looking at the ground for any possible clues/evidence?
